While at home under lockdown it’s a stressful time for us all with what’s going on. From home schooling to adapting to working from home.  Then there’s worrying about our loved ones and wondering when things will get back to some kind of normal. We need things to look forward to. Not only to keep us busy but as a morale booster too. 

Keeping fit, eating well and getting enough sleep all help. That’s obvious. Another activity which can be enjoyed with family or friends through Zoom or FaceTime is creating your favourite hotel bar cocktails from the comfort of your own kitchen. Now is to the time to get creative by using that ouzo and limoncello from the back of the cupboard.  

With lockdown in full swing, we’ve already seen the likes of the quaratinti cocktail come to life from the bottles of liquor from our cupboards. In the spirit of things (not sorry), we’ve decided to give our readers some great cocktail ideas. These are usually enjoyed in the likes our plush hotel bars one of our fantastic last minute breaks.  

As it will be a little while before we’re back enjoying breaks at some of the best UK hotels, take the time to experiment with these hotel style ingenious cocktail ideas from myhotelbreak.  

The Classic Mojito 

Not only being one of the most popular and refreshing cocktails in the UK, it’s super easy to make. Experience a classic hotel style mojito from the comfortable surroundings of your own home.  Moving into the summer months, add a tinge of the Caribbean to your cocktail evening which is great drink. Relax in the garden with family or over social with some friends.  

The ingredients: 

  • 50ml White Rum 
  • Splash of Soda Water 
  • Caster Sugar (2 tablespoons) 
  • Lime (2 wedges) 
  • Crushed Ice 

What you will need: 

  • Tall glass 
  • Large spoon 
  • Knife 
  • Shaker or similar 

Creating the cocktail: 

  • Crush the two wedges of lime with the two tablespoons of caster sugar into a bowl and mix well.  
  • Get 12 mint leaves and place into the bottom of the glass and add the lime and sugar to it. Press down with a spoon. 
  • Add crushed glass to the glass until ¾ full 
  • Pour white rum and soda water into the shaker or a similar type of mixer then pour 
  • Top up with more crushed ice and garnish 
  • Ready to enjoy 

The Blue Lagoon 

As blue as the ocean, this fantastically named and coloured cocktail (not to be confused with the chip shop) will brighten up any lockdown afternoon or evening. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth, this refreshing drink is also easy to make too.  

The ingredients: 

  • Vodka 50ml 
  • Blue Curacao Liqueur 
  • 150ml Lemonade  
  • Lemon Slice 
  • Ice cubes 

What you will need: 

  • Tall glass 
  • Large soon 
  • Shaker or equivalent 
  • Knife 

Creating the cocktail: 

  • Fill glass with ice and leave room to stir 
  • Add vodka and lemonade to a shaker or similar and mix. Then pour into glass 
  • Gently pour Blue Curacao into the glass and see it transform into the colour blue 
  • Insert lemon into glass 
  • Enjoy 

Harvey Wallbanger Cocktail 

Another great cocktail you’ll see in many of our hotel bars. This is the Harvey Wallbanger. This classic gives a citrusy taste with orange tangy flavour with a hit of vodka added to the mix. A cocktail that can be created without much fuss. 

The Ingredients: 

  • Vodka 50ml 
  • Orange Juice 50ml 
  • Vanilla Liqueur 50ml 
  • Orange slice 
  • Ice cube 

What you will need 

  • Spoon 
  • Knife 
  • Shaker 
  • Shaker or equivalent 

How to make the cocktail 

  • Fill the glass with ice but leave enough room to stir 
  • Pour vodka, orange juice and the vanilla liqueur into the glass and stir. You can use a shaker then pour if you wish 
  • Top with orange slice 
  • Kick back and enjoy 

Pimms and Lemonade Cocktail 

The quintessential British cocktail. This traditional cocktail is favoured by us Brits up and down the country. Millions of us enjoy this tipple on our balcony’s or back garden during the summer months of every year. This is the perfect when barbecuing. It really goes with anything in fact. Its fruity punch is memorable and delightful at the same time. The ultimate summer cocktail.   

The Ingredients: 

  • Pimms 50ml 
  • Lemonade 150ml 
  • Cucumber and lemon slices (one of each) 
  • 1 Strawberry 
  • One Mint Spig 
  • Ice 

What you will need: 

  • Tall glass 
  • Knife 
  • Large spoon 
  • Shaker or equivalent 

Creating the cocktail: 

  • Fill the glass with ice but leave room to stir 
  • Pour the lemonade and Pimms into a glass and mix well or use shaker then pour 
  • Slice the fruit into the measures recommended, add to glass and then mix. 
  • Garnish with the mint  
  • Enjoy 

Limoncello 

The Limoncello cocktail finishes our round up of great hotel style cocktails you can make simply and easily from your own home bar or kitchen. The Italian liqueur can be mixed with either gin or vodka. Depending on your preference. Another cocktail that is simple to make and in quick time too.

  • 50ml Limoncello 
  • Vodka/Gin 
  • 150 Soda/Tonic 
  • Fresh Lemon Slice 
  • Ice cubes 

What you will need 

  • Tall glass

  • Shaker or equivalent 

Creating the cocktail: 

  • Mix the vodka/gin with the limoncello in the shaker then pour into a glass with ice 
  • Top up with soda
