We took a visit to Norton House Hotel

Published by Mark Simpson

Friday night saw some of our team make a visit to the Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh. The hotel kindly invited us to experience everything they have to offer – and we were not disappointed!

From arrival at the hotel it was apparent that this was not your average 4-star accommodation. Check-in at the hotel was painless and we were all lucky enough to be given our own rooms, which was a luxury. I was fortunate enough to be allocated the Ratho Room, which I can only describe as amazing. This room is spread out over 2 floors. When you enter on the first floor you have access to the first bathroom (with a TV), the Super King-size Bed, flat screen TV, seating area and large sliding doors leading to your private balcony! Upstairs you find a living area with flat screen TV and another large shower room – the perfect space, especially for families!

We were shown around the hotel and all of the rooms are of a very high standard with lots of options on different room types – from traditional rooms in the main building to more modern rooms in the newer part of the hotel.

The evening meal was also first class. We ate in the Bistro where I ordered the Salmon for starters, Sirloin Steak for main and Sticky Toffee pudding for desert (this is pretty much my standard meal when i am out – creature of habit I suppose). Each course was very enjoyable and portion sizes were perfect. There were eight of us in total with a various selection on meals which everyone enjoyed. The wine was also very enjoyable as it seemed to go down far too easily!

For those who prefer the finer things in life they also have the Ushers Restaurant which has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes for its food.

The next morning it was time to shake the hangover off and enjoy breakfast. Everything was available as you would expect, from continental breakfast including pastries, cereals and bread to a full cooked buffet breakfast. You could also order your cooked breakfast which I thought was a good option. Obviously my 3-course meal (and complimentary cup-cake I devoured the night before) were not substantial enough as I managed to help myself to a 3-course breakfast, which was just what the doctor ordered.

Saturday proved to be an unusually nice day (albeit very cold) which you can see from that private balcony of mine 🙂

The room faced on to the back of the hotel and the building you can see in the background is conference centre and the spa facilities. I did not have the time to use the leisure the next day as I had to get home. However my colleagues Pamela and Anne-Marie used the facilities which they really enjoyed!

To summarise this stay in two words would be – simply outstanding. We could not fault anything. The rooms, restaurant, staff and facilities are all first class and would highly recommend to anyone looking to visit the Edinburgh area, or just looking for a night or two away! I would also like to say a special thanks to Janette and Senga for their hospitality throughout the evening.
