Things to see & do in Irvine
Irvine was made a Royal Burgh in 1372 by Robert II and was a major West of Scotland seaport. In the 18th century, it was the largest burgh in Ayrshire. Irvine is now a busy town with important historical and maritime connections. It is now the main site of the Scottish Maritime Museum.
This town like most of Ayrshire has links to Robert Burns with an active Burns Club (the oldest in Scotland) and he worked here in a 'heckling shed' in 1781-82.
