Strathpeffer is an old Victorian spa town surrounded by wooded hills four miles west of Dingwall on the Black Isle.
Strathpeffer is overlooked by the bleak Ben Wyvis, and so is also a popular base for walkers.
For the less energetic the Highland Museum of Childhood, located at the restored Victorian train station is worth a visit. The museum looks at how life was like growing up in the Highlands.
