Things to see & do in Stansted

Stanstead is best known for its airport however this small town owes its earlier importance to a castle built here by the Mountfitchet family. The extensive earthworks are now home to the world´s only reconstructed motte and bailey castle. The main part of the town is grouped along a hill. The town has an 18th century windmill. There is a Farmers' Market at nearby Ugley on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

Adjacent to the historic castle is The House on the Hill Toy Museum - Offers a nostalgic trip back to childhood with many animated displays. Largest privately-owned toy museumin the world with over 70,000 exhibits. Within the museum is a collector shop which buys and sells old toys and a comprehensive collection of vintage slot machines. New displays of entertainment memorabilia. Tommy Steele's jukebox, Roy Orbison's watch, Elton John's money box and autographs.
