The Haughton Arms Hotel in Alford has a rich history dating back to the 1820s, when it was originally established as the Station Hotel. Renamed the Haughton Arms in 1871, it was the first major building in the area, helping to stimulate the early growth of the village. Since then, the hotel has evolved under its current ownership into the welcoming and well-appointed venue it is today, earning a strong reputation for excellent food and friendly, attentive service.

Located in the heart of Aberdeenshire, the hotel is ideally placed for exploring the area’s many attractions. The Alford Valley Railway, Grampian Transport Museum, Alford Heritage Centre, and Craigievar Castle are just some of the most popular nearby sites. Other historic landmarks, such as ancient stone circles and castles including Balfluig Castle, Castle Fraser, and Drum Castle, are all easily accessible by road.

Directions to the Haughton Arms Hotel in Alford

From Edinburgh (2 ½–3 hrs drive)

  • Start on the A1 or M8 out of Edinburgh heading east/northeast.
  • Continue on the M8 toward Glasgow, then branch onto the M73/M74 northeast (signs for Glasgow Airport/Rutherglen).
  • Join the M80/M9 northeast toward Stirling/Dunblane.
  • Near Stirling, take the M9 → A9 toward Perth/Inverness.
  • Bypass Perth on the A9, then transition onto the A90 toward Dundee/Peterhead.
  • Stay on the A90 past Dundee, heading north toward Aberdeen.
  • Just before Aberdeen, take the exit onto the A944 toward Alford/Mid‑Deeside.
  • Follow the A944 west for ~25 miles (40 km) to reach Alford.
  • In Alford, go straight onto Main Street—the hotel is located centrally at Main Street, AB33 8WA, next to shops and overlooking the village street

Via Public Transport
You can take a train or coach to Aberdeen, then local bus service 18 or 20 to Alford – the hotel is just a short walk from the bus stop

By air: Fly into Aberdeen Airport (ABZ), then drive or take bus/taxi on the A944 west to Alford (35 km).
