RSPB Muirhead
A Reserve of farmland, wet meadows, salt marshes and mudflats. An Important wintering wildfowl area indulging Barnacle Geese, Pink-footed Geese, Widgeon and Pintail.
Spring is also particularly magical when the wet meadows fill with Lapwings and Skylarks as well as butterflies and wildflowers.
The Galloway Red Kite Trail is an opportunity to view red kites around Loch Ken. The Trail is an anti-clockwise route which is 24 miles around the Loch. There are six outdoor viewing points, nine walks, four hides and a feeding station.
WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre / Nature Reserve
A 1400-acre wild reserve on the Solway Coast. Wintering Birds include thousands of Svalbard Barnacle Geese and Whooper Swans. Summer months have visiting Ospreys.
