Things to see and do whislt staying at the Holiday Inn High Wycombe

Hughenden Manor, a Victorian mansion four miles from the hotel, was the former home of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. The wide-open grounds are a great place for a picnic, and the manor's interior houses Disraeli's extensive library. History buffs will enjoy the daily tours recounting the building's past as a secret RAF base during World War II.

Explore the spooky Hellfire Caves, a twisty network of underground passages and chambers originally created for mining, 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The infamous Hellfire Club, a group of influential 18th-century personages led by Francis Dashwood, would meet here for their hedonistic rituals and banquets. Beware – the caves are said to have their own resident ghosts.

Great Missenden, half an hour from the hotel, was children's novelist Roald Dahl's home for more than 30 years, and it now houses the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. Dahl wrote his immensely popular stories in a shed at the bottom of his garden, and the interior of his Writing Hut is on display here, alongside letters, photographs and interactive galleries.

The Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is on the hotel's doorstep. Henley-on-Thames, 25 minutes away, is one of several historic towns in the area, and home to the annual Royal Regatta and an interesting River & Rowing Museum. You can enjoy peaceful riverside walks, boutique shops and elegant dining options. On a sunny day, hiring a boat for a few hours is a fun activity.
