Elmbank Hotel & Lodge, York

We had a time at the Elmbank Hotel. The interior of the hotel is absolutely stunning and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the hotel and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend this hotel if visiting York.

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Elmbank. The hotel has limited free parking …we were advised by reception to book the parking at a nearby private school (£18 for 24 hours). On arrival for Afternoon Tea we were ushered into a small bar area where the tea was served. Other guests where using the bar area for drinking. We were the only people having afternoon tea . It seemed we had been “shoved in the bar” at the last minute. On going to our room which was in completely separate building (Elmbank Lodge) across the road from the main hotel. The decor and appearance of this building is not to the same standard as the main hotel. Our room (271)was in the basement. Immediately outside our window was a large industrial air conditioning unit which supplied the whole building. The noise from the machine was such that we felt we would not sleep. I enquired at the reception to see if any other rooms were available, which they’re were none available. On returning to our room later that night the noise from the machine was a constant whirring noise. I went to reception to complain and was told there were no other rooms available. I was informed that in the morning the hotel may give a refund if we didn’t sleep well. Our nights sleep was horrible…the constant whirring from the machine prevented us from sleeping well. At 1.30am we seriously considered checking out. In the morning I complained and received a 50% reduction on the bill. The hotel clearly know that room 271 has the industrial plant outside and that the majority of guests staying in that room will not sleep…. Why is the room still being let to guests ?? On a positive note …the main hotel is very well decorated and pleasant. All of the staff that dealt with us were very professional and listened to our concerns and we’re very accommodating. The breakfast was very good with a good selection of cereals, fruit, continental cheese and meats, and a full range of cooked items available for order. We would go back to the Elmbank providing we were in the main hotel complex and not in the Lodge area The hotel is well situated near the City centre and in the main bus route into the city centre.

Great hotel and lovely staff, the afternoon tea and breakfast included with the booking is delicious and a great price! This was our 3rd stay great for Christmas market 20 min walk into York.

Fabulous hotel within easy walking distance to York city centre. Service was fast and friendly, food was excellent and well presented. Plenty of choice to cater for all tastes. The room was spacious enough with a very comfortable king size bed. We would definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to York and have recommended to friends and family.

The hotel was lovely and the afternoon tea was nice. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room was great, decorated lovely and a nice size. The only issue we had was the noise. It sounded like someone had left a fan on in a bathrom somewhere, and it was just a constant noise. It was also quite noisy with doors shutting and banging. We would definitely stay again. We'd just request a different room next time ?

Lovely hotel the room was really nice .. the only complaint I have is that we booked this with the meal offer included. I asked the waiter which meals were included to be told everything except drinks at the end of the meal we was given a bill for £30 saying that the meals we had weren’t covered by what we had already paid .. I once again questioned it to be told well that’s just the way it is

Lovely grand hotel,with lots of period features. Nice size room with large shower. Service in restaurant was a bit slow, but food was delicious so worth the wait. Ideally situated for York races.

First time here wasn't disappointed, we were checked in easily and paid for parking the staff were lovely.Sent yo 313 not the biggest but nipping clean a smashing bathroom and a tea tray. Meals were b&b and evening meal included in our price. Meals were very nice though some things were not available on both evenings. Breakfast was fine we had a full Yorkshire,apple juice but only 1 slice of toast and 1 jam and or marmalade each...good pot of tea though.... The walk into town is 15-20 minutes passing a few little book shops, pubs and restaurants, a nice walk... The building itself is beautiful inside all wood and lovely windows and lighting the outside dosnt do it justice. All in all a good stay and would return ...

On arrival the price of the stay was disclosed to my partner, this was a surprise Birthday of which the hotel were aware because I asked for the birthday package which for the price was not worth it, 4 crap balloons and a daft banner which seemed to be used before. The room wasn’t the cleanest the window ledge was dirty with dead flies, sanitary wrappers on the toilet floor, lamp beside the bed not working and the socket was very loose. Went for dinner as part of the package, the waiter unfortunately suffering from bad body odour, there was numerous wasps in the room and it was apparent we were moved into a different room due to a booking, as part of the package it was £27per person towards the dinner which would have brilliant if it was not overpriced main meals alone were a minimum £24. I paid for the additional items in the restaurant then went to York centre for the night. Breakfast was also part of the deal however again wasps in the room and both my partner and I ordered full cooked breakfast with poached eggs. There was only one slice of toast each, the bacon was rubber (clearly cooked some time before serving), the eggs were under cooked and the beans were cold. Had to ask for refills on the apple juice. On checking out I was requested to again pay for extra items at the dinner and only on the management seeing my bank statement was it accepted that I had paid for it. Overall disappointed as this was ment to be a surprise relaxing time for my partners 30th birthday which it wasn’t.

We had an excellent time at the beautiful Elmbank Hotel. An easy walk into York. The hotel has have been very respectfully renovated. The food was amazing - very large portions! Staff were friendly. Cannot fault it.

Lovely place in the main hotel but the lodge room we had was a bit rough. Really needed painting, toilet flush not fully working and a few other bits but nice spot for a York stay.
