This hotel is in great need of refurbishment. In its heyday it would have been beautiful I can imagine. Having booked a two-night package with dinner on the arrival night, we were pleased not to have booked dinner bed & breakfast for both nights. While the breakfast was just acceptable the evening dinner was dreadful. The menu we had the choice from was inferior and the standard of the food presented was basic. They cater for bus parties and it seemed we were offered the same menu.

Hotel location and experience was excellent. . Had a free upgrade to a Superior Double Room. Many thanks to the staff. Very clean and also very pleasant staff. Food was top notch for me and my wife. Room had slightly outdated furniture but overall really can't complain. Close to all amenities.

Having used this hotel on numerous occasions and having paid a premium for a sea view room, I was a bit disappointed with our room or to be precise the ensuite. The toilet itself was under the outside stairs going up to the next floor so you banged your head on the wall when you used it, I have paid less and had a better room even though there was no sea view, on the plus side the room was clean, the evening meal was as good as I remember and the breakfast was really good and plenty of it, the staff were extremely pleasant. I will go back to this hotel as one not so good experience won't put me off.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Had a nice sea view twin room on the 2nd floor with a great view of the bay. The staff were friendly and dinner in the sea view restaurant was great. It’s a lovely old grand hotel and with a bit of refurbishing could be spectacular!

Our room had great sea views, room was clean and very spacious however in need of some upgrading windows especially as we could hear everyone in the street going home late at night in early hours of morning. Shower in the room had no pressure so not great for someone with long thick hair to wash. Hotel itself is a beautiful grand building but sadly let down by decor and dated furnishings. Breakfast at the hotel was ok however dinner was most probably the worst we have ever had we were given a reasonable menu to make our choices from and were then told that wasn’t the right menu and given another menu, choices on this were poor which left us leaving the restaurant gry and dissatisfied. Staffing was short and those who were there were very tired and vocal about needing their own upcoming break.

Parking was a shambles. We were given a spot and told to put a cone there when we went out which we did. When we came back someone was in our spot. We were told to move a cone and take someone else's spot. We were also overcharged on drinks. When buying a round we were charged the same as the previous drink despite being 1 drink less. He was charging me for 1/2 pint of lemonade despite it being barely 1/4 pint as a mixer and was not backing down.

Disappointed, as this hotel now caters for dog owners. There were at least 6 or more during our stay. I am jot anti dog, but, there was definitely a smell of dog in the lounge. Food mediocre, service just OK.

The staff were very good, helpful and friendly. However, it’s clearly obvious that the hotel is let down with lack of money being invested into its maintenance. There were many patches of dampness around ceiling areas and high level coving designs. The sash and case windows are in poor state of disrepair and extremely heavy and awkward to open for some fresh air. The curtains in our room, insufficient in keeping out the morning light, The hotel desperately needs money spending on it

Spent a weekend at The Great Western Hotel Oban when all roads in and out were closed due to extreme weather conditions. The hotel itself is tired but adequate and the view out to the bay from our window was great. Our thanks to Melinda at reception who promised to help as much as she could when we were unsure if we could get home which fortunately we were able to go after some uncertainty.

Hotel in need of some TLC but that aside, it was clean, comfortable and suited our needs. The staff were amazing. The Receptionist and Manager were so friendly, welcoming and very helpful. For that alone we would definitely book again.

Excellent location , very friendly staff . Our room was lovely (29) twin with a sea view . The room was spacious and very cozy with all essentials supplied (tea/coffee/sugar/milk ) and even a small packet of biscuits each . Very much appreciated The breakfast was beautiful, scrambled eggs were exceptional. The 3 course dinner was also very nice .

We enjoyed our stay - spacious room, friendly staff and a really good value DBB deal. We will stay again. Some thoughts perhaps we should have communicated to the hotel direct: Suitcase stand(s) in the room would have been useful TV for background music with adverts during dinner was irritating Lamp on desk/dressing table needed Glasses, even plastic, should be provided in the room

Was in a superior room. Good size with great views over the bay. Comfortable bed and pillows. Buffet style self service at breakfast. Sufficient tasty warm food from bain marie's. Evening meals were not the best we have had. Quality seems to have slipped from the many previous visits we have had here. No entertainment on the friday night we arrived. Saturday entertainment I felt was very good in the shape of a guitarist/singer Basil Forsgrieve. Feel that the option offered by Myhotelbreak of meal only on first night is not value for money. Other companies appear to offer meals on all nights of their weekend breaks !? and on cheaper tariffs. How come??

The staff at the hotel made ourselves and our dog feel very welcome, the room was good apart from the carpet which needs a good clean,as it is a pet friendly room we get charged £10. per pet per night so that the room gets a deep clean after each visit, unfortunately they have missed room 23, we will go back again as the staff made our weekend.

We had a fabulous time in Oban given the rough weather that was forecast, hotel on arrival was met with very pleasant and polite staff who explained everything. Alas as we entered the room we were kind of disappointed...so where do i start... the fact that it is an old building i can understand some issues like creaky floors in the corridors and sloping floors in the room (poor attempt to right this with beer mats under the bedside cabinet). The roller blind in the bathroom was missing its chord which was lying on the window sill so i had to pull it down manually at night but could not put it back, the mat to stand on in the shower was mouldy, as for the windows (old sash and case) in need of a little TLC as because of the wind Friday night it was impossible to sleep with the wind howling through a gap somewhere. So an early hours investigation found that the glass on the top half of the window did not bed into the frame which left a gap of 5mm (toilet roll to the rescue and jammed it in the gap). As for the shower we did not use it (washed at the sink) as when running the shower i noticed the tray was filling up and almost to the point of overflowing as the water wasn't draining quick enough...so that was abandoned. I did not complain to staff about any issues as we thought due to the hotel being busy we would probably have been landed with a room at the back somewhere. As for the meals i cannot fault them, breakfast (self service) but ample choice of hot or cold food, dinner we did not like the menu on arrival so staff re-arranged for us to have the dinner on the second night...on the second night we were informed that the menu had not been changed on the first night (sigh) and left us with the predicament of the night before....but staff let us order from the a la carte menu to the cost of included dinner and any difference would be settled on departure (thanks for that)....so once again apart from the little issues encountered we had a lovely time and took some good photos of the area.

Hotel needs a desperate make over. Dampness everywhere. Carpets a total disgrace. This Hotel should never be open to the public to book. If this is the standard of hotels you want to advertise then I certainly won't be booking with My hotel breaks again. It was only because we were given a hotel voucher that we booked through this company. Over priced accommodation
