Excellent hotel, brilliant staff in all areas, bar, housekeeping and restaurant. Very enjoyable 2 night stay. I had the very special "music/film" inspired room which was very funky.

Hubby and I stayed on 1st Jan on DBB basis and found this to be excellent value. Evening meal and breakfast were amazing and hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. We have stayed at the Caledonian on a number of occasions now and this is why we return. We willl definitely be back.

Very pleasant stay here. Hotel very busy over weekend but the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was buffet with a good selection of hot and cold items. The young chap who served us our coffee was chatty which was nice. Our room had had a partial refurb with nice carpets and bedding only downside the shower screen did not seal well and the floor got soaked which is a shame as it looked as if it was new flooring.

Lovely room, grate meals (evening and breakfast), but arrangements for guest drinks after closing time poor. We arrived back at the hotel at around 10:10. Waited at one bar, but were then told after 10 minutes that that particular bar was closed - bar staff had walked past us on numerous occasions. We went to the other bar only to be told it too was closed......... Fortunately one member of staff identified us as guests and so we were served.

Had a great time at the Caledonian. Excellent food at a great price. A couple of points docked for service due to the hotel's policy of only offering a very restricted range of drinks after 10:30 bar closure.

Our room was very comfortable. The furniture and bathroom were tired and in need of refurbishing. The dinner we had was very tasty and filling and the young waitress who served us was lovely and very attentive but unfortunately the dining area was situated in the public bar. Not a suitable area at all. Very noisy and we were surrounded by young students who were loud. The breakfast left much to be desired. The staff were totally unprepared. They ran out of plates and when they did come they were cold. They ran out of sausage, fried eggs and bread. The rest of the hot buffet was luke warm. By the time the bread came for the toast the food on my plate was cold. I asked if it would be possible to have a poached egg but was told the chef couldn’t do them!! On the second evening we were put in a corner of the so called dining room which was full of the public watching rugby and football. We couldn’t hear one another talking. Most unacceptable. The following morning we were offered a table which hadn’t been cleared or cleaned and when I requested that the waitress cleaned it she put our clean cutlery on the seats that everyone had been sitting on. At this stage I requested to speak to the manager. This is not a suitable hotel for your special offers. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here

I phoned the hotel before arrival to enquire about hair dryers in bedrooms and was told all rooms have one. The hairdryer in our room was not working, we report it but nothing was done and I had not taken one with me. Dinner menu provided on menu was not what was offered.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Situated in a lovely suburb of Newcastle, with local shops and restaurants. Room was very spacious and clean and had a good sleep even though it was on a main road, very little traffic through the night. Had 3 course dinner on 1 of the nights, which was good. Would recommend, staff great too.

What amazing value! The hotel is in a great location, a 8 min walk from West Jesmond Metro stop. It is in a great area with loads of shops, cafes and restaurants. The hotel its self has well appointed rooms, very clean and with good amenities. The customer service at check in and from the reception staff later was spot on. Top mention to the young chap (maybe Owen/Oli) who helped me with an emergency hair dryer situation. Really guest focused and welcoming, cant wait to return later in the year.

Hotel lovely staff friendly However, restaurant totally lets hotel down we booked a table at 8 waited about 10 mins to be seated. There was only myself and partner and one other person in restaurant We then waited a further 10 mins for order to be taken. Both my partner and I order prawn tail for starters 30 minutes no starters we addressed this with manageress who was lovely and give us complimentary drink 40 mins from ordering … we were told kitchen had ran out of lettuce and had to go to local shop for them . The desert menu consisted of 5 deserts … chocolate ge cake -which there was non of crumble and custard , pie and custard and a sponge and custard …. We were then advised no custard . Again we addressed our concerns with the manageress and she apologised and offered Ice cream alternative after waiting again about 15 mins the what appeared to be chef walked through restaurant with cartons of custard from again the shop

We stayed at the Newcastle Caledonian for 3 nights in January 2023.We had a great time. The room was spacious, clean with a six-foot bed. The food was good and the there is a lively atmosphere in the bar which was refurbished a couple of years ago. Of course, with this being Newcastle you could not meet a nicer, more helpful staff. Officially a 3-star hotel it is better than many 4-star hotels we have stayed at. The transport links are great for both buses and the Metro. Jesmond Dene is only five minutes’ walk away.

Excellent stay. Room was clean, comfortable with a TV, ironing board and iron, tea/coffee making facilities. 3 course meal with wine was included in the deal and also lovely. Breakfast was included however the bed was too comfy to get out if so we missed it. Would definitely return. Excellent value for money.

Hotel was perfect in every way however the room we were given was unfortunately above the “party suite” which meant any plans of a decent nights sleep were thrown out the window and we had to stay up later than we had wanted and made our shopping day the next day a bit more tiring. Purely rated the room a 7 for this reason only.

When we arrived we were unable to find the carpark, so tried to call to find out where it was but noone one answered. We parked up and when I got into reception the receptionist was on the phone for about 15 mins taking a booking and noone else was around. I did notice then it looked extremely busy and noisey even in reception. When she came off the phone she said the carpark was full and we would have to park in the British Legion car park about 10 mins walk away. Our table for dinner, that we had reserved was in the main bar area where at the time was full of noisey football fans because of the England game being on. There was no quiet area and we were surrounded by noise and Tvs with the game on. I asked if there was another dining area but I was told no and were offered to dine in the bedroom!! Given there was no table in the bedroom I declined. We were then given a bottle of wine, unopened, with no glasses and had to then go to the bar and wait and ask for wine glasses. The tikka massala I ordered was more like a vindaloo and therefore could not eat it. We were not offered the dessert menu and felt the staff were so busy with the football fans they forgot about the customers who were actually staying in their hotel. We obviously picked a bad weekend to stay with the football but feel the dining area could have been in a quieter pary of the hotel with the crowd kept separate. It was so noisey we could not even have a conversation.
