We had a lovely two night break staying in a mews cottage this was a lovely big room with its own fenced in patio area. There was plenty of choice on the hospitality tray the bed was lovely and comfortable. We arrived an hour before check in time and took advantage of the Sunday car very which was really good, breakfast is served to the table which makes a lovely change from buffet style plus there is continental if you want. This hotel has a wide range of menus for lunch and evening meals. The bar has a lovely atmosphere with both guests & locals it is well stocked and has two roaring fires.

This was our second stay at the George. We were spoilt last year as we upgraded to the best room in the hotel, this time the room was not the best as we were placed in the Mews (We will not make that mistake again). However, at £135 for 3 nights B&B for two it would have been churlish to complain. Last year we gave the room 10/10. The hotel has a good atmosphere, reasonable drink/food prices and friendly staff. The location is good as we walked some of the Tees way and used the X76/75 Barnard Castle to Darlington bus service which is very handy. Overall a good time at a budget price,

Another fabulous stay. Our room was out in the annex, 212. Lovely room, little bit of noise from the door as it seemed to rattle when anyone close opened their doors. Warm welcome, staff very pleasant and would do anything to help. Breakfast great the 1st morning, although less continental than we had on previous stays, 2nd morning staff seemed to be a little disorganised & flustered, 3rd morning breakfast was a help yourself buffet as the hotel was full. All things considered this was our 3rd stay at the hotel & we would def return.

Quirky room, number 7 I think it was, high up in the eaves. Warm welcome, friendly staff & a great cooked to order breakfast the next morning. Only difference being to the last time we stayed was that there was a surcharge for eggs Benedict on the breakfast menu.

We have stayed here so many times over the years abit unfortunate our last experience but only due to one member of staff, its been two years so decided to vist again as a treat for my birthday so glad we did all staff were very welcoming and helpful. Good breakfast in the morning, could do with a bit more varied and exciting menu at night but guessing most people might not be up for that. prices good for bed and breakfast in nice clean rooms and if you time your vist just right there might be a tribute band or other fayre on wedding or Xmas will definitely be back for another vist soon

Just had another 3 night break at the George Hotel. The room was large and very clean with a view in to the garden, the bed was lovely and comfortable. The staff were all pleasant and very professional & they couldn't have been anymore accommodating. The food was lovely with a varied menu the breakfast was waitress service which makes a nice change and there was a well stocked bar. In fact we have booked up to go back in November.

Hotel a bit tired...but set in a lovely position on the river tees. Bedroom was massive. Staff were all lovely. Easy access to places to visit. Food was ok but there is a lot of new staff, so sometimes they struggled when they were busy. We would definately go back as we really enjoyed it thank you

Paid £150 for 3 night August staycation and what a bargain it was. 15th century coaching inn so full of character. Our bedroom was in a separate block and was absolutely fine. Toiletries, iron and ironing board included as well as a fan as no air con. Breakfast choice very good. Disappointed in evening meal but this may have just what we chose. Staff very nice. Would definitely return.

The first thing to mention about the hotel is that it's not in Darlington, it's in the remote village of Piecebridge. Cirstances meant that we had to vacate our large comfortable original room and we were moved into the fabulous stand alone Cottage. The hotel itself is very welcoming with a really nice bar/dining area. The breakfast/dining area is at the rear with wonderful views of the bridge and river. The food was very good, big portions and value for money. For two mornings we were served an excellent breakfast at the table ?, the last morning was buffet style which was ok but preferred the table service. The staff throughout our stay were excellent, very friendly and helpful. We spoke to the new manager who has big ideas to put the George back where it belongs. We had never been to this neck of the woods before and really enjoyed discovering the towns and villages in the area. We would love to return one day and make the George our first stop. We would recommend anyone looking for a break to book this hotel.

Staff very friendly and very busy. Great location for sightseeing and lovely outside gardens beside the river. Hotel surprisingly large and well frequented by locals. Not keen on dogs in bar area where food being served and occasionally seen to be on seating.

We spent 2 nights in this charming hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. On arrival we were greeted by friendly helpful staff. Our room was amazing (we had done an upgrade but this room surpassed our expectations. It was an amazing, spacious room, nicely decorated, with comfortable furniture large comfortable, bed and bath and shower cubicle in beautiful bathroom. The hotel overlooks the River Tees and the setting is fantastic with plenty of outside furniture for dry days. The hotel has so much history attached and we spent first night reading up on it. Next morning we were welcomed into the dining room for breakfast by Karin and we are sure we wouldn’t have received better service at the Ritz. The choices on the menu ensures that everyone is well catered for and the food was was delicious and plentiful. We ate in the hotel that night joined by two friends who lived local. Again we received warm friendly welcome with good service and good food. We will definitely return when next visiting our friends in the area.

Having read some of the reviews we didn't know what to expect. We arrived with our little pooch and were shown to a lovely large bedroom with a revamped bathroom. We were greeted by Mark who helped us upstairs with our luggage. We had a meal in the bar which was soon delivered to our table and enjoyed. Breakfast was delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. To sum up, we had a great stay at The George and would return when the opportunity arises.

We enjoyed our stay at the George Hotel. The management & staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful as nothing seemed to be a problem. Our room was large and the bed was lovely and comfortable there was tea/coffee making facilities with a fine selection too choose from and complementary biscuits. The evening meals were served in the bar/restaurant there was a goog choice of starters, mains & desserts with the portions being on the large side.In the bar there was a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and tails. Breakfast was served in the dining room overlooking the river with cold and a good selection of hot food all oven by Karin when we stayed. Outside there were terraces with tables and chairs and a beer garden by the river
