My partner and I on arrival at this hotel immediately thought on arrival at the hotel that it was very tired looking. There was carpet on the lower half of the walls which was frayed aye the edges and very worn. The receptionist advised that we would be having dinner at their sister hotel as the Esplanade was quiet. This was perfectly acceptable to us as we planned to go out a walk. Our bedroom in keeping with the rest of the hotel was tired and dated. The sheets and towels were clean but there was mould on the bottom of the shower curtain and on the tiles over the bath. The only thing in its favour was the fabulous view. We attended The Argyle Hitel for dinner as planned at 7.30pm. We were shown into a dining room which we later found out was the Clyde suite which was around 25% full. We sat there for 20 minutes, no one approached us and there was no staff present to take orders. My partner finally found someone only to be told we had been shown to the wrong restaurant. We therefore were shown to the Rio restaurant. After a wait we placed our order. From arrival at the hotel to our starter being served we had been at the hotel for 50 minutes. The garlic mushrooms were over done and the bruschetta was soggy bread. I had pasta with chicken and king prawns and my partner ordered sea bass. The sea bass arrived raw and still cold! We complained and the waiter offered to replace it which my partner declined. The manager appeared to apologise only to amazingly inform us that he had not wanted to take our booking but “ he was forced into it” On check out the following morning we related our dining experience to the manager who offered a bottle of wine as compensation which we found insulting We would not ever stay here again We have used my hotel break several times but do not believe this hotel is worthy of being sold on their website Very very disappointing

For the second year, Suzy and her team gave us an excellent New Year (and Birthday!) break. Everything was absolutely fantastic. Stunning firework display too! Service, food, room and entertainment was second to none. Beautiful views from the hotel, with spectacular sunrise and sunsets. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

This hotel does not look too good as you approach it but once inside it is lovely. We had booked a sea view room for New Year and it was lovely. Spacious, clean and comfortable. I thought the food was very good although my partner said the mac and cheese was terrible. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. We felt that breakfast was geared up to suit the coach party that were in. I mean really, who wants to get up for an 8am breakfast at New Year, or indeed, on any holiday. Hogmany entertainment was a good piper and dancer, but mainly a disco with what we could only describe as the worst dj in the world with a weird taste in music and a dreadful sound system. Not at all suitable for a predominantly over 60 age group. That was the low point of the weekend. A high point was Cambell, who I think was the handyman, put on a fabulous firework display. All in all a really enjoyable weekend (except for the dj) and we would certainly return to the Esplanade.

Room fine, though bathroom requires updating and double glazing needs renewed. Dinner was just passable,I’m glad we only had one night eating there, breakfast choice very dated and limited. Wouldn’t make you get out of bed early for unfortunately. Staff when we saw were pleasant, hotel being run on skeleton staff who multi task. The pictures of hotel gardens must be old as even its run down looking. Sad because it could be a good base, no where comfy or nice to relax. Fortunately we were on a cheap deal and didn’t expect too much .

Hotel was quiet , we arrived got our room , went in and it was so small with view of car park, I asked if we could move room staff said they would see if any were ready, so we came back a few hour later and we were given a room with a view out to the seafront it was a brilliant view, food was good and prices were cheaper than some of the local bars, all in all a good hotel nothing fancy but worth the cost, all the staff were friendly and helpful so we had no complaints.

Hotel very tired and in need of much upgrading. Room and bathroom were small. Breakfast was OK but evening meal was dreadful. Poor choice for all courses. Much of a make the best of what on chef menu or do without. Staff were pleasant but young and lacked experience and leadership. The Hotel is situated with beach view when sitting out in garden and easy walking distance to town. We enjoyed our break in Dunoon but unfortunately would not return to The Esplanade Hotel.

Just spent a lovely few days at this hotel with my husband. The staff were lovely, the room was clean & beds comfortable. The choice for breakfast was very good & tasty, although we only had dinner on one night in the hotel, it wasn’t because we were unhappy, we were just out & about. The night we had our meal it was very tasty, well presented & and very good portions. My hubby was a bit disappointed that the bar was shut when we came in one night at 10.15pm, he fancied a little shandy ?. Would definitely come back again, the garden & views are fabulous, although the paintwork could do with a fresh coat.

This hotel has a fantastic location, however there is need for some refurbishment, it’s starting to look tired , it would be an even better place with some money spent on it , but food is still top class , and staff are all nice .

The rooms we were first offered seemed small. I requested an upgrade and the staff Sandy and Sonia were very helpful. We got a triple sea view room, which was much bigger. We were also advised on arrival that the chef was on training on the Wednesday evening and we had to dine out in the sister Hotel, The Argyle. We had to pay for a return taxi, more expense. On the second night ody informed us that we had to yet again dine at the Argyle Hotel. I complained to the barman who quickly advised management. We got the taxi fare and 3 complimentary Prosecco drinks for the inconvenience. Although the staff were very helpful, the communication could have been better, The Hotel was empty both nights at the Esplanade

We felt that this hotel is geared towards coach parties, you had to be down for dinner at 7pm and down for breakfast at 8am, the perception given is this is to suit the coach parties. There is only one set menu for dinner, choice of 3 starters,4 mains,3 desserts and cheese and biscuits, at breakfast the bacon and sausage is deep fried not very appetising first thing in the morning. The food served at dinner was very tasty, this is why we scored it an 8, The staff are very good and could not do enough for us.

We had an excellent stay in this hotel. It exceeded our expectations. We had a comfortable refurbished room. Would have preferred a bigger bed for our two night stay. Our shower room was newly refitted. Room had tea/coffee making facilities. The food in the hotel was excellent, breakfast and dinner were both served to you at table which was great. Dinner choices were good and substantial portions were served. All restaurant staff were very helpful and extremely efficient. The hotel is very short walk to the pier and town centre. I would recommend this hotel and will go back. It is excellent value for money.

We had a great time. Staff was super friendly and food was yum Couple of things that could be better. House keeping didn't refresh towels or toiletries the next day. We had to request clean towels but they were happy to oblige. We asked for chips an pizza for kids the first day as my kids have texture issues an hence don't eat much variety. The first night they had that but second night we had to buy them food from a takeaway as they didn't have any chips. Ok they may argue I didn't request it again the second day but we were away to isle of Bute an I assumed it would be same again. These things niggled at us an took away from the perfect score.
