Ernespie House Hotel, Castle Douglas

Hotel was very cold Other guests complained that their room was also Baltic so heating was put back on and stayed on for rest of the weekend On the Friday night we slept in our clothes and also used the throws off both beds and decided we would cut our losses and go home next day By the Saturday it was slightly warmer in the bedroom but not in corridors so we stayed the second night which was bit better There was a wood burner and an industrial fan heater in the reception / lounge area where the meals were served but unless beside the fire it still wasn’t comfortable The staff were friendly Our room was large and the bed / pillows were comfortable Tea tray was very basic ( no biscuits or teabags ) Bathroom was modern but needed a few things finishing off ( marks on floor , grouting not great ) Food on first night was from the curry menu and it was just ok Not a patch on our local Indian resteraunt Second night we ate fron the normal menu and we both enjoyed our meals much more - a steak pie and a Korean chicken burger Breakfast each morning was good Would we stay again ? Def not in winter but a summer stay could be a possibility because the cold made for a very uncomfortable stay

Sak could not have been more friendly, hotel warm, welcoming, comfee room, good breakfast. The dinner served, one of the best Asian foods we have tasted. For a quite peaceful night you cannot beat this hotel.

Stayed for a short weekend break. The hotel is located in lovely mature grounds, perfect for the dogs. The food was really nice, all of the staff were very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. Would definitely come back

We had booked 2 king size rooms. One of the rooms was not a king size. On your website it stated that the hotel was recently refurbished. There was work going on in the bar area and this was closed. The food was good but there were extra money to be paid on a lot of items, even steak pie, I have never seen or heard of that before. I would say the dining room and the breakfast room could be doing with a freshen up.

A beautiful old mansion in lovely gardens. Very friendly and welcoming staff and excellent value for money. The owners are obviously modernising and some parts may look a little jaded at present, but spotlessly clean, large pleasant room with very comfortable bed, and all necessary comforts. Restaurant menu also varied and good, and an excellent breakfast, A most enjoyable stay

Rooms and food were excellent. Staff were very helpful and worked hard to make our stay very comfortable. Manager was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the surrounding area. The young waitress was a lovely girl and so accommodating. Had a lovely break. Only downfall was the very bumpy drive up to the entrance.

Lovely 2 nights at the weekend for my partners birthday. Room was a bit cold to start with but soon heated up. No welcome back or phones in the room so you need to go down to reception. 2 members who were on shift were lovely. 2nd night we ate in the pods which was lovely and recommend. Good was great, portion sizes were massive for dinner. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely friendly hotel. We were celebrating my 80th Birthday and the owners and staff made it feel special. There are lovely places to visit in the immediate area like Kircudbright , Kippford and Rockcliffe.

Original room allocation was not very nice and heater not working. Very quickly given a far superior room with working radiator. Heating did not come on until 8.00am the first morning of our stay but this was quickly rectified and the heating was on by 6.00am the next morning. All the staff were very pleasant and immediately attended to any of our requests.

Fabulous 2 night stay at the hotel. New owners took over last year and have undertaken work upgrading the rooms. Work is continuing with scaffolding up to put a new roof on the main part of the hotel, there was a slight damp smell in the stairwell foyer however this will be due to the roof. New Windows were also going in. Staff were fabulous, nothing too much trouble, also making time to talk to guests. The owner also came out at mealtimes to check everything was okay. My family and I look forward to returning to this hotel next year to see the further improvements made. One to watch I do hope this hotel thrives to become one of the best in the area. Nice to see that both owners and staff have the same vision and are working for the business to succeed.
