Nice break at the Barony hotel...if you go you must try the lava stone for cooking your steak at dinner...it's brilliant ...we had the dog with us and there is plenty of grass for it to run about on plus the hotel is really dog friendly .On in all a delightful break .

This was our first visit to Barony Castle Hotel and we really enjoyed it. One bonus was about 30 veteran cars from the MG owners club who were visiting over a few days. Very welcoming staff. Excellent food. Comfortable room. Peaceful grounds to walk round. We will be back!

An overnight stay for mum’s 80th birthday. We had a family room which had a double & single bed in it. It was nicely decorated, the beds were comfortable. Had previously ordered a bottle of prosecco which was in our room in an iced bucket with 2 champagne flutes. We phoned ahead and booked dinner which turned out to be a good idea as hotel was busy. The food was good. Not sure if you could order of bar menu and eat it the restaurant. After dinner we had drinks in the bar not to expensive. We didn’t use the spa or gym facilities. The following we enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast which was self service. We chose fruit & yoghurt followed by a cooked breakfast. After checking out we walked around the grounds and visited the map of scotland originally built by polish solidiers. The staff were all friendly and polite would recommend this hotel.

Comfortable , idyllic location good ammeneties Our 6th visit but found the restaurant staff not up to previous standards ( we have special dietary requirements which were too much trouble ) Food up to a decent standard but as with most budget breakfasts it could have been hotter

Had a few nights away with my husband. Check in was speedy and receptionist very pleasant. Room was on 2nd floor. A wee bit dated but on the whole clean and spacious enough (a wee bit of mound on wall under window). Beds comfortable. The food was amazing quality. Breakfast was a buffet and all food was warm. Took the plunge with ‘Steak on a Stone’ for dinner one night, Restaurant manager explained the process. Very helpful. All staff members were very pleasant including domestic staff. We used the pool and it was very clean. In fact the whole hotel was exceptionally clean, inside and out. Lovely walks around the hotel, not much else, so if you’re looking for a place to get away from it for a few days this hotel is ideal. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel, spa staff are brilliant and had an amazing treatment. Changing rooms could do with another shower. Afternoon tea was lovely but my duck dish at dinner was ok. Our prestige room was really nice and grounds are lovely. Would definitely go back.

The stay at the hotel warrants a higher score than given in the categories below. The fabric of the hotel has and is being undergoing an upgrade all very tasteful. Only criticism is that the lights above the bed really aren’t good for reading. The location and grounds, the swimming pool and conservatory make for an enjoyable stay. The food at dinner didn’t live up to the write up, all a bit pretentious but the quality of the food at breakfast was excellent. Breakfast was entirely self service and was very successful with the staff attentively removing finished plates expeditiously. This was our second visit and if returning to this area will stay here again in preference to others we have visited

The best thing about this hotel is the chef. Dinner was fabulous but he was clearly absent at breakfast which was poor; hard, tasteless sausages, congealed fried eggs. We booked principally for the spa but the sauna wasn’t hot and the pool was cold. The masseuse however gave a very good massage. The room was fine however the hotel should advise guests staying in or near room 128 that it’s above a noisy boiler room which is inconsistent with what is otherwise a peaceful countryside environment. The staff were sufficiently responsive but not naturally service-minded. Would we recommend this hotel as advertised? No.

Ok we booked a privilege room for 4 nights @ Barony Castle via Myhotelbreak.com to celebrate my wifes 60th birthday. We have stayed here before a few years ago and enjoyed it so thought we would return. Despite having a confirmation email and a timely reminder email from Myhotelbreak we arrived to find that they had no record of the booking. This was not a problem as I had taken a copy of the confirmation email and they had a room available just took a little longer than necessary. The break included Dinner on 2 nights so we were asked if we wanted to book a table, since they were pretty quiet on the first night we were told the latest we could book for would be 7:30 a little earlier than we would have liked but I guess understandable. So we got to the room which was OK - nice big bed but no view at all - looked onto a wall (shame, last time we had a great view) everything was fine at Dinner not many other people in, food and service were great. Breakfast next morning was ordered from waitress (again because they were quiet) but we had to make our own toast (I know a lot of Hotels do this now but I prefer not to as I can never get it right on their machines) and also we had to get our own tea, this was a first for me and a definite retrograde step in the hospitality business) after making my own tea and toast I felt like I should be on wages :( We ate out next night but the hotel had now acquired some more guests in the shape of a coach party so next morning the "usual" hot buffet breakfast was on hand for us to help ourselves. So having eaten our hot breakfast my wife went to get hlf some toast as I had burnt the toast a little (one pass it's not cooked enough 2 passes it burns) and I went to get a cup of tea having left my toast and some orange juice still at the table, by the time I got back with my tea the table had been cleared though the waitress realised her mistake and offered to get me some more toast a good reason in my book to supply a pot of tea rather than making people get their own. Booked in for Dinner again at 7:30 and this time the restaurant was quite full so we were allocated a table and ordered our food there was one other couple in the downstairs bit when we got there but it filled up over the next 1 minutes or so, Now the Barony Castle has a specialist menu using Hot Lava stones or some such were you cook your own meat. This may not have been a problem but we got surrounded by them and it was like being surrounded by BBQ's, the Steaks weren't too bad but one lady had Lamb and voluminous amounts of greasy smoke were produced that infiltrated our clothing. To add insult to injury we did not receive our main courses until I eventually complained (having seen 6 or 7 couples get served before us despite coming in after us - one such couple had finished their main before our starter was cleared) when our meal came I had salmon with a hard crust baked on and the sauce was baked on the plate clearly they had been forgotten under the infra-red lamp in the kitchen, problems happen sometimes but when I queried this I was told no the chef has just put them out, to me a fairly obvious untruth. The result of this was my wife refused to eat in the restaurant the next night which was actually her birthday because of the BBQ effect from the hot stones - the food despite being late and baked was still edible. A couple of other things worth mentioning The Privilege room contained a fancy cassette coffee maker but there were no instructions on how to use it and the Hotel wi-fi takes you to a registration page which asks for a few details before you can use it - one of which is an email address - I found out when I got home that it emails you a link for confirmation which probably works well if you have email on your phone but I don't would have been nice to be informed. Also worth mentioning the Staff they were on the whole excellent aside from the waiter who fairly blatantly told me porkies about our meals - would I stay here again - possibly but would probably try The Hydro next time to see how it compares.

We had a nice stay in the hotel which is in the process of having some decorating being done. The pool area is looking very tired with walls with various water marks. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the server we had in dining room was excellent and the 2 staff on the bar were very good. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel for short stays.

The room was spotless and had some lovely extras: free items in the mini fridge, jacuzzi bath, anti-steam bathroom mirror, seating area, bathrobes. The facil were great. We loved the pool and the sauna. We hadn't realised the pool needed a code till we went down there, so It'd be nice if that was more obvious. The grounds made for a very nice walk. The path through the woods was beautiful, especially with all the snow. The Great Polish map lived up to its name, it was great. One thing that was rather irritating was the inaccessible "additional parking". The main parking was cleared of snow but the parking down the road a bit wasn't. With the main car park being full, I stupidly tried to park in the snowy, additional spaces anyway and my car became stuck. I had to borrow a shovel from the hotel to dig it out. Fortunately, there was a space available in the main car park by the time my car was freed. I would have expected that car park to be cleared too. Especially with the main car park being busy. All in all, we had a great time and loved it.

Excellent food, excellent service in the restaurant, and very helpful and pleasant welcome on reception. Only issues radiator in corridoor outside rooms 127/128 not working and problems with radiator in room. Very cold when we arrived turned it on, but seemed to turn itsel during dinner. Also leisure centre understaffed, ladies out of use and little alternative.

Pros Excellent food and menu the service from staff was excellent they worked really hard to make your stay enjoyable all in all a great break Cons the leisure facil I found very small and any more than 10 people it would be overcrowded you could think about moving the shower area and putting in a steam room but I am nitpicking would definitely go back to barony

Room clean and comfortable but disappointed that there was no wifi access in the room and spa bath not working. Food good but strong smell of cooking and smoke quite thick in dining room when others were served steak they cooked at their table, we had to leave the table early due to this and their was a lot of coughing from people due to this.
