Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa, Peebles

This is my second stay this year and I was disappointed this time. Room was not as clean as last time there was a big muddy footprint on the bedding which was obvious - don't know how housekeeping put this on!! You get one key which works lights and heaters once you take the key out the heater goes off, given the time of year it was freezing in the room. Don't think I will be back.

I had entered on booking a request to have a room away from the road, which they did not allocate!!! They then tried to say there wasn't any, which I later found was not true. I refused to pay an upgrade so asked them to give us a room higher up. When we got to the room it was on the side away from the road which I was glad about. However when leaving they tried to charge us the supplement, which I refused to pay and had to explain my conversation on arrival. Clearly them giving the best room on arrival does not apply at the Cardrona which is disappointing.

We had a wonderful holiday with you, and enjoyed our stay very much apart from two small setbacks. First the Hungarian lad who did (didn't do our room) on Tuesday. He had no idea what to do, just PULLED the bed together, didn't sort tea/coffee things, no biscuits, very laid back no rush. Second young man in dinning rooms comment about left food. "What's this, what's this" " would you like me to wrap it up for you. It was a small piece of Fatty meat. He then went to the elderly lady on next table who had had a large piece of Cod, he asked said " should I wrap that for you" then to another table and a similar remark, by then I was very cross. He has a great personality, and very friendly, but passing remarks to 'women' not men about leaving food is dreadful. He did tell him when he came back, and he apologised and did not mean to cause offence. I accept that. But staff should never comment on left over food, as sadly people leave for various reasons including health and not wishing to make a fuss. Over all the Hotel and Staff was amazing. Thanks for recommending it.

Excellent hotel. Very recommendable. Lovely large room with both bath and shower. Amazing 8 foot wide double bed with good view of the hills. Staff very nice and caring.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Macdonald Cardrona. Lovely hotel and golf course and the food especially at dinner was excellent. If I had a small gripe - it would be that there was no vending machine to get chocolate or crisps. The bar did not even sell crisps.

Great hotel, great staff, great food as usual. staff in restaurant could do with more experience. I think they brought in extra staff as hotel was so busy.

Staff at hotel from our arrival to our departure could not have been more helpful or polite. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was as we expected it would be and the leisure facilities were excellent. Food both in the evening and at breakfast was superb and we certainly enjoyed our relaxing break in this part of the country.

We really enjoyed our night away, evening meal was delicious, lovely room, good selection for breakfast, great facilities - we managed to use their gym and swimming pool. Loved it, thanks.

Room very clean. House keeper lovely. However child's bed was broken and my son fell through it. Luckily wasn't hurt. Food was ok however waited over an hour for kids meals on second night. When they eventually came they were wrong and on boiling hot plates. Desserts were then wrong. Majority of stag ff in the restaurant were not friendly and unhelpful. When we asked to speak to a manager, she was unavailable. Leisure facilities were good however fitness instructor taking a class at the pool commented on our kids being in the pool. Receptionist was lovely. Hotel was good overall but level of staff did not appear to be able to cope with volume of guests.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cardrona. The setting for the hotel is just lovely. The food is amazing and served by friendly and attentive staff.

We have stayed several times at Macdonald Cardrona and love it. The Classic Brittain package is marvellous value for money v Macdonald standard rates. Cannot rate the staff highly enough. For keen walkers the area offers much and the 7 Stanes for bike riders. Hotel also dog friendly so scores 100% with us. We love the area, but if you want to venture over to the east coast, Berwick upon Tweed is one and a half hour drive and a lovely place to visit. We went on a very warm sunny 1st November day, sitting outside having lunch by the river, fantastic.

Fantastic stay. All our guests received an upgrade free of charge. Staff very attentive. Provided private dining for our party. Excellent time had by all.
