Room very disappointing, when contrasted with the standard of the rest of the hotel, rather small with sloping ceiling, tired, and in need of a lot of TLC. Swimming lessons in pool limited acces for hotel guests.

Hotel currently being renovated. The room we were given was adequate and clean, would have benefited from an armchair. The pool area still needs to be updated, would not be an obvious choice for a spa break. Food in restaurant excellent and bar well stocked with friendly and knowledgeable bar staff . Grounds lovely and ideal for a stroll. Overall a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. Would recommend and would make a return visit. Good value .

Hotel badly needs refurbished. Restaurant and bar were nice and food was good although staff weren't very friendly. Rooms were not clean, found dirty sock, inhaler and contact lenses obviously from previous guest in room. Not good especially when staying with two children. Hotel lift was not working during our stay. I would not return to hotel.

Once again a very enjoyable stay at Barony! All staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. The meals we had (breakfast and dinner) were excellent. Well cooked and so flavoursome! Compliments to the chef. Would certainly recommend to our friends, and would like to return to this beautiful part of our country.

When we arrived in the hotel our room was ready which was super as we arrived a little early. We were given room 206 which was a privilege room with a four poster bed overlooking the car park. Later in the evening I dropped something behind the bed and when I looked behind the bed to get it there was a retokill box under the bed. I feel sick wondering what on earth they have or have had in that room. I never slept the whole night until it was light. I was terrified to get up to the toilet all night. I have been to Barony castle numerous times but this has put me off. I mentioned it to the receptionist in the morning along with the maintenance man. The explanation was 'oh that's normal we are just checking that there is nothing in the room' all hotels have them. Well I have never seen it hat in a hotel room before and we go away many weekends. I was so diappointed as my stay at the hotel was totally spilt because of this issue. I just wanted to get home. Worried about going back. My scoring on the room is very low because of the trap under the bed, didn't know if it was for mice or bugs.

We have stayed at this hotel before. On our return, we were given a privilege room , wonderful! Our first breakfast was ok! however there were no menus to show us the additional items that we could ask for - ie : - Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, egg benedict, smoked haddock, etc. Never-the less, the evening meal of Lamb was excellent, together with the starters and the sweets that we had on the two following nights. Full marks to the chef, the waitresses, fantastic service. The grounds are wonderful, many walks and the Polish Physical map of Scotland that has been built in the grounds, is in it's own something to go and see. Anything negative? Well it is an old building , wonderfully restored with up to date leisure facil. First class swimming pool, sauna , gym . However , the rooms , although very nice , could perhaps do with a little revamp, ie. a-walk in shower, and the floorboards are some what squeaky and as such you really need a top floor room in order not to be kept awake at night-time by the later guests, or to be wakened at the crack of dawn by the early risers. Would we come back? Of course we would. Your hotel has far more positives than negatives, and it's three most positive attributes is 1) It's location 2) It's food, But by far the reason to come back rest with the 3) Staff in every degree we came in contact with them

Attractive looking hotel. Paid extra for signature room, but felt somewhat basic. Bar and restaurant were quite dingy and needed updating. Pool adequate, but tiny changing rooms, and whole area felt poorly maintained. Excellent food, particularly from the A la Carte menu. Saw little of grounds, as too wet to explore. Staff friendly and helpful.

Good food, friendly and effective staff. Room was fine but at the end of a very long, tired looking corridor. Spa was also good.

Lovely weekend away. Food at horel was great but bedroom was a little tired as were the lifts and corridors to bedrooms - in need of a lick of paint and upgrade. Overall, enjoyable and would certainly return and recommend to friends.

Good Hotel, great location for touring borders and Edinburgh. Comfortable rooms, clean and well kept. Sadly however is in need of some refurbishment and sprucing up. Hallway carpets need changing, and leisure facility is in big need of overhaul. Great breakfast and super restaurant area. Bar facility good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Stayed here on several occasions but we are of the opinion that the food quality has declined ( I had to send deer back on first evening due to the smell ) On saying that we found that they catered well for gluten free guests both at dinner and breakfast. Rooms were of a good clean standard Staff helpful both on reception ,bar and restaurant. One improvement would be to stop coaches waiting outside the front of the hotel at 8am for half an hour with the engine running while waiting for passengers and loading luggage
