Was very impressed with the hotel on arrival, staff were very friendly, room was a good size & very clean, had a very pleasant experience in the dining room on the first night & we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. We were staying for two nights dinner bed & breakfast However it was all downhill from there, the service for dinner on the second night was very slow at one point there were around 18 people in the restaurant & only two people had food on the table, we waited around 40 minutes for our meals to arrive. Breakfast the next morning was even worse, we sat down around 08:45 & it was just after 09:45 before my wife's porridge was served & she couldn't eat it as it was thick lumpy & inedible. My full breakfast arrived shortly after & it was missing the haggis. The waiting staff were pleasant & kept apologising for the delay but to wait over on hour for breakfast to be served is totally unacceptable, I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but unless the hotel sorts the problem out they wont have any guests.

A pleasure to stay here, everything about this hotel was a delight.Rooms food dining room bar and best o the Staff. They were very helpful mannerly and hard working .Nothing was a problem and would talk to you to make you feel comfortable. This family run hotel deserves all the good reviews it gets and we hope to be back soon and would recommend this to anyone wishing a nice pleasant break in a lovely bit of the country.

Stayed overnight on a dinner bed and breakfast deal. Could not fault the hotel, the room was clean, lovely towels and king sized bed. The food was delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and the entertainer was an added bonus. Very enjoyable, and all this for £29.50 each. If you go to Gretna I can thoroughly recommend the Devil,s Porridge Museum, only 10 minutes from the hotel.

Clean, comfortable room. Food was good and well presented, albeit the service was a bit erratic ! Did not use the bar/public area as there was a singer/karoke there. Ideal for weddings and other functions.

The 8 of stayed overnight on the £69 BBD deal. It was worth the money. Lovely hotel, they even organised private dining for us at no extra charge. The food was good, service a little slow waited an hour for our starters but we really didn't mind as staff very polite and helpful. We then retired into the bar lounge to the big comfy sofas for drinks. It was about a 10min walk to the outlet shops. Would recommend a stay here. The shower wasn't very good, but that was the only negative thing

Had a great overnight stay. My one slight fault being the slowness of service at dinner and breakfast. Though on both occasions food was delicious and worth the wait.

Hotel and rooms are lovely, was however disappointed with a few things, firstly the food served although well presented and tasty was very cold, we sent the soup back and it was not much warmer when it came back to us, the dinner plates had not been heated and the lukewarm food then cooled very quickly. Adrian who served us was very apologetic but the fault lay with the kitchen not Adrian who was most helpful and polite. There was a wedding party in and the atmosphere was terrific, sadly the children had cut up some colouring books and tered the bits of paper all over the settee, coffee table and floor, the adults took the kids to bed and left the mess, we expected at some point one of the staff would clean up as this was a very unsightly mess for someone to sit in, after about 45 minutes my husband asked the bar staff could it be cleaned up, the paper was lifted from the table and settee but it was a further 45 minutes before the floor was cleared. I would use the hotel again and sincerely hope these lapses in service were a one off incident

Probably OK if there's not a wedding going on but noisy and too busy when there is. Took nearly an hour to get our starters at dinner and the music from a wedding party was too intrusive. We were woken at 2.45 by noisy, selfish guests on their way to their rooms. Not a good experience overall.

Lovely hotel and lovely friendly staff . Bedrooms a bit tired and so must the staff be as there were very few on duty. The meals were nice but basic and although it was never mentioned on the menus or verbally by any staff they did try to charge us for the sweets as they claimed that the deal we were given was only 2 courses . When I challenged them they advised it would have stated this on the paperwork from you, I checked and there was nothing they checked their information and eventually honoured the deal and did not charge us but blamed your group. This annoyed me , yes we had a great deal and it was but on get one free but the hotel need to take ownership and reiterate any terms and conditions . Our menu was the same each night and we made our choice and handed it back to reception each night by five pm to make it easier for the kitchen as there were 13 of us . If it had said only two courses and a supplementary charge for a third we would all have accepted it but to wait to the last night was just not acceptable ! There was an issue with the water in some of the bedrooms too , not enough water coming through the shower etc We are an easy group of people and would rarely complain about anything and we didn't bother to complain about that either nor the fact that breakfast took an hour to be served we are not there to criticise just to de stress . We did and we had a lovely time we wouldn't go back there but it is a lovely wee hotel if you want to grab some pub grub on the way home from holiday . The food is generous portions and the staff were lovely and friendly but very overworked!

Nice clean hotel, good food, staff very pleasant. Table waiter was very nice but didn't bring water glasses, left wine on the table unopened, didn't offer an ice bucket for the wine, and noticed he also did the same at other tables

Having stayed in the Gables once before we were delighted that the high standard of customer care was as we had previously enjoyed The staff are friendly and eager to ensure you have a comfortable stay. I am on a gluten free diet and was more than happy with the menu choices suitable at dinner and breakfast. The room was clean well furnished and the bed very comfortable. I would not hesitate in returning and hope to do so in the near future

Visited the Gables hotel last week. Feel that I need to post a review on account of the very poor restaurant service. This isn't something that I have done before. We found the hotel to be nice (shower wasn't great but usable) with friendly staff. HOWEVER, the evening restaurant service was terrible (breakfast was very good). On our first night, we had to find a table for ourselves (originally sat at a table that had been used but still had cutlery remaining so didn't realise). We hardly saw a member of staff in the restaurant other than serving food (mostly to the wrong table - please read further on). After a while we eventually had our order taken. We were given the wrong order for our main course which was removed apologetically. Eventually, our food arrived which was poor quality (don't get the burger.!). We asked for condiments and were promptly forgotten about. At the end of the meal I said to our server. She started with an excuse then admitted that she had forgotten about it. The following evening we sat for 45 minutes before being approached and offered a drink ( it was my partner who had to ask for a glass of water). Our order was taken then we, again, were offered some other guests meal..! Our main courses arrived (they forgot my side salad as per the menu) The food wasn't very good but we were gry so ate them. When clearing our table 'Steve' (suisor?) asked how our meals were and I informed him that the service was very poor. He acknowledged this and chatted with us about how the poor service had been going on for a while and that 'them in the back need to know about this' and that he was leaving in 6 weeks time. We thought that we would at least get our desserts at a reasonable time after chatting with Steve. After a while, our deserts arrived. Unfortunately, they weren't as per the menu (ice cream instead of the advertised Chantilly cream). My partner and I just laughed - there was no sign of Steve. I reported my concerns to the receptionist and handed over a comments card in the hope that someone will take heed of this. I certainly wasn't expecting perfection and I'm sure staff are very busy. I have used the 'My Hotel Break' site many times and have always had an enjoyable time. I'm really not here to grumble about the slightest of things. However, this was the worst customer service I've experienced using this site.
