We had a fabulous break. Previously visited 10 years ago. Even though it has been updated, still has lots of original features. Very grand place. We will hopefully be returning at some point.

We had a great break the room was clean and really big with great views number 16 on ground floor . The food was excellent as was the service from all the staff I would have no hesitation about recommending this hotel . And we intend to go back soon the leisure facilities are excellent

Enjoyable stay in a lovely spacious, clean room (although it could have done with the windows cleaned) and felt the need for not servicing the room because of covid was rather unnecessary.

Beautiful hotel and a really comfy room. The breakfast was delicious and so was the bar snacks for lunch but I am afraid the evening meal was not. My husband order a sirloin steak as it was from a local farm. It looked nice when it arrived and the head waiter asked if everything was ok. My husband had only taken a bite of the steak so we said yes but as he ate more the steak was full of grizzle so when the head waiter came back for the plates I told him about the steak and he rudely replied I asked you already if it was ok. How are you supposed to know at the start of the meal there was going to be grizzle running through it. We went home after looking at the menu on the second night as there was nothing we liked.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay. Staff are wonderful and very attentive without being obtrusive. I wasn’t well for a day or so, and the fact that staff took time to ask how I was feeling, was thoughtful and caring. We celebrated our Anniversary there and again, we’re treated to a decorated dessert wishing us a happy anniversary! My only concern was that when I booked I am sure the information said one step into the hotel. I have looked again just now and it says 15 - has this been altered recently? The reason is I would not have booked knowing that, as I have mobility issues and climbing stairs is hard. Sadly although our room and en-suite were very accessible, there is no provision to help get from reception to the room level. We were told there was a ramp at the back of the hotel, but we couldn’t park there, so I would have had to walk round - again quite difficult - and then I beleive there are steps after the ramp. Could there be a chair lift installed at one side of the staircase? There was a good bannister but I couldn’t have coped without my husband’s help. Once on the level we enjoyed the hotel’s beautiful rooms and apart from the accessibility issue couldn’t fault our stay, and would like to return if there were some changes made to accommodate mobility issues. Traditional hotel. Good size room and bathroom but not great shower. Staff friendly and service excellent. Food was 4 course meal which was a la carte maybe not totally to my taste but my husband really enjoyed the food. Good leisure facilities and nice grounds

Very happy with room and cleanliness. Stayed for two nights, but only one shampoo and shower gel between us,Room not cleaned at all, when we asked why, we were told an e-mail had been sent about it, we did’nt get one. Had to ask for clean towels, milk etc We have been to three other hotels this year and had no problems. Service in restaurant very good but quite regimented, did’nt like the pre order, and felt main courses ,,at dinner quite small, we also had ice cream for dessert and were charged £3 each, most places don’t charge. Staff on the whole were lovely, apart from reception, where only one lady was really nice

We had a lovely relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The building, itself, is impressive and a lovely change from modern plastic. Our room was large and had a balcony overlooking the golf course, where we sat in the sun. We enjoyed the use of the pool and Jacuzzi. The food was delicious, hot and always fresh. The venison was superb. The service in the restaurant was very efficient, even when busy, but always friendly and polite. We shall be back

A lovely old property which is well appointed both inside and outside. Our room was spacious and clean. All the staff were friendly, polite and attentive. The meals were well presented and delicious. Our stay was very pleasant and relaxing.

Enjoyed our stay - old world charm - like hotels used to be 30/40 years ago! Room comfortable but in need of upgrading especially bathrooms. Service slow in dining room but quality and choice of food excellent. The hotel is in need of total refurbishment.

We had a great time at the hotel last week. We have been to this hotel on numerous occasions and find it very enjoyable and relaxing. The staff are all really efficient and friendly with no exception. The food was very good, we had to try things both nights that we had never eaten before, but luckily enough we both liked them.

This was our 3rd stay here, and we were not disappointed. Large comfortable lounges, excellent bedroom in the Forest Wing, fantastic pool, staff very attentive, food superb. A very peaceful 2 day stay.

Very well located for access to the attractions of Dumfries and Galloway. Very friendly staff. The dining arrangements should be advised at checkin. The use of the golf and spa is forfeit if visiting near and far attractions.
