Staff at hotel were all very pleasant and my stay at the Barony was overall a very pleasant experience,one small issue was the heat of the room,being situated on the 2nd floor above the leisure facilities the heat was almost unbearable,obviously this is a known issue as a fan was supplied as part of the facilities of the room

2nd visit here on my own. only disappointment was the main meal- pasta ricotta with garlic sauce. Think I picked the wrong choice other guests meals looked really good. the starter and cheese made up for this.

The hotel and grounds are in great shape. We stayed in newly refurbished rooms which were nicely done. The hotel suffers from only having one lift and it is a maze to find the bedroom. A written guide might be helpful or at least bigger signs. The food was well presented and on the whole good. I commented on the tiramisu being bought in - and tasteless- and was pleased when told that this was only item on menu not made in house. Take it off! The breakfasts were fine but the arrangement of food and utensils needs to be changed, just no logic to it. The dining staff were efficient but lacked enthusiasm. The reception staf were helpful. We did not see one person from management during our three days unlike in the Angus hotel Bliargowrie and the Crown hotel Wetheral and Hetland Hall Dumfries which we have recently visited with Classic Britain. So our visit was not so personal and welcoming and was noted by our Swiss friends which is a pity as the hotel was not busy. We think this will be a great place once the hotel is finished and wish them success in attracting conferences and functions which they will surely needto keep the place viable. With a few more smiles we would prefer it to the Hydro.

Nice tranquil location. Very attentive staff who were very helpful and well mannered. Good choice of menu in main restaurant which had a convivial atmosphere although choice of main courses in bar was rather limited. A thoroughly enjoyable break which we would certainly consider returning to.

In general found the hotel very welcoming. Thought the rooms were a bit tired looking and the exterior of the hotel required money being spent on it. The grounds and the the pool area were outstanding. Thoughts in general were that you could have been doing with extra staff e.g. cleaning and clearing up in public areas could have been better.

This is the 1st time my wife and i have been at the Barony Castle for a few years but we are totally impressed with the way Mercure have changed it. The staff were all fantastic, from the reception - bar staff -dining room and cleaners. Every one of them went out of their way to make us feel welcome and they could not have been more helpful. My wife is disabled and anything we asked for was made available without difficulty. We will certainly return in the future as a first class break for us. Keep up the good work

We were on a 2 night B&B one night evening meal included break,the room, breakfasts and evening meal were fine.we thought the drinks and bar food expensive the portions, small fish and oven French fries in a basket were certainly not worth

pleasant peaceful surroundings and a lovely country setting about 5 miles from Peebles, unlike other hotels at Peebles this one is approx. 1/2 mile from the main road and lovely and quiet. The building itself is showing its age a little and in need of a little facelift in places but generally ok. The swimming pool we found to be quite small, hot, crowded and very strong with chlorine fumes, entry to the pool from the hotel is controlled by a combination door lock? why this is difficult to comprehend as the area by the door is dark and it is difficult to try to get the right combination if one is not wearing glasses and does not have a torch with you ( you have to get changed first in the changing rooms then go though the combination lock door to get into the pool ( where is on supposed to carry your glasses and a torch when you have changed into swimming gear and left your clothes in the locker?), the possibility of someone who is not a hotel guest using the pool is remote therefore the combination lock to get into the pool (code supplied to guests) is an intense annoyance for the reasons mentioned. We found the restaurant food very good and generally service excellent, HOWEVER, on one of the nights we decided to try one of the " bar meals" hugely disappointing!. Bar meal choice was very limited and very poor value "fish and chips in the basket with salad" ( we thought "food in the basket" faded out in the 1070's! for many obvious reasons). What we found was that the portions were very small, the chips were very thin crispy french sticks and the salad just a few soggy curly lettuce leaves in the bottom of the basket. This was an excellent overnight stay. The room and food were superb, and we will definitely be visiting again. The sunday morning massage in the Spa was fab!

Hotel was busy , when we aarrived the staff had no record of our booking , we were given a voucher to get a coffee while they sorted it out . we were then given room 401 at the furthest away building , as we were ready for a drink we dropped off our bags and went to sit in the sun. we later realised this was not a double bed but two single beds pushed together - not a big problem but the mattrasses were not even the same meaning one half was lower than the other - did mention this on the saturday but got little response , dont have the habit of complaining but we mentioned it as we checked out and were advised to request room 206 if we were to stay again . second time we have stayed here

I cannot understand how a kitchen that sends out the great food it does at dinner can be so terrible when it comes to a buffet breakfast. Shortage of food items, cold food, lack of plates, no orange juice I could go on and on.

Were offered an upgrade which we unfortunately had to decline as I couldn't use shower over bath due to a recent operation. This was quickly resolved and new room was lovely looking out to courtyard garden. All the staff were very friendly. The hotel looks amazing as you drive up towards it,when you are inside you realise how old it is- it is like a rabbit warren all quirky little corners and LONG corridors. The lounge and restaurant are modern. The leisure facilities looked amazing but we didn't use them so can't comment.

Had a fabulous stay at Barony Castle. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Food was superb. Just a pity we couldn't stay longer. Have already booked with Classic Britain to go back to Peebles this weekend.

We had a wonderful last-minute break in the Barony Castle Hotel and were pleasantly surprised by several aspects of the hotel experience. A slight hiccup when we booked in was dealt with very professionally yet in a friendly way and resulted in a room upgrade. The room was attractive and relaxing but we experienced rather a lot of noise from above and also from the corridor due to creaking floorboards. This is forgiveable as it is a historic building, a few centuries old! The food was well-presented and delicious with a good choice for each course at dinner. The breakfast fare from the excellent porridge to the selection of cooked food tasted very good, though was not as hot as it should have been. Thank you
