We had a very pleasant stay at Barony Hotel. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room whilst a little on the small side suited our needs, was warm and comfortable. The complimentary toiletries were really only adequate for one person, but as we travel with our own, it wasn't a problem.

We booked a twin room and ended up with very spacious room with double and single bed in it, very nice. Hotel a little bit dated but still very nice. Leisure facilities ok also. We found Prices at the bar quite expensive. The only disappointing thing of the weekend was being charged

We stayed one night at this hotel, but would have liked to have stayed longer. It was lovely, very clean, comfortable bed, good food and excellent staff. Only negative was young man attending the bar in the evening (rude) describes him best. Would recommend this hotel.

Really friendly staff - very comfortable beds - quiet and peaceful surroundings - excellent breakfast and dinner service with good food. My 83 yr old mother was delighted with her walk-in shower, cosy bathroom and emergency cords. Thanks very much.

Enjoyed our stay here, the only down side was at dinner when placing our order we asked for a break between courses, I would say that within 20 mins we had ordered, had our starter and had been given our main course, all a bit rushed. Although the food was very good it was all a bit quick for us. The hotel really did themselves out of money, as there was 4 of us normally over a meal we would have more than 1 bottle of wine and usually liqueurs with coffee. There just wasn't time and coffee wasn't offered. it was as if the staff had somewhere else to be and couldn't wait for us to go. Breakfast on the other hand was nice and relaxed even being offered more coffee and tea.

This could have been a different hotel since we stayed last summer, the room we had had a radiator with a faulty thermostat, so it wouldn't switch off.....so the first night we couldn't sleep for the tropical heat......the night porter came and said it was uncomfortable, but if we went for breakfast first thing (7am) he would get the janitor/handyman to come up ASAP when he started and fix while we were at breakfast. We stayed out of the room to allow this to be done, when we returned around 11am, he hadn't been......when he eventually did arrive, he said as he had been told we hadn't slept, he didn't want to disturb us !!!!! Lack of communication. So to cut a long story short, the radiator was turned off by maintenance after a fair bit of coming and going.......but to be completely honest, the break we had been looking forward to since February was neither relaxing or comfortable which was a shame. I know these things sometimes happen.....but the offer of another room would have been acceptable, since we were informed this particular radiator was giving the hotel problems since Christmas. On the plus side the staff are pleasant and courteous and a credit to the barony.

We recently visited Barony Castle for our anniversary. It didnt start great, as there was a wedding on they had over booked the privilage rooms but without telling us the guy behind the counter gave us the key and gave us directions to our room. When we got to our room we realised it was just a standard room. We returned to reception where a lady apologised and explained that note was on reservation on their computers and said we must have booked at same time as others and that there was no other rooms they could give us. (A bit annoyed that guy didnt tell us when checked in or didnt receive a call telling us). She gave us a free bottle of wine and told us to return the following day and shel sort something out for our final night. The wedding was just below us and was a bit noisy but it is understandable being a wedding. The standard room wasnt great, window didnt stay open so was very warm and room was quite compact with a low shower (had to bend down to get under shower). The following day was much better she apologised again and gave us a upgrade to one of the suites. The suite was lovely and spacious. The room was ready straight away for us (10am). As much as it didnt start well, our second day was much better with a lovely room. The room was clean and tidy and had good facilities, was a shame it was our last night! The food was 3courses which was very good. We used the leisure facilities a lot and they were very nice and relaxing. Drinks at the bar were very pricy,

Stayed 1 night DBB. Room was very tired and not that clean, food at dinner was not up to much and had an hour wait for mains to reach us only after we had noticed that other tables who sat down after us were eating before us, spoke to waiter who informed us that there was a computer issue, he offered us a drink while we waited. Could have been handled better.

The staff are a credit to the hotel nothing was any bother to them. The bedroom that we occupied was nice enough but could have done with some basic cleaning ie cobwebs just hanging from the blinds and marks on the walls. But overall i would recommend the hotel for a nice quiet break.

Very disappointed with our stay so much so came home a day early. The room no.129 on the whole was very nice until you tried to sleep. The noise from the boiler room which seemed to be below was horrendous & went on all night.1st evening at dinner wrong desserts were brought.Next day when we returned to our room after being out all day around 4.30pm housekeeping had not attended to our room. That evening wrong starter was brought then 1 main course was cold. The time between courses was very long 45mins we waited on dessert & ended up leaving. The problem seemed to be staff shortage in the housekeeping & restaurant as the staff were working full out & all were very pleasant.I don't normally complain but in this instance too many things were going wrong which spoiled our long awaited few days away.Im starting to think the deals that Classic Britain have are very good but the Hotels do not seem to accommodate you as you are getting a cheaper rate.i.e. room allocation.

Bedroom was very nice, clean and comfortable . Not well made up next morning -tidied but cups/glasses not cleaned or renewed. Food excellent, service a bit sketchy but staff all extremely pleasant ,helpful and hardworking so not a real problem. Laundry / service area we had to walk through cluttered and had unpleasant damp/ drain/ laundry odour which lingered all day in that area. Understand need for area but generally very unpleasant for guests - perhaps need for better ventilation? Generally an enjoyable stay, would say that the hotel is perhaps understaffed.

We booked a Sunday Night Saver Deal, which is good value for money, but we left feeling a bit disappointed and won't book to stay at this hotel again. The bedroom was clean (apart from cobwebs on the ceiling) but dated. The radiator was broken and stuck on full blast - we reported this to the reception and asked if we could move rooms, but the only other room available was one that other customers had moved from because of noise from a nearby generator. We slept with the window open which was ok, but if it was a very icy or windy night, this solution would not have sufficed! The floorboards were also very creaky, and you could hear everything from people passing in the corridor. The swimming pool was lovely, although I imagine it would get rather cramped if there were more than 2 or 3 people in it. The bar and restaurant area are nice. The staff were, on the whole, pleasant and helpful, with special mention going to the older lady on duty as she was very nice. Dinner was from a set menu - we had the steak pie in a giant yorkshire pudding, which was obviously left-over meat from the afternoon's carvery, so it was a bit chewy. The food was ok, but not the standard I might have expected from a hotel. Breakfast was ok - a good selection of hot items, plus cereal, fruit etc. However it took a while to get a hot drink (I had to flag a waiter over) and the coffee was wishy washy. Another thing worthy of comment, if management are reading - there was a wedding on the previous evening, but staff had not cleared away the function room/ games room. By the evening it was still not cleared, and I took it upon myself to close the massive gaping door and sort out the lights (I was also tempted to shove the rails of tablecloths and other detritus in the ajacent room, but thought that was a step too far). Just 5-10 minutes of clearing and resetting would have been required. All in all, it was an ok stay (and we can't argue with price) but hotel could do better.

We recently stayed at Barony Thursday 20th March. We were there for a relaxing break, however this was not the case as the spa was taken over by a very loud swimming instructor and four young children. The hotel failed to inform us these swimming lessons were taking place, otherwise we would have chosen another time to use the spa.

Lovely place, bedroom was a little on the small side but for the money it was great!!! Food was nice and bar service was excellent! Only downside was the deal we booked included a bottle of bubbly and chocolates in the room on arrival! However there was nothing in our room. The gentleman on reception said he would get it arranged however never did! Very disappointing to say the least! Eventually at 8.30pm I called down to reception again to enquirer about the bubbly etc and that receptionist did bring these to our room!

Generally had a good stay. On a two night deal so didn't expect a prime room. Room we had was clean and comfortable but few extras. Decoration, especially windows (we were at the back of the hotel), need some attention. Food we generally good. Good flavours throughout only very slightly let down but actual cooking of main component of main course on both nights-not worth complaint. Otherwise no problems. Good areas to sit and relax, bar and dining room very nice. Didn't use leisure club so can't comment. It is a lovely old baronial pile and Mercure have invested a bit of money to convert it back into a hotel. Still need to spend a bit though you can see that things are being done round about. Would say it is definitely worth a look for a break.

Booked a double room, but had 2 single beds pushed together, one about 6" higher than the other, and 2 small duvets! Cobwebs on the ceiling may have been unacceptable to some people too. TV did not work, and could not get WiFi in the bedroom. Fortunately we did not spend much time in the bedroom. There are lovely surroundings for dog walking, nice leisure facilities, and a great wee pool room.

I must admit when I was told we had booked a 3 star hotel I was a bit concerned as I prefer 4 or over. But I was totally impressed with the Barony Castle. The rooms were of a good size and the bedding was spotlessly clean. We had plenty of very large bath towels and toiletries. The Sunday night package we booked was fantastic value for money as the choice and quality of food in the restaurant was extremely good and the buffet breakfast the following morning offered plenty of choice and everything was freshly prepared. We found all of the staff very friendly and we totally enjoyed our overnight stay, so much so that we plan another visit soon to explore more of Peebles and the surrounding countryside.

Monday night dinner had avery restricted menu, all of which contained peppers or chilli. Tuesday was completely different and of a very high standard. Our room was only partially cleaned on the first morning - cups not washed, refreshments not renewed, toilet not cleaned and bathmat not replaced. the toilet flush was not working properly. The bathroom door handle was falling off and the room key was difficult to use. The leisure facilities were fabulous and spotless. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much bother. The dining room staff deserve a special comment as they gave an excellent service
