Had a 2 day spa break at the Barony Castle Hotel with my sister, we were looking forward to getting away but unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. The Hotel itself was lovely although could do with a fresh coat of paint. The room was basic and we had to ask for hangers as only had 3! The room was clean and the bed was comfy, had asked for a twin room but got double, hotel didn't seem to be that busy. Most of the staff were friendly but the waiting staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and could definitely have done with some basic training. We had to ask for our wine several times on night 2 and waited for about an hour to get it, they came to the table 3 times with our starter tho! There didn't seem to be much communication between the waiting staff and no system. The food was nice and there was plenty of choice at breakfast, however on the 2nd morning there weren't enough tables set up and we had to keep asking for things, ie tea, coffee, cutlery. The hotel pool is very small so got busy very quickly and there was only one shower in the changing room, but it had a sauna and jacuzzi. We spoke to the duty manager before we left and passed on our comments.

As we had previously stayed at this hotel,a few years ago, we knew what to expect.All staff were very helpful, should you require assistance or service.Dinner can be provided in either the restaurant or bar area, both comfortable to dine in, a set menu in the restaurant, which could do with more choice..in my opinion. Overall a pleasant experience. However, if you decide to have a drink at the bar area, make sure you avoid sitting on the sofa's,as they are so low to the ground, after a few G&T's, you will require the assistance of a hoist to remove you from them.There is a small pool, with sauna, which if you decide to use,you will have to phone the reception to switch on the sauna.During our stay, i spoke to some others, who informed me they had made a call to the reception requesting this, but some time later it still was not switched on.The bedroom is comfortable, although we did have to switch on the electric heated towel-rail, otherwise the bathroom would have felt cold.The bed was firm and comfy, although a second pillow would have been better, as i felt my head was just to low, for that perfect sleep.Late check out was available at 2pm, so after breakfast we were able to walk the grounds to take in some fresh air in the warm sunshine, before travelling, 4 miles (approx) into Peebles, for the afternoon. Overall an enjoyable short stay, for anyone wanting a quiet break, so would have no hesitation on returning.

Had a great overnight stay with dinner and wine and full Scottish breakfast. Food was fantastic. rooms too. Didn't have the time to use facilities but they looked good. Would recommend. Great value for money

on arrival we were greeted by Colin very pleasant man who took us to our room. the hotel could be doing with attention to the hallways and bedrooms as we had a cobweb in room above window.reception bar and dining room were good .

Fantastic value. Large group stayed and thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Food good,rooms clean and comfortable and staff pleasant. Best bit was the breakfast. For the money we paid, we will most definitely return. We'll done!

We had a very relaxing stay in March 2014. We were a wee bit concerned about the possible disruption to our peace and quiet due to a weeding being held on our second night, but that was misplaced. The only slight criticism was that our room was suffering from a wee bit of fatigue and could have done with a bit of tlc. Otherwise the stay was was very good.

My wife & I paid for an upgrade to a superior room but was given quite a small double room. The reception team was very helpful and moved us to a larger room. The leisure facilities were very clean and we enjoyed our time there. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would consider booking the Barony again in the future.

This hotel is excellent for the price you pay,just booked another night here. Some of the bedrooms could probably do with an upgrade but quite satisfactory. Food is great and staff nice. Peebles is a lovely spot for a short break, nice shops!

Had yet another fantastic stay at Barony. Have visited on a number of occasions now and every time we go you can see further improvements to hotel. The staff are lovely, grounds beautiful, swimming pool nice and warm. Some rooms are a bit dated but they are working to improve. Good value for money if you get a deal like we did. Only disappointment this time round was limited menu!

Helpful reception staff. Attentive waiting staff in restaurant. Was greeted with a smile and "Good morning" from housekeeping staff. Pleasant quiet room. Enjoyable meal and breakfast. Lovely setting and impressive building.
