Lovely hotel and grounds , probably better to see grounds in spring rather than winter.

Having stayed at this hotel before my wife and I decided to take our daughter there as an extra treat for her 40th birthday along with her son, the family room No 226 was in very decorative condition with nice views overlooking the grounds. They have work ongoing in the hotel and I am sure it will be worth it when completed as work already done is up to a high standard, the facil are good with games room, snooker table & of course the swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna. The hotel is well situated for touring the borders and surrounding area and Peebles is a nice town.

Bedrooms require updating. The shower could not be adjusted appropriately-it was either too hot or too cold. Ended up having a cold shower.

Had a really relaxing 2 night break at the Peebles Hydro. Nice room and comfortable bed. Allocation was on the 3rd floor at the front of the hotel (which I had requested, and pleased this was afforded to us). The views were tremendous. Food was very, very good and of good portion size.. Leisure Centre was fantastic - the pool huge - and all areas kept really clean. Best hotel leisure centre we've been in. Although hotel is undergoing refurbishment, public areas were all clean and comfortable. Hotel grounds very well maintained. Staf nice.

Expecting a relaxing few days away!!! Had to change rooms as there was building work going on in the room above. Dinner took 2hrs 15mins on the first evening, ody seemed to know what they were doing, lots of young inexperienced waiting staff. We were given soup twice. Things got better in restaurant on our third night when someone seemed to have control of things. Fire alarm went off at 2am and again at 5am on our first night so sleep was almost zero. We did have a nice room but had paid extra for a 'feature room'. Overall a very disappointing stay.

Lovely room with great view over hills and very comfortable bed. Some teething problems with service and organisation at breakfast as food not replenished before running out and no tea/coffee offered but this improved greatly on third morning. Evening meals and service were excellent. Hotel staff are certainly trying hard and with the setting of the hotel, they deserve it.

We had a one night stay last month to celebrate our friends Birthday. We arrived about 1pm and had Afternoon Tea - this was lovely as were the staff. However, only one of our three rooms were ready by 2pm. Although room cards were issued. We had Spa treatments booked from 3pm onwards and one room when checked at 2.50pm (we hoped to at least leave bags in) still had the door wedged open but had not yet been cleaned! Disappointing when you are only staying the one night. The girls in the Spa were lovely especially the young girl and we all thoroughly enjoyed our treatments. I also had a swim later, the pool staff were friendly and helpful. At Dinner we had to re-order our main course as the Kitchen only had 18 steaks available that evening? and they were all gone by the time we ordered (our table was booked at 6.45pm). We had to order alternatives so ended up having a one hour wait between our starter and main course. At Breakfast we ordered Tea and Coffee and we had to ask for this 20 minutes later - the young waiter apologised saying he had "forgotten about us". One toast machine meant a long queue so either your toast was hot and your food was cold or vice versa. On checking out there was initially only one member of staff on reception, another lady arrived while we were waiting to be served. We asked for the bill to be split equally between 5 of us. We advised the receptionist there must be a mistake as we had coffees and a bottle of wine during our stay but she was charging us less than the advertised price? She said it was correct and considering the problems we had during our stay etc we thought 'fair enough'. It was only when the last member of our party checked out and got a bill £20 in excess of everyone else's that we all had to report back to reception to pay another £5 each! We normally go to Crieff or Dunblane Hydro and will in future - none of us plan a return visit to Peebles given our experience. (Please do not offer us a discount to return as you would be wasting your time) We all understood when booking that the hotel was going though a refurbishment (it needs it, the rooms while clean were really dated) but honestly this shouldn't have affected the customer service delivery! There appears to be a total lack of organisation and planning.

It would take a lot for me to go back to this one great hotel the room we where given was so run down that the paint was coming off the roof the window was all misted up the wardrobe was held shut with a piece of cardboard. I am sure once they spend money on this hotel it will be a great place to stay again

We had a lovely 2 days at the Peebles Hydro Hotel. The staff were very professional and extremely helpful and we enjoyed our dinner in the newly refurbished dining room. We appreciate that the owners are upgrading the hotel as our room, although had a lovely view, was tired and needing upgraded. The bed and linen has been upgraded overall in the hotel and the bed was very comfy. We loved the new gin palace too.

Lovely staff and really appreciated the upgrade for our anniversary and the chocolate strawberries and card in the suite. Also special thanks for fixing my puncture which I discovered just as we about to head of on our cycle trip home.

Had a great couple of days at the Hotel. Lovely room (212) which has been recently decorated and also has a new TV. Lovely room at the front of the hotel with great views. Very comfortable huge bed. Made use of the swimming pool ans sauna. On going redecoration taking place within some of the hotel bedrooms but didn't impact on our stay. Had an afternoon tea when we first arrived and the service and food was a 10. Evening meal service was a bit slow and the food was okay but nothing spectacular.

A very disappointing stay at this hotel. It was very sad and dowdy. When we first checked in, we were given a room that had a television that did not work. This fault was known by the hotel staff and they rather grudgingly offered us another room. Apart from the TV not working, the tap on the sink was faulty and looked as if it had been attacked with a hammer. the toilet had difficulty flushing and as a result we were glad to move to another room. We found the other room (with no help from the staff) and it wasn`t much better. Stained carpets, tatty paint work, bathroom curtain was hanging at an angle of about 45 degrees, and the water in the toilet ran permanently and was difficult to flush. The dining room was like a works canteen and the food was pretty bad, the bar facil were very poor and did not come up to the standard I had expected of such an iconic hotel. When I went to read the paper-work that was on the dressing table, this was all grubby and the "how did we do" form that I filled in was all stained with coffee or tea from a previous occupant. On a slightly more positive note, the leisure centre looked very nice although I didn`t use it. When I met some local people in Peebles, they expressed some surprise, that we were staying at the Hydro as apparently it does not enjoy a good reputation locally. I will never be back!

The room was nice, but could have done with a coat of paint. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was fine. The staff at reception were pleasant. Breakfast was poor for choice and food was bland. Menu for evening meal was very limited so we opted to eat out. Interaction with staff in dining room was limited as it was a buffet.

We were abit worried about the visit after reading some of the reviews but were.very happy with the Hotel, all staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and service excellent. I found a plastic lid in my soup but it wont put me off eating here again. The hotel is under refurbishment and hopefully we will be back to stay again when its complete.

Our room was lovely and we were happy with the facil but unfortunately the evening meal on Saay was inedible when we told the maitre de he mumbled something about getting something taken off our bill but as he didn't know our room number that wasn't going to happen when we were leaving the restaurant the restaurant manager came up to us to say chef would buy us a drink as an apology which we refused as a free drink does not make up for our evening being ruined by a badly cooked meal!! Also when we checked out on Sunday morning the receptionist was very ignorant she did not enquire if we enjoyed our stay her only words to us were "do you have your card? " she barely lifted her head! I have emailed the manager but have had no response.
