Barony Castle Hotel, Peebles

i had pre-ordered flowers and a basket of fruit this was not supplied by the hotel. they did apologise and gave a complimentary wine but only offered one kind take it or leave it. This was my daughters Christmas present. I felt disappointed. They said some of the food not up to much for instance the Caesar salad. also very few staff on duty to ask about the hotel or find out places of interest.

Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Attentive staff. The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable. We also visited the pool and spa which was lovely. Our evening meal in the restaurant was delicious with fantastic service. The only thing that let this great hotel down was when they served real bacon with my vegetarian breakfast, then proceeded just to remove the bacon and reserve the breakfast (bacon grease and all), also disappointed with the tinned mushrooms. Would definitely visit barony castle again I would perhaps just have the cereal for breakfast though.

A bit disappointing booked this for my daughters 30th birthday surprise and I think it was the hotel who got the surprise ! I had booked a superior room but the hotel allocated a standard room this was rectified after going back to reception, then there was no wine in the room which was also part of the package we purchased again this had to be pointed out and they also charged them more than the deal which again was pointed out and rectified. They informed me the food was delicious and the staff were lovely unfortunately the other thing let it down.

Many areas of the hotel were cold. We had a 45 minute wait for our dessert as the order had not ben put through but we asked for and got complimentary tea and coffee. Staff were friendly. We felt that the hotel was in need of being 'spruced up' but overall we had a pleasant stay.

as the hotel was fully booked at this festive season I know resources would be stretched but I think the rooms could have been cleaner. bit disappointed in the leisure facilities, the pool was small and quite cold as was the sauna.

we were a bit disappointed with room servicing we went out for day and returned at 4.15pm to our room and it had never been touched,no bed made or anything.menu for dinner could have had more choices,we tended to find our meal was very rushed no sooner was plates taken away from one course and the next was served

I have stayed in the Barony a number of times. It is not as good as it once was but is still a good value break.

3 day stay 1st to 3rd January, the hotel is in a lovely setting I think it would be beautiful in spring and summer. The hotel its self is a bit tired and needs a refresh - however it was decent. The room we has was a upgrade "privileged room. The room itself was ok, however there were cobwebs on the calling & a broken light in the bathroom. The food was decent and not too bad a choice. The staff were extremely helpful and very plesent.

Very disappointing due to fact that the dinner menu was extremely poor, and we could see that most of the other people at the other tables also complained. The Restaurant Manager was very apologetic and a super chap and went some way to retaining our goodwill by waiving the charge for my dessert, and providing a free drink each to my wife and I, however I believe the hotel management made a serious error of judgment in allowing this poor menu to be offered. It may be because there was a wedding on at the same time that the kitchen cannot cope with satisfactory dinner fare for the other guests. All other aspects about our stay (including the breakfast)were satisfactory and up to the standard we expected.

Fantastic looking building. Bedrooms were a little on the 'tired' side - but perfectly functional and very comfortable. Food was of a very good standard. Staff were very helpful and professional. Very enjoyable stay. Thank you.

On plus side hotel location was good & was very clean & tidy. Staff were exceptionally friendly & helpful. On the minus side the diner menu was the same for both nights of our stay which was a little disappointing. Although this hotel is not covered by "best available room" (which I must admit I overlooked when booking) we felt that as there was a less than 25% occupancy on both nights we were allocated a standard room which although adequate was a bit on the small side so an upgrade would have been a nice gesture. That being said we still enjoyed our break.

Suggest removing plastic sauce bottles on the tables in the bar area - looks like a Little Chef. They can always be brought to the table when required!
