On arrival the reception was very busy, probably because of the bank holiday. We were allocated our room (202) when we got to our room the room had not been cleaned, other people on our floor were also finding the this. The room on the front (202) was nice as we had stayed there two years ago. So I new that there was no bedside cabinet on one side of the bed. I was a bit disappointing to find the bath panel was still cracked and had not been replaced after two years. The light above the mirror was not working in the bathroom. As we were only staying one night it was not worth making a fuss, as all we wanted to do was relax.

Beautiful location, welcoming and clean. Reception were very quick to rectify initial problem of not actually being booked in!!!!! Not sure what went wrong but pleased I had my booking reference. Spa and pool were great, bar in afternoon welcoming. In the evening music was switched off and atmosphere wasn't so inviting. Would have been a great stay if it hadn't been for the very slow service in the restaurant, resulting in having to ask for our drinks order several times, this unfortunately was repeated in the morning at breakfast as we were not asked if we wanted tea or coffee until after finishing our meal I managed to track down a waitress and ask for coffee after being ignored several times while they were serving other tables despite us arriving first. Staff very apologetic stating they were short staffed and extra busy . Heading back here at the end of June, initially considered cancelling but liked the location and hotel so have decided to give the benefit of doubt and have another visit, hoping next review will be great!!!!!

We have stayed at this time around 5 times over the last few years and have found the location to Peebles (and Stobo Castle) to be great. It has recently been taken over by Mercure (formerly Devere). The reception and barr/restaurant staff were fantasic and we loved the revamped swimming pool area. The rooms themselves didn't look different - so no much refubishment had happened. We did however find that the rooms were not that clean - and specifically asked to have our toilet given special attention. When we returned later in the day it had not been done and the maid had been in. There were still crumbs on the carpet from my nephew eating crisps and the toilet had still not been cleaned where we asked. I ended up having to do this myself with face wipes. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. Special thanks go to the reception staff and also to Alex in the restaurant.

Wonderful location in the Scottish Borders! Every single member of staff from Reception to dining room to domestic staff was polite, friendly, welcoming and helpful! Not for those who like the shiny modern building - although there are up to date additions. Such as the Spa etc. - but definitely for people like us who just love the character and history attached to the castle itself and to the village and area. We only stayed one night on an amazing value deal, but would love to have stayed longer.

Had a pleasant stay here, spa and changing rooms were very small considering the size of the hotel. Room was standard and didnt offer upgrades at desk like others. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was the best part of the stay ... And the cocktails!

I would like to thank all staff at barony castle for a fantastic weekend, there was only one fault the bar ran out of alot of there spirits which our party of 14 were drinking apart from that we all had a fab time and we would go back.

Apart from the carpets showing some signs of wear and the creaky floors in the corridors the hotel is in fairly good shape. "The food and the service were excellent". The only fault I could comment on was the maid service. When we checked in the biscuits provided for the tea in the room had been opened by the previous occupant and hadn't been replaced when the room was made up. The half eaten packet was still on the plate along with the empty coffee sachets. When we informed reception about this it was rectified while we were at dinner. Unfortunately the open pack of biscuits was not removed. Also we took a drink upstairs as a nightcap and the following morning when the room was made up the empty glasses were left in the room and once again the tea coffee and biscuits wasn't replenished. Maybe some extra training for the room staff is required. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return and we will have no hesitation recommending the hotel to friends.

We had a fantastic stay at Barony Castle last week, the staff were great, very polite and helpful. The food was lovely and the Eddleston Suite was amazing. We couldn't fault anything during our stay there and would definately recomend the venue to others. We will be returning there in the next couple of months it was that good. Many thanks you for everything Sam & Ian Perry

The only downside was the fact there is very limited seating in the lounge for the size of the hotel and the bar staff after dinner were maxed out when two coach parties were wanting to order drinks. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Very impressed by hotel in general. In particular the staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly. All members from housemaids to managers greeted you with a 'Good morning' or equivalent when you passed them.

WE had a nice relaxing stay at Barony Castle, with good food,a nice clean room and a comfy bed. Although they were very busy with two coach trips, all our needs were met by friendly staff. This was our second stay at Barony Castle and we have no problem in returning in the future for another stay.

The hotel was clean, warm, friendly and excellent food but it is listed as Barony Castle, Peebles and is in fact about 5 miles from Peebles and then up a long incline to the entrance which made it a bit remote and too far to walk to the town

Enjoyed our stay, all staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Only drawback was public lounge area did not have enough seating for everyone in the evenings after dinner and the conservatory had been emptied out and had No seats this time!!!Pity to use the lovely conservatory as a corridor as it was so nice to sit in there with a drink before.
