Barony Castle Hotel, Peebles

We were a bit disappointed with the size of the room as It was quite small. However the location, the friendly staff and the quality of the food more than made up for this. We did not get a chance to use the facilities this visit but we certainly will the next time we book.

We visited this April and found that staff were warm welcoming and naturally friendly. The hotel is in an excellent location - peaceful but with many places to visit nearby. The hotel has lots of walks and is in a picturesque location. The hotel was very clean, warm, and of beautiful modern yet traditional decor. We felt very at home in the lounge, bar and garden areas. The pool was small but the additional facilities make up for this - water jets to massage those achy muscles, spa bath, sauna and heated loungers. Bedroom was of a good standard and had everything we would want and need. Power showers was excellent. We had a family room. The food!!! Mmmm we had the joy of experiencing the first night of the new menu.There was something for everyone, infact I struggled to choose! I would recommend the Bang Bang Chicken it was divine. The only problem was the wait - the atmosphere is set for fine dining, however the waiting times between starter and main meal was too long [1hour 45minutes for two courses], this resulted in us not having a sweet course. Staff were excellent though.Breakfast was a wide variety of continental and cooked scottish buffet style, with the option of ordering for no additional cost - kippers, eggs benedict, porridge etc. Superb! All in all we would recommend this hotel for couples and families with children if they are looking for a relaxed break in beautiful relaxed and welcoming surroundings. We had visited some 5 years ago and recalled having the best fillet steak we have ever experienced. We will be returning much sooner :O)

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel,service faultless,they all work hard.Bedroom nice but the mattress is so hard I had pins and needles the 1st night,second night I got extra pillows and tried to sleep on them ,it was better,grounds nice for a stroll.

Enjoyed stay and would recommend this Hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly.Swimming pool, sauna small but okay. Food was excellent. Grounds were lovely.Bedroom was nice but would have prefered one with a better view hopefully next time as will visit again.

Love this place! We have been going here for a number of years now and it's still one of my favourite places to stay. The staff are all lovely and welcoming and the new owners have made some improvements. The hotel has lovely grounds to explore and is a ten minute drive to Peebles where there are a variety of local shops. The only negative point I would say is check if there. Is a wedding on as. It can be quite busy and noisy and you can be overlooked at bar etc. saying that we have stayed when there's been weddings on its a beautiful location for a wedding. The rooms are ok but I believe being refurbished, we have stayed in all parts of this hotel and yes the floorboards do creak in the older part but that's to be expected. We had a great night here at Easter only wish we had been for two nights but unfortunately it was fully booked! We will be back as we try and stay at least once a year and have always had a lovely experience.

We had a lovely stay at Barony Castle this week, from the minute we checked in we were made to feel very welcome and we were very impressed with all staff, restaurant food is of high quality with excellent menu and fantastic choice at breakfast. Rooms are good size and have very comfortable beds, lovely friendly housekeeper. Nice pool with steam room, jacuzzi, fragrant showers and 2 tiled heated beds which are very relaxing, however there is a lack of places to hang towels/ gowns and all it would need are a few hooks and possibly a small table and chairs in the corner. Hotel interior is modern and stylish and outside lovely grounds for a walk. We would highly recommend this hotel .

Rooms, food and drink were all fine. Floorboards in priviledged rooms were disgraceful and when guests in neighbouring rooms were up during the night you get woken by the noise ... this is unacceptable even in an old castle!

Good two days in Hotel. Restaurant excellent. Only down side was leisure pool - lockers flimsy few available keys, changing room was extremely cold with open electrical sockets. Staff in spa area were not very helpful in relation to leisure pool questions.

fantastic break.food was excelent and staff always helpfull and friendly,there new spa facilities are great but we have visited this hotel around 10 times and we find the pool and jaccusi very cold which is vert disapointing so we spend most time in sauna.

Had a good stay, food was great and service was very good, with all staff being very attentive. There was a wedding when we stayed which was pretty noisy and left us unable to spend time in small bar area. People talking about the place being haunted was also an issue! One thing to note is that the lockers at the pool area are not secure and I would advise not to leave any valuables or room keys in them as the panels at the back are not fitted and as lockers are not fixed to the wall can be easily accessed by others even when locked. All in all had a pleasant stay, the staff and dinner were the highlights for me.

our stay was not the best weve had , bar prices were too expensive also the refurb of the pool / changing area was not finished and we were not informed there was a delay. On website it stated complete by 8th march this was not the case. A wedding was taken place & it completely took over the lounge/bar area.Feel let down by classic britain.

Very disappointing. I had booked this as a birthday treat for my partner, but lots of little issues combined to make for unhappy experience. Condensation on bedroom windows, faulty toilet seat,noise from heating system. No towels in leisure centre, no water for coals in sauna, poolside water cooler not working. Hair found in breakfast. No choice about dinner time - on arrival we were told what time we had to dine. These factors not acceptable even from a small B&B, far less a hotel belonging to an established chain.

Food good, but due to a wedding waited 40 for starter which arrived cold (Cullen Skink - not pleasant cold), waited another 30 minutes for main course - meat warm, veggies stone cold. Chef sent his apologies - very big of him!!!!

Enjoyed the break. Hotel staff are friendly, professional and helpful. Beautiful grounds and walks. Swimming pool a bonus. No complaints. A wider range of beers would have been appreciated.
