First o received an email on Friday 5 February to make us aware that a state of the art kitchen was being fitted 8-11 February and it would be self service food - not a good start. Arrived at 2.10pm - room not ready.- ordered drinks and sandwiches - 3.10pm still no sandwiches!! My husband went to get more drinks and asked where the sandwiches were. Full of apologies, which is fine - another person then came and asked if we had our sandwiches yet, which we hadn't. Another lady arrived with the sandwiches and said that she would get us a refund, which she did. My white bread was definitely not fresh, like it had been lying waiting for an hour, which clearly it had!! Dinner was fine, except the dining room is like a school dinner hall!! Lots of children running about at night time!! I didn't have breakfast, husband did, said it was fine. You can tell what parts of the hotel have been done up and which parts haven't been. We definitely thought, after everything we have heard about peebles hro, that it is very overrated - won't be hurrying back soon.

We were disappointed with our evening meal in the hotel. A few days before we were due to go we were informed that the kitchens would be closed for refurbishment during our stay. Instead of the normal evening menu there would be a buffet and carvery. In the event there was no carvery and the vegetables at the buffet were cold as they allowed the heaters to go out. The pasta dish was dried up. There were no staff monitoring the buffet and filling up the trays as they emptied. In the morning the porridge was stone cold. The first room we were given has a cracked sink and had been used by smokers. There is a lot of refurbishment going on and no doubt the hotel will be good in time but meanwhile I would give it a miss.

Hotel undergoing refurbishment at the moment which is really needed, our room was large with new beds and bedding, huge bathroom, but had horrible plastic shower curtain. Furniture was modern apart from two armchairs which I am sure must have came from Noahs ark! Staff were all very welcoming and helpful! Breakfast was the usual buffet style, if you came away gry it was your own fault! The hotel had activ going on all day and entertainment at night! There was a lovely swimming pool and I treated myself to an Indian Head Massage in the Spa, which was AMAZING!! Hotel is a five minute walk downhill into Peebles itself where we went to eat out at night as there are a few nice places! All in all we had a lovely stay here and think once the refrefurbishments are finished this hotel will be Amazing, but for how little we paid its well worth a visit just now!

I was a bit disappointed in the room, on the booking form it stated that we would be assigned the best room available when we booked. Since I had booked over 4 months ago I was looking forward to something special. What we got was a basic, fairly tired looking room. Don't get me wrong it was clean, it looked out onto a roof and trees no view, was tucked away at the end of a corridor maybe I was expecting too much. The food was great, lovely breakfasts and the evening meal we had was really nice.

No longer a grand, luxury, up-market hotel - thanks to the interior designer! More suited to families, who seemed to be well catered for. The dining room would no longer be my choice for a celebration meal - more like a canteen! A pity, as the food was very good. Modernisation and refurbishment was certainly required, but not at the expense of character and elegance!

We have stayed here on several occasions and all in all the upgrades to the hotel that have been made are very good, the gin bar, they small bar in the lounge and little touches. However I was not happy with the changes in the dining room, gone is the piano, of the feeling of grandure, and instead it is like a school canteen, long wooden tables, not impressive at all. Overall our stay was very good as always, but let down with the dining room

The hotel is in disrepair and this is most evident in the bedrooms which are tired and over due a lick of paint. The welcome note does mention that the standard is below average of the new company that took over, and this is an understatement. In my opinion the hotel should close for however long is needed and reopen to its former glory!

Very pleasant staff. Hotel under refurb but we had a re allocation of room to get a walk in shower. It was so spacious. Although weather poor the hotel was warm and cosy. Used their pool which was warm and not too busy. Must recommend the afternoon tea!! Would go back agaon

The Hydro itself is huge and when you go in there is a feeling that it is a bit tired looking. Our room was lovely, huge bed, LCD TV etc but the bathroom wasn't great. However you then read the honest and frank letter that is left in each room where the owners (who also own Crieff Hydro) advise that they bought Peebles last year, they know there are lots of repairs to be done and they are quickly and systematically working their way through these and this is reflected in the price you pay. You then feel great, excellent customer service and the stay was superb. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet and was delicious.

The hotel is @ the moment carrying out some refurbishment and the work done is very good. The restaurant has been done to a very high standard, and they are clearly spending money on the refurbishment. The leisure facil are very good with a lovely swimming pool and the usual sauna & steam room which are kept up to a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance. The staff overall are very friendly and very obliging to ensure your stay is a good one, a credit to the hotel. The only minor gripe was the condition of the games room as the 2 days we were there the litter was never cleared and could clearly be seen lying on top of game tables. Overall we had a very nice stay and we will return again, we would also recommend the hotel for short breaks.

Our 1st visit to Peebles Hydro was very impressive. The service on arrival and throughout was great. The staff were fantastic, all very pleasant and helpful, especially reception staff helping us with information on places to see and what to do in the town. Our room was spotless and very comforable. The pool, sauna and steam room were fab. Breakfast was piping hot, plentiful and the restaurant staff were all very attentive. No complaints at all. We would defintely return. Compliments to all the lovely team for making us feel so welcome. Looking forward to trying out Creiff Hydro next.

First visit since the revamp. After initial shock of seeing the dining room transformed, I think it is a success. The furniture and cutlery and crockery are good quality and the decor is bright and fresh. The bistro menu is a good idea but the dishes did not live up to their name. It is a pity that they cannot produce good wholesome food. The management need to sit down, eat the food and find a way to improve it. It was great to see the hotel so busy. Seems to me the Leckie's know their business and I congratulate them in bringing new life into the hotel and a younger clientele and hope they prosper

Having enjoyed a stay at Peebles Hydro before it was taken over, this was a disappointing experience. Although the room (Room 60) was warm, clean and comfortable, the towel rail in the bathroom didn't work and the coating on the bath was flaking into sharp shards which could cause injury. The 'new-look' restaurant was unappealing and noisy due to the lack of sound deadening of the polished wooden floor. Furthermore, the dinner menu didn't change over our 2 night's stay and the service was appalling apparently due to lack of organisation. There was even a queue awaiting the toaster at breakfast time on our first morning!

We enjoyed our stay at Peebles Hydro. The hotel is clearly in a state of transition, but the owners have been up front about the ongoing changes, and are realistic about the condition of the rooms, which haven't yet started their upgrades. Staff were professional. pleasant and helpful, and overall our stay was better than we'd expect. I would advise anyone going to Peebles Hydro at the moment to have relatively low expectations of the bedrooms - they are dated and basic, but clean and comfortable - the owners have prioritised well by putting in new beds. One area that could be improved on quickly is the quality of the food - it was ok, but not great. Breakfast was basic, more suitable for a B&B than a hotel of this stature. Wouldn't take huge effort - but a wider range of quality cereals and breads would make the difference. Cooked food all good though, and staff very attentive. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone - but keep your expectations realistic given the state of flux!

Hotel in need of refurbishment sooner than 5 year existing plan. Carpets worn and threadbare in main stairs. Bedrooms need redecorated as do bathrooms. Poor choice at breakfast compared to Crieff Hydro. Dining room was out of character with hotel and dinner was a waste of money. Chips cold as was chicken and wedges. Got chips replaced with fresh onrs but chicken and wedges were heated up in microwave making it chewy, dry and inedible. Leisure facilities excellent. Would not be in hurry to return although still good value fir
