A VERY PLEASANT HOTEL IN A LOVELY SETTING AND WITH A FABULOUS GOLF COURSE. THE STAY WAS MARRED ONLY BY SOME OF THE FOOD BEING OF A LITTLE LESSER QUALITY THAN MIGHT BE EXPECTED (EG. BACON AT BREAKFAST DRIED OUT, AND THE COFFEE BEING OF INDIFFERENT QUALITY), AND WITH ONE SURLY WAITER IN THE DINING ROOM. BUT THE STAY WAS NEVERTHELESS AN ENJOYABLE ONE AND WE WILL BE RETURNING.

really enjoyed the stay, lovely hotel but I have a few comments. breakfast was a bit chaotic. Plates of food were offered to guestes but it wasnt what they ordered, my partner ordered black pudding but there wasnt any on his plate, but we didnt want to send it back because we didnt know how long we would have to wait for another plate. Food quality good but potions could be a little larger. re bedrooms, please get rid of the yellow cellular blankets, they are so out of date. the rooms could maybe be updated but did not spoil the weekend. The surrounding area was lovely.

Super hotel. We had the golf course to ourselves the first day and only saw a few players on our second day.

Very disappointing as it was to be a treat for a birthday. At dinner there was no vegetables with the main, and when I asked why, I was told if I wanted veg. I should have asked!!! There were no BBC channels on the TV as the aerial socket had been bypassed and taped to the TV aerial. When I went to reception to complain there was no one there and no bell.

Loved our stay here, with my sister and her husband, we have fond memories of the hotel as our uncle owned it from 1944-1961, I got married here, and it remains like a familiar friend to me!

Our first visit here, and it was most enjoyable. The spacious public rooms are very comfortable . We enjoyed excellent service from all the staff. Our bedroom had a view across the lake and golf course and was vast and most comfortable. There was an excellent choice at the 4 course dinner, followed by coffee and petit fours in the lounges - an excellent way to finish.

The staff were friendly, efficient and genuinely interested in what you did during the day. Even the youngest members had a personality when it came to dealing with guests. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had an overnight stay in Cally Palace which was excellent value. Hotel was old but in good condition and everything was great. We were celebrating an anniversary and we had a lovely time

Very pleasant stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was truly amazing - huge and luxurious as well as spotless!! leisure facilities were excellent and the only slight downside was the dining experience - food ok but menu not clear - it was laid out as if the soup course did not have to be ordered - not a choice. We only realised that wasn't the case when they removed the soup spoons!! Also it didn't give an option of ordering veg - but there was very little on the plate and several guests asked for veg - which the staff happily provided - but said we should have ordered it - although there was no indication of this option on menu. Food and service were OK - not up to the standard you would expect for a hotel like that. Staff could maybe do with a bit of training - although they were all very polite and helpful. Entertainment during dining provided by a very poor pianist !!

The short break was exactly what we were looking for, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful and the food was excellent. The hotel and the bedroom were of a high standard throughout and whilst there were little things that were looking slightly tired and needing some attention, these in no way took away from our enjoyment of the weekend break. I would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.

We had a lovely, last minute peaceful break at Cally Palace Hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. The banter was good with some of the bar staff too. Some characters to behold! Compliments to the chef and the waiting on staff. The whole dining experience was certainly value for money and a real pleasure. We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds. We admired the architect and design of the 'Palace'. What a treat to pass a stream of old vintage cars. Some of the owners were dressed in vintage clothing too. We headed for Kirkcudbright to discover the Rally was setting off officially at 2pm. We were able to look at more cars up close. Then we hit upon the fabulous Art Exhibition depicting the story of 'Tom O'Shanty' by the Artist Goudie. That was an interesting and entertaining event too. All spur of the moment! Just by chance we saw a TV programme about witches at home. It was Goudies son hosting the show and he discussed the fascination his father had with his 'witch' character. We got to see the paintings again. However, it felt more special that we saw the actual exhibition for real. It just goes to show that booking a place last minute can really pay off. We loved the view from our room. We liaised with interesting characters and we would recommend the hotel to everyone out there. It was a peaceful, value for money retreat. Very nice and very relaxing. Staff very helpful and accommodating. At first thought the decor and furnishings were dated, but these added character to the surroundings.

The hotel caters mainly for mature and golfing persons. There are family activities - putting, tennis, pool table, billiards, table tennis. The jacket and tie for dinner are indicators of expected visitors. The family bedroom was quite large with balcony. The turning down of bedding at night was surprise and the room attendants made beds while at breakfast - they were very discreet. The swimming pool, sauna and gym area was good (the temperature of the spa pool could be reduced by some degrees). The breakfast was excellent as was dinner (a hiccup in the kitchen caused increased waiting time for main course on one night only with impact on service - a suggestion would be that the hotel should consider how to reduce this eg by having sorbet on standby as a filler and assist staff and service). The quality of food was excellent. The staff were very good and helpful. This is an excellent location for walking, sight seeing, outdoor activities (horse fly is present in forestry during summer months).

I did not know that I had to wear a jacket and tie for dinner. You should have advised me of this. I had to borrow a jacket and tie from the hotel which was not very satisfactory.
