Very very disappointed with our stay at the Peebles Hydro hotel. Bedroom was horrible, bathroom was unclean and smelled of pee. Service in restaurant was poor, we were attended to by at least 5 different people, none of our requests were met such as asking for more water, ketchup etc and the food was abysmal, Fries were rock solid as they had been over cooked, the fat was oozing out them. Breakfast was much the same, as if everything had been cooked in a deep fat fryer. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Receptionist was very helpful, even upgrading booking to a suite as our break was a birthday celebration. What then followed was a delivery of chocolate coated strawberries on a happy birthday plate. Excellent service and accommodation. Dinner ok. Sadly, some of the furniture included in refurbished public areas, such as dining room and sun lounge, is basic, uncomfortable and not in keeping with the beautiful building. Trish.

Had a wonderful 2 night stay at Peebles Hydro. As it wad my husband's birthday we were given a free room upgrade to a beautiful family room with gorgeous views. Also the Hotel placed a birthday card with beautifully presented hand made chocolate covered fresh strawberries in room on arrival. A wonderful touch Hsve already booked to go back with friends on 30 January, 2016

Stayed here for the weekend and I'm afraid we won't stay here again. It seriously needs all overhauled. The rooms are very old fashioned the outside windows are filthy. The shower is an absolute joke. The whole hotel is cold most of the day and night. The food isn't too bad but we waited over an hour between our starter and main course to come out. The staff are all very nice but are seriously understaffed. We had to ask for toilet roll to be delivered to our room as it wasn't replaced from when the staff came into clean our room. So I'm afraid I would not recommend this hotel.

Very Good, Obviously a bit run down in some rooms but can be seen that changes are been made. Overall very enjoyable and good valve for money. will definatly go back if cost dosen't rise too much with improvements.

When we arrived at the hotel, we struggled to park the car anywhere near the door due to volume of cars (wedding guests). When we checked in we were advised the earliest time for dinner was 8:30pm which is rather late. We thought we would kill time before our meal with a drink at "The Cocktail Lounge" which in actual fact was closed. The "Gin Bar" was solely being used for the wedding that was on, which resulted in the one bar left being used by not only hotel guests, but by all of the wedding guests too! A 25 minute stand in a queue for one drink! We then went for our meal in the practically empty dining room, to be shown to a table with only one chair (there was 2 of us!) There was water on the table however no water glasses. We had to ask for these. We were never offered another drink. The dinner we had was very salty and tasteless. We were sat next to the waste food table where throughout our meal all the left over food was scraped onto and left. This being very off putting whilst trying to eat. After eating a disgusting meal we headed back to our room, squeezing past the wedding guests who were still over spilled into the reception area and still at least 5 deep at the bar. Our room was very dated and unkempt. Dusty headboard, cracked bath panel and what can only be described as a wasp infestation in the light fitting above the bed! Some of which alive and crawling around! In the morning we found another live wasp in the bathroom. Desperate to get out of our room now, we discovered we had no running water- bath, shower or sink. On phoning reception we were told to wait for an engineer. We looked forward to a night away and were utterly disappointed. We left the hotel with no breakfast, and no shower. We complained to the manager on leaving to be told "you have caught us with our pants down". We are extremely upset about our "gift experience" and would like to have an explanation as to why and what will be done about this horrendous stay?

We enjoyed our stay bedroom was okay if a bit small and bathroom was spotless. The breakfast was fine and food fresh. The restaurant was laid out like a school dinner hall and the menu was a laminated page which reminded us of a pub.We wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer as the menu is fixed no matter how long you stay. Also drinks are expensive.

Need some work doing with service in dining room. The wait was unbelievable, booked dinner for 7.30 and still there at 9.45. Given free drinks but just as well we were not going anywhere after dinner. Otherwise the room was lovely and most people were very friendly. Could be doing with some entertainment after dinner as it is quite a walk into town and very dark, most people sat in lounge and one by one went off to,their room. No atmosphere.

Excellent nights stay, Great room with fabulous view, excellent food. Biggest indoor pool we have had . When you also have, tennis, 18 hole putting green, 9 hole pitch & putt, all free with the hotel its make staying here so enjoyable. The only thing we didn't like was .the restaurant(more a canteen look)

The Hydro was OK but not not great. Needing some investment and refurbishment. Lovely grounds, helpful staff, big bright bedroom, nice swimming pool (although changing rooms are very dated), but dinner was a bit disappointing. Menu choice wasn't great and the set up felt a little like a large school or college refectory with no atmosphere or warmth.

On arrival the man on reception was very friendly ,room was clean enough but very much in need of an upgrade the bed was hard and the springs were coming through decided to let it go on the first and second night but after waking up on the third day I was in absolute agony as was my partner went down to reception and spoke to the man who was very helpful he couldn't.change us rooms as the hotel was full he said that he would get us another mattress and a topper which he did but made no difference ,he came up to room 322 and felt it himself and he agreed,we had no choice but to pack up our things to leave,by this time it was 4pm. Spoke with manager Michelle who offered to organise a half way stop for us as we were very tired and in a lot of pain, which I thought was very nice of her,we were led to believe that this for for free for all the inconvenience and having to leave Peebles which we didn't want to do but then she said that they would knock

this was meant to be a quiet weekend break for a special birthday surprise but on Saturday a party from Italy of about 100 guests turn up and took over the hotel the other guests and ourselves were totally forgotten about. Our meals were 1 hour late there were kids running all over the place it was total mayhem We should have been informed about this when we booked as this party book this hotel every year Our weekend was completely ruined along with several other guests who complained as well I FEEL WE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED AFTER SPENDING A LOT OF HARD EARNED CASH ON THIS WEEKEND

Peebles Hydro is in the process of an update. Therefore with the exception of the huge muddle with room allocation on arrival, I have no complaints! I know we were not alone in the room mix up and the hotel was very busy with a wedding etc. Briefly - I had booked 4 double rooms and 1 twin room ( for our teenage grand daughters.} My husband and I arrived first of our party of 10, about 2.45pm and were shown to the twin room. when I asked at reception if there was more than one twin it was confirmed that was the only one. after some discussion we managed to swap the twin room for the one which they had allocated to the girls. However when my son arrived he was allocated a large room with a large bed AND some chocolates and a card wishing him a happy 70th Birthday ( he is 35!! ) We assumed that this was the room intended for my husband and me! We,as a family, found the whole thing quite amusing, but I did overhear other guests who were quite annoyed at not getting the rooms that they expected. I was,as usual, quite delighted with the service from Classic Britain but I thought you may appreciate my comments. Thank you again and I hope to continue using your organisation. sincerely, D. Osler

Unfortunately the food served in the dining room was very poor & the time between courses was too long. The fridge in the bar was broken so the bottled beer was warm. The snooker tables need new pockets & cues. The staff were lovely & apologised in response to our complaints.

Stayed at hydro four occasion before. Room, service, food and facilities been fab. Not however on this occasion. New management, hotel in middle of revamp. Room poor so had to upgrade. Service chaotic with long wait for everything. Meals very poor quality and so bad had to complain twice over. Management gave discount but this not the only answer. Would now give second thought to any future vist as so disappointed with systems that made the work for staff extra hard. It would seem hotel opened too soon as issues arose with computer for check in, then for room door access and next again day with alarm system. This all a massive shame as hotel got great character with good leisure facilities and located in wonderful elevated position over looking valley.
