We had an enjoyable stay at Stonefield Castle and a long walk in the extensive grounds. Our room was clean and spacious with a huge bed and a water view. The dining room has a wonderful outlook with the opportunity for birdwatching while you dine! Food is excellent, well presented and freshly cooked.Certainly worth a visit.

If you want to go somewhere special, Stonefield Castle ticks all the boxes. My girlfriend and I spent 3 days and 2 nights at Stonefield, and to be honest we could have easily stayed much longer. The hotel itself is really impressive on the outside when you approach up the half mile wooded driveway. At check-in, we were taken a short tour to see the main public areas and then taken to our room. There is a lift for those with any problems with stairs. The rooms dont seem to lack space, storage or comfort. The bathroom we had was really spacious and warm. If I was to be picky, it could do with a little tlc and slightly more modern features, but again that is being picky. Every public room was tastefully decorated and in keeping with the building itself. The furnishings were great and very comfortable. The restaurant has held its AA Rosette since 2004 I think, and I definately understand the reasons why. It was a culinary experience, and being a foody, I was not disappointed. From the freshest fish and shellfish, to steak and duck, there was definately something for everyone and cooked to perfection. Every member of the restaurant staff should be commended for the flawless service that they provide, along with the casual chat if you wanted to. The views over Loch Fyne are to die for from the restaurant which adds to the dining experience. During the day, you can sit in the library, bar area or if its nice outside, on the patio area to relax. There are also lovely walks through the woodland and around the wee island thats sits out from the hotel. This is a hotel that I highly recommend and a prime choice if you literally want to get away from it all. Peaceful and tranquil break. Enjoy John 36, Lindsay 28

The grounds of the hotel are lovely as is the situation but unfortunately the rooms are very, very tired, desperately in need of refurbishment.Staff are excellent, very friendly and happy to help and are a credit to the hotel.

Restuarant food was average. My cooked breakfast was cold, sent back and after a short while another, hot breakfast was served. Bar menu much nicer.

We enjoyed a 2 night dbb stay which was very good value for money. Food and service were both excellent, the views from the dining room were fantastic and we had coffee after dinner relaxing by the log fire. We also enjoyed the many walks around the grounds using the handy map given to us by the receptionist. The only complaint would be that the bedroom could do with being redecorated and the bath tap was loose and dripping. We would definitely go back again.

If you are looking for a 19th. century castle in pristine condition this is not it. These places cost an arm and a leg to maintain and on the prices the hotel charges this would be difficult. If you are looking for a comfortable atmospheric stay with great friendly service, a proper welcome(including from Fudge the dog),superb views and good food then this is the place. The bar, drawing room and library are tremendous rooms, well kept and comfortably relaxing. Understandably there are some knocks and scrapes in other parts but still a great place. Fine gardens for wandering.

Just our cup of tea - staff helpful and efficient, location superb and hotel nicely old-fashioned and comfortable. Food adventurous and successful. Very good wine list. A great experience and Fudge, their chocolate Labrador, is the real star!

The Hotel, staff and description were as expected the public areas were opulent and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The food was out of this world. The experience was let down by the bed room I had wanted to upgrade to a superior room, but the one I wanted was not available so we opted for a loch view. The room was clean well appointed and comfortable but was in the 1970s extension and I don't think it had been upgraded since then. It took the edge off our anniversary. If we had had a room in the main castle it would no doubt have had original plaster work cornice and style more fitting the rest of the hotel. I would return, but would make sure my room was in the main hotel if a superior room was unavailable.
