We enjoyed our stay at Fernhill Hotel and as you will see below we appreciated the quality of our room which was first class, the service which was good and the food which we liked very much. The one problem we encountered, about which we spoke to the staff, was the way in which teas and coffees were served at breakfast from a slow-performing multi-drink dispenser which took a long time to dispense to fill our tea cups and some time spent in queuing while our cooked breakfast cooled.

We had a lovely overnight stay and would love to go back. This hotel was perfect for the dog- she had an excellent time. The room was huge and absolutely spotless. The food was great and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a great wee break here. It was rather quiet with it being mid November. We were given a room upgrade. Balcony room and lovely view over Portpatrick. Comfy big bed. A bath! All staff were super. The dinners and breakfast were good.

We booked a wonderful old style large room with a large bathroom, great views over the village and harbour from the bay window. All staff members were friendly and helpful, first night we ate in the restaurant and had a nice salmon dish. Hot breakfast dishes were served freshly cooked and not dried up like in a buffet style.

The hotel is in a good location, and the room large and comfortable but need modernizing especially the bathroom not a 4.5-star hotel more 3.5-star food in the dining room is disappointing.

The hotel is rather dated and tired. However the room was huge with a very large, comfortable bed and a stunning sea view. The bathroom was rather sightly but had a good powerful shower. Staff members are extremely pleasant and helpfull however we were disappointed with our dinner. My husband had the steak and ale pie that was definitely not home made and my pork fillet was overcooked. Both main meals lacked seasoning. Therefore we ate elsewhere on our second night. Breakfast each morning was enjoyable. We loved Portpatrick and when we return we will stay at the Fernhill again, if there is availability, but just wouldn't have dinner.

We were in a twin "garden" room...another building beside the main hotel...ok, with our dogs, but was no secured garden and so we blocked it up ourselves with chairs and wood found around corner of building. No dog waste bins provided. Rooms could benefit from some modernising but were comfortable and clean enough. Food in restaurant was average, tho presentation good. But couldn't knock the value for money offer we booked under!

On initial check in, the hotel was modern and well furnished, however the room was a different story, we were given an annexe room away from the main hotel, eventually found the entrance by slipping through a small gap between the buildings only to be greeted by a staff member lying down with his phone at the front of our room, I appreciate staff may be on their break, however this didn’t give the right impression at all and led me to believe the annex also doubled as staff quarters! The cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired, thick dust on the table, dead flies on the window sill and three empty wrapping papers at the side of the bed from a previous occupant, clearly whoever cleaned the room didn’t touch anything you can’t see, the mattresses were springy, and poor quality, as were the pillows, leading to a very poor nights sleep. On a positive note the staff were pleasant and helpful, taking the time to chat when they could and our meal in the restaurant was very enjoyable, however I would be reluctant to stay again.

Hotel room very tired looking. Ripped armchair and lots of black mould on bathroom ceiling. Room was clean though and staff were lovely. Food was average but beautifully presented. Dining room and conservatory were lovely and bright.

A nice hotel with a great location in Port Patrick. Staff were friendly. Our booking confirmation indicated a check in time of 2pm but unfortunately our room wasn’t ready at 2pm. We had booked for dinner, bed and breakfast. Along with other guests we had a long wait (over an hour) for our main course at dinner time, with no apology/explanation from staff. The food when it arrived was a bit disappointing. Rather than having another lengthy wait we decided against having dessert. Breakfast was fine - a good selection of cereals etc - cooked food made to order rather than buffet.

Had a great time at this hotel. What makes this hotel is the staff. Everyone of them is excellent. Yes the hotel is a bit rough around the edges and needs a little tlc but it is very clean. The food is excellent as well. Only negative is maybe they could invest in better bedding especially pillows.

Stayed for two nights, dinner on both nights was superb, but breakfasts were very disappointing. Presentation especially. Room was pleasant and clean, but just a sheet on top of a zipped bed, no undersheet or mattress protector, no spare pillows etc. Tea and coffee making facilities very sp. No hotel literature or welcoming folder, just small things which could make the room a little more special were missing - maybe thats why its 3 star rated but with 5 star prices.

Superb food with good choice. Staff competant & efficient. Only criticism is minor tweaks needed liquid soap in bathroom inadequate for stay, need to notify housekeeping if room servicing necessary instead of automatic servicing. Hospitality tray in bedroom had no milk, biscuits.

Very Very nice stay. Room was very nice the staff so very keen to please. Food was so good and the menu varied to suit all tastes. Looking forward to staying again when the right offer comes on to suit my budget as this one did. GREAT

We had a wonderful time at this hotel, the hotel was spotless, the room was large and had a lovely private terrace. The food was lovely and always well presented. The staff were lovely: they weee friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough for us.

For a non dog owner this hotel is great, rooms are good, staff are friendly and professional, food is good, position is good and views are great. However for dog owners this "dog friendly" hotel is not so dog friendly as dogs are not allowed in the bar and/or restaurant. The staff did make up a table for evening meal and breakfast in the guest lounge, but I really missed being able to have a drink in the bar. I still enjoyed my visit, but perhaps next time I'd eat and drink elsewhere in the town.
