Dating back to 1573, the Old Hall Hotel in Buxton is steeped in history and is recognised as one of England’s oldest hotels. Part of the existing building was constructed by the Earl of Shrewsbury, the fourth husband of Bess of Hardwick, to accommodate Mary Queen of Scots when she visited Buxton to take the waters in the 16th century. From the M6

  • Exit the M6 at Junction 19 (if coming from the north) or Junction 15 (if coming from the south).
  • If exiting at Junction 19, take the A556 towards Knutsford, then join the A537 (Cat and Fiddle Road) towards Buxton.
  • If exiting at Junction 15, take the A500 towards Stoke-on-Trent, then join the A53 towards Leek and continue to Buxton.
  • Follow signs for Buxton town centre.
  • Once in Buxton, follow signs for the Pavilion Gardens or Buxton Opera House—the Old Hall Hotel is located directly opposite.
