Edinburgh Airport existed as an Air Defence Base for the British army from 1916. During the Second World War, the RAF took over the base where a runway was built. In 1956, the first commercial flight from Edinburgh to London took place. Also taking place that year was the creation of the first passenger terminal.

The expansion and construction of Edinburgh Airport took place in 1973 while the latest expansion work took place around 5 years ago in 2013 where the terminal is now extended to the Edinburgh Airport tram stop.
