Dalhousie Castle Hotel & Spa in Bonnyrigg is a magnificent 13th century fortress just 8 miles from Edinburgh’s city centre. This 4 star Scottish Castle is set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the River Esk. From the moment you arrive, you can expect a warm Scottish welcome and a truly memorable experience.

The Edinburgh Castle Hotel is home to 35 bedrooms on the estate. Within the castle walls there are 29 individually designed bedrooms and located just minutes from the castle is the Castle Rocks Lodge which offers 6 plush oversized bedrooms which have more of a modern touch. All of the bedrooms feature soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels, robes, slippers and Temple Spa toiletries.

Guests to Dalhousie are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options. Choose from the 2 AA Rosette Awarded Dungeon Restaurant. This is a unique dining experience in the ancient barrel-vaulted dungeons. Or for a more informal option relax with the Bistro Dining at The Orangery. Within Dalhousie castle, you will find 29 charming guest bedrooms, each with its own en-suite facilities, accessible through a labyrinth of staircases and concealed corridors.

Castle Bedrooms
Each uniquely designed room exudes luxury, adorned with opulent Scottish fabrics and antique furniture fit for royalty. Despite the historic feel, the bedrooms boast modern amenities such as plush Egyptian cotton linens, cosy robes and slippers, premium Temple Spa toiletries, and all the comforts one could desire. Each room is equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a flat-screen digital TV, direct-dial telephone, ironing facilities, a hairdryer, and tea and coffee making provisions.

Accessibility
Regrettably, due to the castle's 13th-century construction, installing an elevator has not been feasible. As a result, navigating the property presents challenges for guests with mobility concerns, given the numerous stairs and narrow passageways. With accommodation spread across multiple levels, including two restaurants, accessibility within the hotel can be difficult for those with mobility issues.

Castle Lodge
The bedrooms located within the Castle Lodge boast the same four-star amenities as those found in the main castle. A brief two-minute stroll across Dalhousie Bridge through the castle grounds leads you to Castle Lodge, comprising six generously sized bedrooms and suites. Offering a contemporary take on classic castle living, these lodgings are spacious and lavishly appointed, featuring sleek modern designs that contrast with the authentic medieval style of the castle rooms. Guests can indulge in large walk-in showers, complimentary Wi-Fi, and access to a tranquil private garden.

At the Aqueous Spa located within Dalhousie Castle Hotel you can enjoy a blend of soothing and revitalizing treatments crafted to refresh both body and spirit. Great pleasure is taken in presenting an extensive array of therapeutic and beauty treatments featuring products from the holistic, vegan spa brand Ytsara.

Access to the hydro pool and spa amenities is currently available by appointment only, with guests assigned specific time slots. To ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment, appointments will be strictly adhered to.

Follow the City Bypass– take the Gilmerton/Galashiels exit for A7 – then follow signs for Galashiels until you see the sign for Dalhousie Castle. Dalhousie Castle is on the left after the Cockpen Church and before the bridge.

Join the Edinburgh bypass at Gogarburn roundabout. Follow bypass until Lasswade slip road, follow signs for Bonnyrigg, and drive straight through Bonnyrigg following the Dalhousie Castle sign, remaining on the main road. At roundabout, follow B704 signed for Gorebridge. Dalhousie Castle is located half a mile out of Bonnyrigg on the right with the entrance on your left.

Nearest Train Station - Newtongrange 5 mintues drive (1.7 miles away) From here trains run into Edinburgh City Centre every 30 minutes with a journey time of 22 mintues.

Do you offer accessible rooms?
Regrettably, owing to its construction, Dalhousie Castle does not have an accessible room or easy wheelchair access and, despite our best efforts it is has not been possible to install a lift in the castle. Ground-floor rooms are available at Castle Rocks within the hotel grounds.
Can I charge my electric vehicle at the hotel?
Yes, we have electric vehicle chargers on-site for use by our guests. These are charged at £0.49p per kwh.
How far is Dalhousie Castle from Edinburgh city centre?
Dalhousie Castle is just eight miles from the centre of Edinburgh. The easiest way to get into the city centre is by train. The nearest train station, Newtongrange Station, is just 1.7 miles from the castle, with trains running to city centre (Edinburgh Waverley Station) every 30 minutes, with a 22-minute journey time.
Do you offer a hotel shuttle bus to the airport or train station?
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to offer a shuttle service, however our Reception team will be happy to assist you to find public transport or will call a taxi for you.
Can I bring my pet?
We welcome well behaved pets in our lodge house, Castle Rocks, just a two-minute walk from the castle. Regrettably, pets aren’t allowed in the bedrooms, spa or restaurant areas within the main castle.
