The Highbullen Hotel in Umberleigh is set amongst a 125 acre estate in the heart of North Devon, with far reaching views down the Mole Valley and across to Exmoor. The hotel is within easy reach of the Devon County Town of Exeter, the Jurassic Coast to the south and the spectacular Atlantic Coast just a few miles to the north.
Constructed in 1879 this country house hotel in Devon features an impressive Victorian Gothic façade giving this 4 star hotel a commanding presence within the beautiful Devonshire countryside.

The luxury accommodation at the Highbullen Hotel is of a very high standard. The hotel features 42 beautifully restored bedrooms, including 12 in the original Manor House. Each of the Highbullen hotels rooms have been fully refurbished since 2013, offering guests luxury accommodation in this perfect North Devon setting.

In The Manor House, the 12 rooms have been individually designed, with colour schemes, furniture and fittings designed to match the atmosphere of each room. These rooms offer a luxurious stay with many individual stylish touches.

The 30 Estate Rooms have all seen a significant modernisation and offer comfort and elegance in the peaceful surroundings around the Estate. All the rooms have Smart TV’s and internet access throughout.

The Highbullen Hotel offers a range of dining options, from fine dining to a classic Devon Cream Tea on the terrace.

The Devon View Restaurant, the fine dining restaurant, has stunning views across the rolling Devon hills to Exmoor. The team of Chefs has created menus using ingredients sourced from the extensive variety of local produce to create a wonderful dining experience. The hotel can offer guests intimate dining, as well as private dining facilities for entertaining and special occasions.

Dinner is served in the Devon View Restaurant from 6.30pm to 9.30pm every day.

Breakfast is served in the Devon View Restaurant from 7am to 10am on Monday to Friday, and from 7.30 am to 10.30am on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

SUNDAY LUNCH
A traditional Sunday Lunch is served in the Devon View Restaurant from 12.30 until 2.30pm each Sunday.

Cellars Restaurant and Bar, with the adjacent Billiards Rooms, is a cosy, comfortable area to relax, enjoy a drink and good company as well as a more informal dining option.

The Drawing Room and Morning Room offer true Devon hospitality, ideal for morning coffee or Devon Cream Teas with the most beautiful of views from inside or outside on the terrace and lawn. Morning coffee is available from 10am until midday, lunch from midday until 3pm and afternoon tea available from 3pm to 5.30pm.

The Club Bar, with a Coffee Republic coffee bar, is ideal for relaxing with a drink after a workout in the gym, a game of tennis or a round of golf, plus there is an 80 inch TV with all the HD Sky Sports Channels!

Directions to Highbullen Hotel in Umberleigh

BY CAR
It is easy to find our hotel near Barnstaple, at the very heart of North Devon. From the M5, leave at junction 27 and take the A361 towards Barnstaple. After about 20 miles of lovely driving across Exmoor, at the Bish Mill roundabout, turn left onto the B3227 towards South Molton.

Progress through South Molton and towards the end of the High Street bear left onto the B3226. Follow this road along the Mole Valley for about 5 miles until you see the brown sign for Highbullen Hotel, taking the right turn, up the valley.

At the top of the hill, turn left following the brown sign to the hotel and the signpost to Chittlehamholt. Go carefully through the village of Chittlehamholt and you will find the entrance to Highbullen Hotel on the left just after you leave the village.

BY HELICOPTER
Helicopters can land on site at Highbullen with at least 24 hours prior notice and conditions permitting. Or landing is possible at Eaglescott Airfield for helicopters and light aircraft, about 6 miles away from Highbullen.

GOLF
Highbullen Hotel is surrounded by the 18-hole USGA specification golf course, set in richly wooded parkland with breathtaking views across to both Dartmoor and Exmoor.

The 5600 yard, par 68 course is an excellent test for any golfer and is perfect for a round with friends, clients or just a chance to practice your golf skills. Testing but not intimidating, it is little wonder that golf guru and BBC presenter Alex Hay describes Highbullen as “an absolute gem”.

WALKING
There are few better places for walking in North Devon than at and around Highbullen Hotel. As well as the rolling hills, rivers and woods all on our doorstep, nearby there is also the wilds of Exmoor to explore and some of the best coastal walks in the UK, along the South West Coast Path. 

SHOOTING
Nearby to Highbullen Hotel is some of the best shooting in the country. We work closely with local shoots and can arrange shooting parties for you. We can accommodate individual guests or teams of guns.

FISHING
Highbullen Hotel is ideally situated on a spur of land between two of the best fishing rivers in Devon, the River Mole and the River Taw, with beautiful scenic views of both valleys from the hotel grounds.

CYCLING
North Devon is not only an area of stunning landscapes, it has many different cycle routes and dedicated trails which will tempt you to explore the area further.

You will find that the Tarka Trail is one of the UK's most popular traffic-free cycle routes. It runs along the route of a former railway and forms part of the famous Devon Coast to Coast cycle route from Ilfracombe to Plymouth.

EXPLORE EXMOOR
Exmoor, which became a National Park in 1954, has a great variety of landscapes within its 267 square miles. As you explore Exmoor you will find moorland and woodland, combes and farmland, and a stunning coastine with high cliffs plunging into the Bristol Channel with views across to South Wales.

NORTH DEVON GARDENS
North Devon has some excellent gardens to visit. RHS Rosemoor and Castle Hill are two great local gardens to explore, but you will also find Hartland Abbey and Gardens, Tapeley Park Gardens and Marwood Hill Gardens all in the local area.

SOUTH WEST COAST PATH
The South West Coast Path offers 630 miles of coastline, with the chance to experience the heritage, wildlife, geology and breathtaking scenery.

LUNDY ISLAND
Lundy Island, 18 km off the North Devon coast, is a three and a half mile long, half a mile wide, 400 feet high granite outcrop. The majority of Lundy Island is made up of a hard granite, which has withstood a constant battering from the north Atlantic Ocean waves for many thousands of years.
