Disappointed as we’d stopped in a sister hotel previously in Ramsbottom which really set the standard. Check in was poor with staff asking if we didn’t think they were busy enough when we asked about booking the pool.... The room smelled of smoke and there was ash on the window ledge, there were brown smudges on the bathroom door that prompted us to wipe every surface and handles with baby wipes...there was plenty of dust too giving the impression the cleaners had only given a very cursory service to the room. There didn’t seem to be any continuity regarding covid-19 measures...some wore masks, many didn’t and not many user the hand sanitiser that was provided. Restaurant service was good although they didn’t always get your order right and sometimes you didn’t get cutlery...or plates... Overall I think visiting Ramsbottom Best Western set our expectations too high, I won’t be rushing back to Burnley Best Western.

This is a copy of the email I sent to the hotel manager. Five days later, I am still awaiting a reply:- Mr Callaghan, We recently stayed at the Oaks Hotel in Burnley, at which I am told you are the manager. As I felt it unfair to air my grievances to one of your receptionists, I asked her for your email. As manager, unfortunately, the buck stops with you regarding any complaints. We were booked in for 2 nights in one of your platinum superior rooms, with breakfast both days and a 2 course evening meal on one of the nights. We had arranged to meet up with family on the first night, so arranged with reception to dine on the following evening. Having arrived later than anticipated due to the weather, we found we just had time to put our bag in the room, then enjoy a quick drink and snack in the bar before we were picked up. Upon returning later that evening, we noticed a rather strong smell throughout the hotel, but put this down to having walked past the leisure facilities, and put it down to perhaps chlorine from the pool. The next morning on the way down for breakfast however, the smell was still as strong, which then made me pay more attention to our surroundings. In our room (244), there were stains on the carpet, water stains above the window, a cracked toilet seat and mouldy grout in the bathroom. Hardly what one would expect from a supposedly superior room. Walking down the corridors, it was eminently clear that the hoovering left a lot to be desired, and there were further water stains in several places between our room and reception. The doors to several rooms were grubby as though the paintwork hadn’t been wiped down for several weeks. I cannot fault any of the staff, as they were all more than helpful on the service side, but someone is clearly lacking in the oveing of the hotel, which is your ultimate responsibility. After a rather lacklustre breakfast which disappointingly didn’t include any local fresh produce, I decided that it was too unpleasant an experience to stay for the second night and dinner, regardless of the fact that I had already paid for both nights, which certainly hadn’t been cheap, even though it had been advertised as a deal. The next time we visit with family, it certainly won’t be the Oaks that will receive our patronage, With regards

The main part of the hotel is a lovely old building, if a little tired. We had a fair old hike to our room, upstairs, downstairs along corridors and round corners but the room was lovely. The bowls for our wee dog were a nice touch. We had a snack in the bar then went for a swim and a relax in the jacuzzi and sauna. Dinner was good with a nice variety of choices. After a couple of drinks we retired to bed. No complaints about the hotel or its staff. Other inconsiderate guests spoiled our stay with their drunken arguments outside our room that meant we went for an early breakfast so we could go home for some sleep.

Bedroom was spacious and comfortable. Quirky hallways, and architecture, you can feel the history here.

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding near by. Room excellent proportions, bit dated but the architecture is amazing. Leaded glass windows are stunning. I personally have difficulty with stairs, however for me personally one night was fine climbing them. The staff ( every single one of them) were so gracious and helpful. The english breakfast was huge, hot and very good. While some may moan it's a tired old dame, not me. I thought it was a truly unique experience of days long gone. While new hotels may have all the " Bells and Whistles" for me for a night or two a clean hotel witbelievable architecture I will take any day. Thank you staff!

I stayed here with a colleague recently whilst working nearby. I chose this hotel due to the location primarily. The hotel has plenty of easy parking and is easy to find. The rooms were spacious and clean and well equipped. All the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was superb.

Visited for a mid-week overnight stay with my partner having been in the region to attend a family funeral. After a long and stressful day, it was particularly nice to experience really top notch service, especially from the young lady on reception. I believe her name was April. Extremely accommodating, polite and helpful. The room was extremely nice for the price. Would stay again.
