Whilst hubby was driving us on a mission to get from North to South I was busy googling a stop for the night. To be fair we just needed a bed and food as we were leaving early the next morning. To find this at £111 for a 3 course DB&B was a bargain. We arrived just in time to drop our bags into the room and rush down for dinner. It was super quiet, ie just us, the tv was on (no idea who for!) To be honest the food was average. I feel sorry that the place is quiet, unloved and non enthusiastic staff. It needs revamping and a reset. The bedroom was the furthest away from the reception area. The bathroom was lovely. The cleaner I spoke to as I left was also lovely. It’s a large old style establishment trying to be a modern hotel. I did not have the breakfast as was not gry but hubby did. He said it was ok, not as bad as some Best Westerns. It could be so much better, it just needs life in it!

Hi, overall disappointing although the room was ok, very clean. We had booked a bottle of wine in room but reception advised us to go to a bar to pick up. No one there so we had to chase for staff, also the main bar area was closed for a wedding, that should have been made clear at time of booking. Breakfast till 11am, we went at 10 on the Sunday, “run out of bacon” wasn’t going well, other breakfast items “ran out” also, partner ordered poached eggs which never turned up.

Nice weekend away. Hotel very very quiet. Very dated. Everywhere you walked th3 floors creeked, was scared my foot was going to go through the stairs they seemed to creek and move so much. Staff super friendly Evening Food was great - breakfast-coffee was terrible and barely warm . Food, annoying having to lift of the lids and replace them one at a time took ages to make a plate of food and more annoying when the person next to u is attempting to plate theirs at same time. Drinks expensive. 6.50 a pint of cider. We put drinks on the room and it cost 22.50 for 1 cider, 1 lager and 2 pints of lemonade...wow!! Room - we paid to upgrade to executive King and I'd hate to see a regular room. This was tiny. About 6 inch gap to walk round the bed between the bed and desk/chair. No sockets next to the bed. I unplugged one as I thought it was for the radiator ..hubby plugged his phone in near tv... next morning turned out it didn't charge...why? Cos the plug I unplugged controlled the other sockets. Very strange. Would have been nice for a sign next to socket saying this as I only joked "maybe I've unplugged the whole room" and it turned out I had. Other best westerns have an ev charger...this one didn't. Advertising as a spa- the spa closed down months ago, and a gym- we heard another guest ask about it to be told you had to pay extra to use it..this is usually complimentary. Probably won't visit again. Was a decent base to travel around but that's it

Lovely room and delicious evening meal. Pity there are lots of steps for entry into the hotel.....difficult if you're a little mature!

Nice hotel in fab area. We upgraded to an executive king room and paid for this prior to the holiday but on arrival received a standard room as there was a wedding on. The next day we were given a much better room. Evening meal tasted good but there were only 4 choices each evening and nothing really changed other than sauces for meat dishes ( mushroom soup 3 days in a row etc)

I stayed at this hotel in late October. It is close to the station and the centre of town. but in a lovely elevated location with nice grounds,.It is quite a hill to get back up from the town. The room had been recently refurbished and was nice, the bed was comfortable. Plenty of tea and coffee making facil and a nice biscuit. The bathroom had a bath and shower above. The only criticism of the room was that I couldn't turn off the radiator and the room got very hot. I did ask reception to send someone to do this but it didn't happen. I had dinner as part of the deal which was served in the Brasserie. The food was very good and service attentive ( I was the only guest there at 7pm) Breakfast was buffet style and was fairly good quality Internet access was good when it worked although I had a few issues which were resolved by the staff when I made them aware, it was possible that my location within the hotel was a factor.,Overall I was very satisfied with my stay, friendly staff, nice room and good location,

had a lovely weekend at the Craiglands hotel, staff were pleasant and friendly. Our meal on our first night was very tasty and filling, Our room was enormous with a large double bed. Very clean and also quiet- this was the quietest room that we have ever had in a hotel. Only downside was that we were at the rear of the hotel and our aspect was of the side of the building and large trees. Alaso the car park had large potholes-BEWARE. would consider a return visit if we were back in area.

The room was not made up for us when we arrived; we were re-allocated but that room did not have the super view of the first room. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

We booked a three night midweek (Wed through Fri) stay at the hotel, full board. The bedroom we were allocated was at the rear of the hotel overlooking the flat roof of the service areas with no view at all. The room was dismal and smelled of stale tobacco smoke although the hotel is non smoking. When I complained about this we were shown an alternative room at the front of the hotel, much larger and better equipped with a fabulous view over the distant hills. This we readily accepted. The hotel is very much given over to a variety of functions, weddings, parties and tribute nights every Friday throughout the year. As the hotel is non smoking, revellers do congregate on the exterior bar terrace located immediately below the front bedrooms and so the noise is considerable. This is not a place to stay if you are seeking a quiet weekend. The food was good, especially the breakfast with a huge supply and variety, eat as much as you want. The dinners were well prepared but repetitious with at least two of the four choices, or very similar, having been on the menu the previous evening. The Brasserie where the meals are served is decorated black and white with almost black furnishings, again tending to be dismal. It is also a busy through route to the bar from other parts of the hotel and when you happen to be the sole diners, as we were on two nights, you begin to feel like fish in a bowl. The staff in every instance were polite and efficient, no complaints there, and the recently appointed manager was very sympathetic to our observations. Ron Plant
