Disappointing hotel stay in what we had expected to be one the flag-ship luxury hotels of our tour of the Borders. Our room was located in the rear courtyard rather than the main grand building, where the restaurant was situated. Although the room was adequate, it was dark and felt quite isolated. The fire/security alarm went off late Saturday evening, and there was no telephone in the room to phone reception to determine the cause. It was quite a walk to the restaurant in the wind & rain, for the first evening meal and the two breakfasts, and we would have preferred to stay in the main building. The first evening meal was partially discounted in our deal, rather than including the full cost of the meal, and we preferred to dine in Biggar for the second evening meal.

Lovely welcome to a very enjoyable hotel our room was spacious and spotless the bed was incredibly comfortable the staff coukd not have been any more attentive

My wife and I have just returned from an amazing 5 night stay at Shieldhill. A fantastic hotel with stunning grounds. Our room was amazing and extremely comfortable with a huge jacuzzi. The food was delicious - the scallops are a must if you’re eating in the restaurant. The staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would recommend Shieldhill Castle to everyone.

This was a great stop off on the way to the North of Scotland. The hotel staff were very welcoming and accommodating including to my 2 year old daughter. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped and the restaurant service and food quality was excellent. The hotel is in beautiful grounds too.

Stayed here for a night on way north from London. After a long drive it was the perfect place. Welcoming, friendly, superb food, fantastic huge airy room. Breakfast outstanding too! Just a gem. Stay!!
