The rooms and reception staff were very welcoming upon arrival. We had a fantastic meal on the Saturday evening and enjoyed our day out in Newcastle. The Sunday morning was extremely disappointing in the dining room for breakfast. We had to ask a member of staff for cutlery then sit at a dirty table for breakfast which was very limited at the hot buffet. We did arrive well before 10 am therefore way before breakfast stopped being served at 10:30am. We also did not receive a bottle of prosecco in either room which had been paid for as part of the deal. This deal appeared very appealing but failed to deliver what was advertised.

Will the manager in Carter and Fitch was amazing!! Always refilling our glass with ice, nothing was a problem and he chatted away to us. Monique at the spa was brilliant, my facial and deep tissue massage was amazing. Instantly felt relaxed. Breakfast was brilliant, nice food and good selection of everything. Orange juice was delicious!! Brilliant stay and can't wait to book again!

We had a fantastic stay - made to feel welcome from start to finish. Lovely room and slept well. Very good food choice for both evening meal and breakfast - loved the fresh pancakes!! Was our first time visiting but would definitely visit again in the future!

Excellent stay with friendly professional staff that ensured everything was to standard. Fabulous delicious breakfast in the morning with lots to choose from including a great variety of fresh fruit and cold meats as well as full traditional hot breakfast. Staff extremely friendly. Disappointed the jacuzzi wasn’t working. Room clean but small. Bathroom was tiny. Corridor space wasn’t very clean and dirty glasses in hallway.

Lady in reception was very welcoming and explained things very well. Room very comfortable and clean. Dinner in Carter and Fitch next door was excellent food. Service in there wasn't so good, obviously short staffed as it took ages to get orders etc. pleasant staff when you did get served though. Had a great weekend there.

The service at dinner was appalling. We booked a table, had to wait for it to be set up for us. Very very noisy could hardly hear ourselves think. Drinks menu given, came back for drinks order had to ask about draught drinks. Got order wrong. Took ages to get our drinks, even though bar staff stood doing Nothing! Food order taken, waited a fair time starters came out minus the child’s soup, had to chase it up. We then felt very rushed, even took some of the starter plates away when child still eating. Main courses soon followed, obviously chef plated food up before we had all finished the starters. The food was very tasty and well presented. The child’s ice cream was not eaten the ice cream had freezer burn. The table next to has had to ask 3 times for the vegetables they had ordered, arrived when main course eaten. Even when more staff came onto the floor, we were promised sweet menu but still had to go and ask for it.

Nice hotel but the service in the bar was disappointing, staff didn't seem to know much about the food or the hotel. Had an issue paying getting the £25pp deducted from the bill, the bar staff and reception staff couldn't agree, very unprofessional. Wouldn't stay again

Superior king room was really nice spacious and comfortable. Spa bath was class breakfast was nice. Wasn't keen on the menu in restaurant but that was just personal taste and what we ate was decent enough

Our room was fantastic but a littel warm. we really enjoyed the pool and spa facilities and we had a great meal in the restaurant. We were celebrating a special occasion and the staff ensured that we had a really memorable and enjoyable stay.

Stayed here for two nights over a weekend, we stayed in a privilege room over looking the golf course, it was a very large room with a lounge area, good value for money clean and tidy, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The breakfast was buffet style with a great selection of choice, it was nice to eat proper black pudding again, good quality of food, it has a decent size swimming pool and Gym and would recommend this hotel to anyone

Second time here. Staff friendly. Hotel in excellent location. Lovely surroundings. Food out standing. Room had everything you needed. We didn’t try the gym or pool hadn’t enough time but it looked great maybe next time. Great value for money. I would recommend and give the hotel ten out of ten.

We had a great weekend at the George Washington! The accommodation, food, golf facilities and overall service were all first class. I'd happily recommend the GW as a venue/base for a value-for-money golfing break in the North East.
