Had lovely meal and good breakfast rooms look a bit tired staf very helpful first night no heating had to get a convector heater thought service charge for getting 1 pint brought to table was unreasonable this was deducted. It was more than the cost of a pint

We actually booked two of these breaks back to back and really enjoyed our time at this hotel. If we were wanting to stay in this area again we would definitely book in at this hotel. We had a room with a garden view which overlooks the Castle area and it was lovely. The only thing we could fault was if you stay for 4 nights like we did, you tend to run out of choices for your evening meal as the menu is table d’hote and not fully “a’le carte” - but having said that the food is excellent.

Overall: We stayed 2 nights at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal as part of an offer that included dinner first night and a Windemere cruise. We had a lovely time, but perhaps an extra night would have been a better choice to squeeze in all we wanted to do and see. Hotel: Parts of it are being refurbished, especially around the roof, notable as we found a pair of legs on the scaffolding outside of our window on the morning after the first nights stay. Location: It is set in its own grounds and therefore not much within easy walking distance, around 25-20 minutes walk to Kendal centre. Room: It seemed a long away from reception, and strangely no lift to the very top so if you are infirm/elderly I would suggest requesting a room below that level as two sets of stairs with suitcases is a bit of an ask. Decor was fine, no marks on walls or ceiling, bathroom looked to have some recent refinishing of the sealant around the bath/shower. Bath was OK, water pressure was the best I have seen in a hotel recently and filled the bath in a few minutes, shower also good. Room cleaning service was very good, bed was medium/firm and fine for us, about the same as at home and provided good support, pillows were good. Room air conditioning was good and easy to control. Staff: A credit too the Castle Green Hotel - lovely, helpful and efficient, even catered to my somewhat limited palate with dinner. Breakfast: A decent self-service restaurant, the usual choices available as you would expect - it was kept hot to warm. The plates however for collecting the hot breakfast were insanely hot, and I saw a few people jump when trying to pick them up, there is a warning to use napkins but children especially didn't know/read that - possibly needs attention. Brvice & prices: Excellent service - bar staff were really helpful but sadly there was not too much going on in terms of patrons of the bar itself. Prices were typical of tourist hotel destinations, so not cheap but manageable. Would we recommend or stay again: Yes we would! It is a lovely and welcoming destination.

An amazing hotel. Lovely rooms. The food was great and the swimming pool a bonus as was the steam room. Great location too The overwhelming best assets though are the staff. Friendly, accommodating helpful and very hard working. Can’t wait to return

We had a fantastic stay at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal. The room was spotless clean and well presented. The food was excellent. The best part was the staff, all were fantastic. A special mention to Joanne at reception who couldn’t be faulted for her professionalism.

Lovely hotel set in rural area of Kendal. Rooms very clean with ample facilities as expected. Only negative point I would raise is that restaurant was a bit pricey…..although food was nice. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful

We really enjoyed our stay at Castle Green Hotel. The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet area on the outskirts of Kendal but is within walking distance. Our room though not large was adequate and had everything that we required. We also had a nice view overlooking the lovely gardens. Very comfortable bed also. We opted to eat in Alexander’s on both nights of our stay as the atmosphere seemed more relaxed and better value for money. The gentleman serving ( John ) was most pleasant and helpful. The ladies at reception were also very efficient. Would be happy to stay here again next time we are in the area.

On 2nd floor and there wasn't a lift, I wasn't aware of this when booking. Room was lovely decor and spotlessly clean (service score is purely for housekeeping otherwise it would be zero) but so dark that you needed a light on to see in daylight as the window was covered by trees. Food was awful as they served a seafood dish missing at least 3 of the ingredients because they didn't get a fresh fish delivery that day. Even the cheeseboard was missing gs! After that they had the brass neck to add on a 10% service charge. The onsite bar advertised fish n chips 2 for £22 but it's only for locals and us paying guests were expected for pay £19.95 each! Hair dryer in the room was missing the filter of the back resulting in my long hair getting tangled in the motor, rather painful as I had to pull the hair out my head as I didn't have scissors. Receptionist wasn't helpful at all, by the end of the day she'd finally got me another hairdryer but no apologies or concerns over what had happened. Having a knee injury I struggled with the stairs and by next morning I was in so much pain as the stairs were aggravating my injury . Our request to change room to a lower floor or even an area that the lift served, was denied because they were fully booked that evening. Considering it was 10am and check in wasn't until 2pm I'm pretty sure they could have juggled something about, I checked the hotel website site and my hotel breaks, there were actually 2 rooms available that night. On telling the receptionist had I been made aware there wasn't a lift I wouldn't have booked, she said some sites tell you , unfortunately some don't. There are lots of awards for the Castle Green Hotel on show in cabinets but it was a best western hotel when they received them. I suspect Castle Green Hotel are using the previous owners success as a good hotel because from my experience it was absolutely awful. I feel really insulted that they think this is acceptable!

Very much enjoyed our stay at castle green hotel. The hotel itself is dry in beautiful grounds about 20 minutes walk to Kendal town centre. The hotel rooms were nicely decorated and had all the usual amenities and good tea and coffee facilities. The hotel pool and steam room were very nicely kept, clean and well maintained and we enjoyed a couple of swims during our stay. We ate breakfast and although the cooked breakfast was a buffet we were pleasantly impressed by the quality of the food. The chef was there replenishing the hot plates continuously and was making fried eggs on demand. You could also order some additional items such as waffles, pancakes, kippers and poached eggs. My daughter ordered the waffles one morning and they were very good. We ate at greenhouse restaurant both nights. The food was superb and we all enjoyed both meals. The £35 allowance for dinner was generous and covered most options that we could have. There were some things that you could order that went above and we did make to go slightly over budget one night but we're happy to do so because we had fully bellies and very tasty meals. I would be very happy to stay there again. My daughter has some issues with germophobia and she was very happy with the cleanliness and facilities in the hotel and her standards are pretty high!

The hotel is set in lovely grounds and the location makes it easy to reach Windermere . This hotel I found to be spotless , the house cleaning team do a wonderful job . Our room was serviced daily and toiletries , tea, coffee, water and biscuits were replenished . That makes a change as most hotels no longer service rooms daily . The food and service from the restaurant and bar are second to non. Good quality food cooked to perfection. Service from staff made you feel like you were in five star restaurant. During our stay we were made to feel valued and very special. Would recommend staying here to anyone and we will return.
