We stayed at this hotel as my wife was doing the Brighton Marathon. The hotel staff opened breakfast early on Sunday to accomodate the runners that were staying at this hotel. There were 39 runners staying there in total! The room was very clean and comfortable.

I thought the main house was a beautiful building, the food great, the setting lovely too with the trees, bluebells, fields, fishing lake etc. The main bar was comfortable and nice, real home-from-posher-than-my-home. The staff were very good with booking our party and sorting out our disorganised arrivals, as well as booking taxis to, and back late from, the Bluebell Railway. They kindly didn't chase us when we didn't all check out in time the-morning-after-the-night-before, too.

We stayed here for a two night break, visiting Brighton and Arundel. The hotel was easy to find, had ample parking and was pleasant on approach. The hotel was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and our room spacious and more than adequate. Nice toiletries and plenty of tea and coffee available, as well as some biscuits!! Bed was comfortable and we had two good nights sleep. There was a wedding on the Friday night, although we didn't hear any noise from this and even this morning, the wedding party was kept separate from the other guests. Only grumble would be the, although speedy, English breakfast, which for our taste was rather undercooked (prefer a little colour on both bacon and sausage and tomatoes were not softened at all). Saying this, we would stay again

We were in the area as my wife was on a business course nearby. The Hickstead was a good choice for a one night stay. Set in a quiet rural area with plenty of free on site parking. Spacious, well appointed room, which was Spotlessly clean. So a big thumb's up to the housekeeping staff for that. Friendly staff at check in which was without delay. We ordered evening meals from the room service menu and were very impressed with the food quality, quantity and the speed of service. All faultless. In the morning, breakfast was a relaxed affair with a buffet of hot cooked items and a range of juices and continental pastries, cereals etc. Check out was set for 11am but as I wasn't feeling well I asked for a later checkout and 1 o'clock was agreed. This was done with no extra charge, so a big thanks for that. We will be back in the area in a few weeks time for another course for my wife and would not hesitate in choosing The Hickstead again. A good choice. We'll be back.
