Lovely massive hotel. Spa/pool/thermal suites really good Lovely food Nice, friendly staff apart from Sara the lady behind the bar who was rude to her co worker in front of customers. Very unprofessional! Rooms could do with sound proofing as can even hear toilet habits of people in the room above!

My fiancé and I arrived at your hotel on Friday 2nd September. On going to the bar to pay for drinks to be asked which room I was in to be told, oh sorry there’s no credit on your card! I have never, ever stayed in a hotel where credit has to be applied to the card. All my purchases are normally just charged to my room. This is something that needs to be addressed as you check in. My fiancé didn’t want me going back to my room for my card, so lent me my future mother in laws card to put the holding fee on. I then proceeded to order lunch. I have to say that we were not impressed with paying £11 for a cheese and ham sandwich that was just two pieces of white bread, plated up with a little portion of crisps. Further disappointment arose when on coming down to dinner on our first evening we were given a flimsy menu that we had just seen previous in the bar and asked what we would like to order. This could have been better presented. Having stayed at many a different hotel in the past I found this very off putting. We chose to order large nachos to share, a main course each and a pudding. When the nachos arrived they were poorly presented. Burnt nachos, hardly any cheese on top and three plastic pots to accompany the sauces. We contacted the member of staff who did not seem to think there was anything wrong with them. In the end he offered to get us some more, we said ok. He then arrived back at the table to tell us that they would still be burnt as that happens when they put them under the grill. We decided to go then for the chicken wings to be told, oh sorry we have a problem with the supplier we don’t have them. Obviously when we sat down non of the foods excluded from the menu were told to us. We also had a very long wait for the wine to arrive and I had to ask the waitress for that. As your portion size was so small sadly later on in the night we were gry. We tried to order pizza but they couldn’t make it for us, so sandwiches it had to be. That meant paying £11 each again but £5 to bring them to our room. Absolutely ridiculous. On Saturday 3rd September I arrived in reception and asked that the holding fee be void and the current amount taken from my card. This was done, but sadly on arriving home, my mother in law informed us that they had taken the £100 holding fee from her account. This should not have happened. On Monday evening I rang your hotel to try and get through. Sadly the phone kept on getting cut off as it was ringing for so long. After the 8th time it was eventually picked up, but I was told to ring back the next day at 9am. So on Tuesday 6th September I was forced to ring the hotel to find out what was happening. No apology, just to be told it’s normal and that the £100 would be refunded to my mother in laws account in 3-4 days. This was a surprise vacation away for my fiancé for his birthday. Sadly I am very disappointed, I paid £230 for this hotel break, and feel very frustrated at everything that happened. I have stayed in many a Mecure Hotel and always found them to be amazing but sadly this experience has put me off and put a shadow over my fiancé’s special day.

Pleasantly surprised at the standard of accommodation and the general ambience of the hotel. Staff pleasant and service good. Dining room well organised. Breakfast was amongst the best.

A lovely setting and interesting history to the hotel, originally a castle with additional blocks added on,which makes it have a lot of corridors, but fine once you get used to it. The weather was lovely so had a drink outside and then took advantage of the pool for a swim before dinner. All the staff were very welcoming, the restaurant team were very helpful both in the evening and at breakfast.

Lovely hotel with spacious rooms. We were upgraded on arrival which was really nice. Everything you need is in the room including an undercounter fridge. (ventilation needed as the fridge caused the sideboard to get really hot) staff are very attentive and polite. Food was amazing and presentation was outstanding. Spa was open but have to say there was 3 steam rooms but only one worked. Huge lovely pool with swim in sauna. Locals mentioned that it had went downhill since reopening. My first impression was WOW when I first entered only to find not all perfect. Some blocked off doors as well which makes me think there's more to come perhaps. Will be back again.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with the hotel. We travelled down from Scotland and stayed in the courtyard rooms which were nice enough, however the toilets were difficult to flush, you had to vigorously push the flusher about 15 times before it would work. The water wasn't hot coming from the hot tap in the sink and the shower would periodically go ice cold. Water wasn't draining properly either, meaning the bath would fill while you showered. The spa had no robes and when I asked for extra towels instead, the staff made it seem like it was an unreasonable request and were not very polite or helpful, which was surprising considering the thermal suite wasn't available due to renovations, you'd think the staff would be making every effort to ensure everything else was at least adequate. The spa bar was minimally stocked, meaning we had to go to the main bar for some drinks which meant walking outside and round to go back in for access and while standing at the main bar, we had to wait as there are no tills and the card machine is shared with the restaurant, so staff were running back and forth. Guests were queuing fast while we waited (in our towels)! The set menu in the restaurant wasn't great and portion sizes were small with the exception of the fish and chips. The main menu didn't offer much more. Breakfast was ok but had it not been included in the package, I wouldn't have paid for it. We tried several times to sit outside with drinks in the sun but the place is hoaching with wasps, I even got stung and when I asked the staff for some bug spray or citronella candles, they had nothing of the sort and just told me to sit inside instead, not bothered or helpful at all. We were there for my Mums 60th, I made the staff aware but nothing was done to help make it a special occasion, again they just seemed uninterested, we also had my 80 year old Gran with us who had suffered a stroke earlier this year reducing her mobility, she struggled with access as there are lots of stairs from the courtyard into the bar, lounge and restaurant, no staff members offered any help, they walked past as she was trying to get up the stairs. I have stayed at many Spa Hotels across the UK and can honestly say this has been one of the worst. Unfortunately I didn't get their names but the only staff that were polite and helpful were the blonde lady that checked us in, the dark haired gentleman in the main bar and the lady with curly hair that wore the suit jacket in the restaurant, had it not been for them I would have complained at the hotel and requested some sort of compensation.

Our mistake in turning up a day early. Reception were very kind and managed to accommodate us. Room clean and tidy and bed v comfortable. Curtains well fitted, ensuring total room darkness. V good. Generous bathroom with both bath and separate shower. Enjoyed dinner first night but service was really slow! Two hours plus was a lot of waiting time between courses. I know there was a large wedding party going on but the restaurant was just plain understaffed. We last stayed here back in the late eighties. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Great value hotel for the price. Fantastic room. Staff lovely and really helpful. We arrived on Thursday and it was difficult to get a drink at the bar due to no staff. They did give us all complimentary drink with our evening meal.

Myself and My partner recently stayed here I was blown away with how clean and lovely the hotel was and not to forgot how lovely all the staff members are we were all inclusive for dinner and breakfast and complements to the chef and the dinner was absolutely amazing! The only slight downfall for our trip away was how warm the room was we loved the room just not the heat of it as it was above the pool we are all ready planning our next trip to here but will remember to ask to be put away from the pool as the heat was unbearable at points

We enjoyed our break at Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa. Very welcoming staff. Evening meal and breakfasts were of a high standard, plenty choice. Attentive staff. Dunkenhalgh is centrally placed in Northern England, with good motorway links. Even with these links, it is peaceful and rural.

Smooth check in, lovely big room. Came here on the dinner bed and breakfast. Enjoyed the food a lot and had a really good time. The only feedback I would give is that when guests have finished eating give them a minute or two before whipping away the plates. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and I really enjoyed it. Lots of options veggie wise for my wife. She did ask for just vanilla ice cream as a dessert and was told that there was none. However I got vanilla ice cream with my sticky toffee pudding which seems a bit strange. So overall we had a really good time. I did say on the booking that I booked for our wedding anniversary. It would have been nice to have someone on reception acknowledge this I'm not a suggesting we should get something for nothing. Just a simple "We hope you enjoyed your anniversary while here" it's those little things that leave a lasting impression. Overall though very impressive thank you.
