Ideal location for a visit to Manchester. Pleasant, quiet room with a good sized shower, nice city view and a big comfy bed. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Close to great restaurants and bars, bus stops to anywhere in the Manchester area, 5 minute walk from Piccadilly Station. Highly recommended.

Excellent location for all the Manchester city centre attractions. We had a very quiet rear facing room on the 5th floor. Excellent breakfast and very adequate bedroom, but don't expect the Ritz at these prices? The hotel is a little tired and could do with a little updating but that was more than made up for by the brilliant staff, all smiles and welcomes. Especially Jay on breakfast duty, proper Mancunian with a wry sense of humour.

Stayed 1st December 2023

The Gardens hotel in Manchester was definatley the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Myself and my husband arrived at around 2.30pm on 1st December. Whilst we were at reception checking in, my husband accidentally trapped his finger on the handle of his suitcase and his finger was badly bleeding onto the floor. I told the receptionist and asked for help but she ignored me. She was more interested in her male colleague, singing along loudly to the music playing (tears for fears). After telling her for the 4th time and asking for help, she offered a small plaster but the blood continued to run through the plaster. Not at all helpful, to be honest. It was a mess. It was well below freezing outside and to our surprise, also inside, as the radiator did not work in our room. I called reception 3 times to report this but the line was dead. Eventually I got through to front of house and a lady brought a very small heater up to our room. It took hours for the room to heat up. The bedding didn't fit the bed as the sheets were too small. There was 1 pillow each which was very lumpy and uncomfortable. The room looked like something from the 1970's. To say it was shabby, is an understatement. We has 2 single beds. My husbands bed was collapsing and unless he lay perfectly still, he would roll off the side of the mattress.(My husband is small). Why were we in single beds anyway?? Above the bed, extremely high up on the ceiling, was a very large roof light that was partially open. You would need a long ladder to reach it. Neither of us slept at all, as we could hear everything that was going on outside. Police and ambulance sirens, people talking/arguing, the trams etc, etc, etc. We were on floor 5, which was supposedly the top floor. But no! that was not true, because all through the early hours of the morning, someone above us was stomping around and moving what sounded like tools and equipment. It was extremely loud. In the morning, we spoke to a maintenance man, who told us he had been up there since 3am doing emergency work. Now we get to the door key card. It never worked. I lost count of how many times we went to report this to reception. We were constantly going backwards and forwards to reception about this. Up and down to 5 floors! The receptionist just kept giving us another key card to try and non of them worked. She would then send a member of staff up with a key to let us in. On the evening of 1st December, we were leaving the room in the evening, as we were going to a concert for my birthday. My husband accidentally left his surgical knee support in the room. We should have been able to easily go back for this. My husband is awaiting surgery for his knee and really needs this when we go out anywhere. He has alot of pain. As I have already told you, the key card did not work. We had a taxi booked to take us to the event and did not have time to go down to reception to ask for someone to come up and let us into our room. If we had done this, we would have missed our taxi and been late for the concert. Therefore, my husband was in agony all night and this ruined our evening. The final time this happened was after breakfast on 2nd December (my birthday). Again, we went to reception to report the door issue. The receptionist asked me if we were staying for a second night and I replied "thankfully not". Instead of being professional and asking me what I was not happy about, she pushed another key card across the desk to me and said, "there you are then". As if to say, if we are not staying another night, she can't be bothered to help. The maintenance man was working near reception and offered to let us into our room with a key. When he checked the door lock, he told us that the lock needed re-programing and so he went off to get some tools. We waited for him to come back and then he let us in. He then spent a while fixing this issue. When we went to the reception to check out, the receptionist just said, "oh, you're checking out are you, bye then". Again, very rude and no questions about how we found our stay. Very unprofessional. In fact, I had wanted to log a complaint about the distressing experience but I don't feel the receptionist would have been capable of doing this. We were planning to stay in Manchester for the day on 2nd December but due to having NO SLEEP and feeling so stressed and deflated, we caught an earlier train and went straight home. Thank goodness the concert was good, as our experience at this hotel was the worst I have ever had. It also completely ruined my birthday. Regards Caroline

All staff were really friendly! Breakfast was fabulous, very fresh and lovely ingredients. We booked an executive room, which was lovely (if only a tad dated) I can’t comment what other (non-executive) would be like however.

Really surprised with the quality of the hotel for the price. Room was large and clean, with everything you could want in the room. I'm not a big fan of themed rooms but the electronics element in ours really interested me (dont worry its not over the top). The chocolates and prosecco were waiting in the room. Breakfast was cooked to order with a help yourself selection for the continental option. Very close to the city centre. All in all a very nice stay, I would happily return.

From the moment we checked in until we checked out 2 days later, every interaction with a member of staff was a pleasure. All staff were extremely polite and helpful. Hotel itself is dated and could do with a few pounds spent on it but that said, we were very happy with the room. The breakfast deserves a special mention as it’s one of the best I’ve had in a hotel and is definitely worth getting up for.

Does what it says on the tin, a clean, simple basic room for the night. Comfortable bed and helpful staff. Could do with a touch of TLC as is the case with lots of other hotels but otherwise a value for money stay.

We stayed in the executive room which was a better room than I was expecting, it had more of an apartment feel and you get the whole floor to yourself let alone a big room with a toilet and shower separate from the bedroom. The staff were helpful and polite enough. Breakfast was typical of most hotels so overall it was good food with a varied choice of cereals, fry-ups etc. Overall would I stay again for the price yes I would it was cheaper than some hotels nearby yet good service and no major complaints and for a few extra quid the executive room is worth it.

Myself and my husband stayed here in November 19-21st, the staff where really friendly and helpful, after a mistake making a booking(my fault) they quickly fixed it and where very accommodating, couldnt say anything negative about any of the staff we spoke to. It's a lovely hotel close to lots of shops and the Christmas markets, small but comfortable room and great hot showers with awesome pressure. Definitely somewhere I would stay again

i have stayed at the Gardens Hotel various times in the past and this time our visit was on the 14th of November. On arrival we were given a room that was unsuitable but we had no problem getting this changed and the receptionist very kindly checked with us that the change was satisfactory. We had the full breakfast which was good. A pleasant stay and I will be back!
