The Machrie is Islay’s newest hotel and has undergone an extensive refurbishment that has lovingly restored the original building and fused it with the addition of striking architecture in the new building.
Whether on the ground or first floor, all bedrooms have unobstructed views of the island’s peat plains, the Mull of Oa or the green of the hotel’s links course and the Atlantic Ocean.
New lodges have also been added to the links and offer more private accommodation only a minute’s walk from the main building.
The Classic Rooms are located in the original part of the building. Decorating in a fresh Scandinavian style, all the Classic Rooms offer views of the beautiful Islay countryside.
All of the Deluxe Rooms have Scandinavian-style decor with views of the links or the Islay countryside. The Deluxe Rooms are available as either twin or double rooms.
The spacious Executive Rooms many face the golf course and the greens with a small terrace on the ground floor, or views of the Atlantic Ocean on the first floor or large rooms with countryside views. The bathrooms also benefit from a separate bath and shower.
The Lodge Rooms are located adjacent to the main hotel building, directly on the golf course. A Lodge Room can connect to a Lodge Suite via a private entrance foyer to create a private 2-bedroom lodge.

The unique Islay Room is located on the first floor with stunning countryside views. It features a four-poster bed and comfortable seating so you can relax and take in the views.

Car & Ferry
Travelling from Glasgow is approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive to Kennacraig on the west coast of the Mull of Kintyre. The ferry leaves from Kennacraig and arrives at either Port Askaig in just under 2 hours or Port Ellen, in just over 2 hours.

Calmac also operates a ferry from Islay to Oban on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Things to see and do while staying at the Machrie Hotel
The Isle of Jura Jura is part of the southern Hebrides and is only accessible by the ferry from Port Askaig on Islay to Feolin over the sound of Islay. Ferry services are regular (every 15 minutes) until 5pm in the afternoon.
