Designed by venerated 18th-century architects the Adams brothers, Dumfries House - once the playground of the Marquesses of Bute - faced an uncertain future in 2007, while all of its cultural riches risked being divided up and sold off.
A royal intervention at the eleventh hour brought the drama to an end - but also marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of the UK’s true gems.

Located just steps away from the famed house is the award-winning Dumfries House Lodge, a charming five-star B&B which has become one of Scotland's most sought-after rural retreats for couples and families looking to escape the jolt of city life. Occupying the former factor's home, which dates back to 1750, the Lodge is steeped in history and surrounded by 2,000 acres of lush gardens and beautiful countryside views.

There are hours of entertainment to be had for people of all ages: while children will make a beeline for the expansive nature-based playground and traditional maze, green-fingered guests will be drawn by the siren call of The Queen Elizabeth II Walled Garden.

Lodge guests can take their pick of 22 unique en-suite rooms, two luxury self-catering cottages or the newly-opened Doocot Apartment, with prices from just £145 per night. A delicious locally-sourced breakfast is included, whilst guests also have the option to dine in the new Dumfries House Lodge Restaurant.

Designed to be a home away from home, thanks in part to its welcoming cottage feel, the impressively large, airy rooms have been sensitively decorated with floral patterns and pastel shades as well as specifically selected antique furniture. Most of the en-suite rooms open out onto a courtyard, with the blissful sound of the burn and the chorus of birds emanating from the woodland beyond, while guests are also welcome to access the cosy sitting rooms and opulent dining room throughout their stay.

The Dumfries House Lodge offers great late deals and special offers on short breaks throughout the year. Book online today with My Hotel Break.
