Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa, Peebles

I had arranged an accessible room for Friday 5th December, I double checked on the 4th! The hotel had no such booking, Fiona from reception sorted it. The hotel has ONLY one accessible room, there is a lip into the shower room - v difficult to maneuver!

This was an overnight for a birthday treat and using a My Hotel Break deal. The price was reasonable. The hotel receptionist was friendly and welcoming at check in. The room was spacious and clean. There was supposed to be Prosecco in the room on arrival. This didn't happen but as soon as it was pointed out it was rectified. The barman was friendly and cheerful. The lounge area was very comfortable.There was a £30 pp dinner allowance but most of the mains exceeded that, However the menu was good and the food was delicious. Staff were very friendly and we were even given a complementary glass of fizz with dinner as someone (the receptionist I presume) had passed on that it was a birthday celebration.. This was much appreciated. In the restaurant, service was very efficient. Bela deserves a special mention. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices, and again service was excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay. I would be very happy to visit again.

Great hotel great views great staff great food

Our big issue was the assurance of the hotel that they had a lift. Indeed they do but it had been inoperable since at least March of this year!!!! We should have been told! Old legs with bags need the lift. Otherwise, the room was excellent, with good housekeeping, good views and an excellent shower with separate bath. Dinner on first of two nights for my party was not a success. Six of us arrived at 7.00pm as booked, took several minutes to be seated and then another 20 mins before ordering and then 25 more mins before starters arrived!! Similar delays to main course led to us not leaving the dining room until 9.30pm Breakfast also brought it's own problems as, like dinner, there was insufficient staff to cope with the volume of customers. Buffet was poor witdercooked bacon, black pudding served by spoon not in rings, no fried egg available and tea poured into cups by staff but no teapot left on the table!! However it all improved on our second day when my party was then 8 strong. An excellent dinner, good wine, much less customers so vastly improved service followed by a most excellent breakfast the next day cooked to order, with no hot buffet, HURRAY!! The whole experience was hugely enhanced by a great golf course and stunning scenery. In short, when not overly busy, the hotel experience was very good . When busy, poor staffing levels and a breakfast buffet spoiled what overall was an enjoyable time for 4 couples enjoying time out and a little golf..........BUT FIX THE LIFT PLEASE and as a final thought, the card reader on reception needs improving

Hotel and room were nice problem with booking dinner booked for 7pm but when going to restaurant they couldn’t find booking . Choice for dinner was poor and breakfast on 2nd morning was pathetic asked for tea cups but was told there was none as they were being washed!!asked for bacon as dish was empty had to ask again 15minz later . Waiter came with some and was very rude telling me that the dish was half full more or less telling me I was lying and I had words with him and reported it to reception . On paying bill wrong amount was deducted and they blamed you therefore I had to produce your confirmation to get it altered . All in all NOT a pleasant experience especially as it was our anniversary

The location was excellent. Although a pleasant stay and clean and spacious room, the hotel felt dated and in need of general updating throughout. Initial check in information was very limited and bar prices on the expensive side. The main dinner meal was well presented , however Restaurant service was slow and the breakfast was very poor with limited selection and not helped by staff members with poor personal hygiene.

Bit disappointed with how dated the bedrooms are compared to pictures on your offers . Beds are really uncomfortable and pillows awful . Can’t fault the staff they were amazing especially Fiona on reception. Spa was also great .

Food excellent, lovely to have a bottle of Prosecco on ice in our room on arrival but we had to go to the bar for glasses! The lift wasn’t working which could be a problem for future guests.

The room was lovely, bright and spacious. Bar and restaurant were both very nice and our dinner on both nights was excellent. Breakfast was another matter - My husband and I ordered eggs Benedict. This has a £6 surcharge (not quite sure why) and when it came instead of an English in it was ciabatta bread and the honey roast ham was very tough bacon. Friends with us ordered full breakfast with fried eggs but were told there were no eggs available in the store to fry and only scrambled pre-cooked to go with their breakfasts. It would seem that all breakfast items are precooked and reheated for service. When questioned the £6 surcharge was waived. Golf course and facilities were excellent.

We stayed 2 nights b&b with dinner 1 night. Had a lovely time, room was spacious and had a view of the golf course .Breakfast was buffet.Had to ask for a few items to be replenished but this was done efficiently. Dinner was good, diningroom was busy with a few golfing groups but we were served quickly .Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed on a Sunday night ,busy with golfers who had drinks at the downstairs bar, it was quite noisy and went on pretty late so if you want a quiet break I'd suggest going midweek not on a weekend.We would return as that was the only problem we had.

Service across the hotel was excellent, very friendly from room cleaning staff to dinner service. Food and drinks menu choice and value was very good . The room was clean and very spacious ( I’d request a golf course view next time because of some road noise ). Overall the hotel was a pleasure to stay in and we will return very soon .

We had a lovely relaxing stay at this hotel. The receptionist (Fiona) was very welcoming and helpful. This set the tone for the rest of the break. We both felt that the leisure facilities were great and not too busy. Great breakfast as well.The room was very comfortable and clean. Yes they could be doing with a bit of a refurbished but still enjoyable. Special mention to Fiona who seemed to be everywhere whenever we needed. We will definitely be back.

The most beautiful hotel in the most beautiful spot… gorgeous walks along by the golf course and the rivet Tweed, it’s about 3 miles to the wonderful town of Peebles in one direction and similar distance to Innerleithen in the other direction. Macdonald Cardrona have really friendly staff, special mention to Michael on reception… The food was fantastic, we got a DBB deal with bottle of Prosecco in the room (£30 each towards evening meal), the deal was worth every penny! We will look for this deal again :) Thank you!

The stay was lovely and relaxing all staff friendly and helpful. The only things were that the rooms though comfy were starting to look a bit tired and as we had a later breakfast things had run out and had to ask for a few things to be replenished. The hotel is in lovely settings and a nice walk nearby sp would recommend

Had a fantastic dinner bed and breakfast stay at the Cardrona, The check in was fast and smooth with a very cheerful receptionist. Our room was overlooking the golf course and was spotless and the bed and pillows very comfortable. Our evening meal was amazing and we were quite impressed with the service. Drinks were quite expensive though, so the prosecco we had in the room, as part of the deal, was welcomed. Breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. Really happy with our break and looking forward to returning quite soon. All staff were professional and friendly and made us feel valued.

Spacious and very well equipped room . Excellent bath and shower. Pleasant dinner efficiently served and well presented. Good choice too at breakfast. Friendly welcome from courteous staff. Overall a very good experience . Our fourth stay at this hotel which we very much like. Surrounding area is stunningly beautiful. Just wish the Scottish government would repair the multitude of potholes in the roads!

Lovely stay at this hotel, room was great looking out into golf course, dog friendly which is always a bonus, service, food was perfect, the only criticism I have is being charged £14.75 for a corona & a glass of rose, needless to say I only had the one glass of wine at these prices ????

We enjoyed our 1st trip to Peebles and the Cardona hotel. It was very quiet due to the time of year however the service, food and staff made it a pleasant stay. The only downside was that there was no keg beer! For whatever reason? We would still go back.
