New Lanark itself is a unique village, surviving almost unchanged since 1785. It rose to fame as the birthplace of Robert Owens's imaginative and far-reaching approach to community life.
New Lanark village faced demolition after the closure of the cotton mills in the 1960s but has now been beautifully restored as a living community and is one of Scotland's top visitor attractions, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The New Lanark Mill Hotel is surrounded by beautiful native woodland, and is close to the spectacular Falls of Clyde where various walks are available. It's a great base for exploring Clydesdale, and Central/Southern Scotland. The city centres of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling are all about an hour away.
The New Lanark Mill Hotel developed Scotland’s largest Roof Garden and has been a huge success with visitors.
The Roof Garden has been created on a 9.000 square feet of roof of an A listed building.
Visitors and hotel guests can view this amazing garden year round and enjoy a spectacular birds-eye view of the surrounding natural scenery and the historic village - the gateway to the famous Falls of Clyde. (Charges apply to visit the Garden as this is part of the Visitor Attraction and not the hotel/lodges. Lodge guests receive discounted Visitor Centre Ticket Price)
