The Tempus, located within the Charlton Hall estate near Alnwick, is a recently constructed boutique hotel. Situated on the expansive 150-acre country estate of Charlton Hall, it offers picturesque views of the estate and features interiors inspired by the whimsical concept of 'entirely bonkers' from Alice in Wonderland. This design creates a fantastical atmosphere bringing wonderland to Northumberland. The name "Tempus," derived from the Latin word for time, is in harmony with its unconventional counterpart, Charlton Hall, on the estate. Conveniently positioned just off the A1, The Tempus serves as an excellent base for exploring the attractions of Alnwick and Northumberland, including Bamburgh Castle and the Northumberland coastline.
With 31 boutique guest bedrooms designed by award-winning interior designers at Jeffreys Interiors have brought the vision to life. Each room is individually designed and decorated to a high standard with luxury soft furnishings and materials as well as a totally bonkers colour palate with an ode to Alice in Wonderland at the heart of The Tempus Hotel. With both ground and first-floor ensuite bedrooms, each room has its own cheeky personality offering an unforgettable experience. The interiors are inspired by the Alice in Wonderland adage of being ‘entirely bonkers’, the designers have created the feeling of a wonderland in Northumberland.
Each bedroom features a comfortable bed, lavish furnishings as well as the in-home comforts needed for an enjoyable stay. Wall rooms feature an en suite bathroom, double or king-sized bed, large flat-screen TV, complimentary wifi and air conditioning.
The Tempus King
The Tempus has a variety of ground-floor king rooms that are beautifully furnished with ensuite bathrooms. Two of our king rooms are all suitable as accessible rooms.
The Tempus Junior Suite
The Tempus spacious junior suites are all located on the first floor and offer fabulous garden and countryside views. These fabulously designed rooms have a seating area, with spacious ensuite bathrooms with both bath and shower.
The Tempus Superior King Room
The Tempus boasts a selection of superior king rooms located on both the ground floor and first floor. All have been elegantly designed and are all unique with spacious ensuite bathrooms. Two of these rooms which are dog friendly and a dog charge of £30 would apply.

The boutique suite is located on the first floor and has a seating area, a spacious ensuite bathroom with both a shower and bath and fabulous garden and countryside views.

Located on the ground floor of Pole Barn our king rooms have luxury en suite bathrooms with walk-in showers. With their own private entrances, these rooms have their own private terrace with woodland views.
Pole Barn Superior Room
This Superior room features a tea/coffee maker, electric kettle and private entrance.
Pole Barn Family Room
Located on the first floor of Pole Barn and accessed via your own outdoor staircase this family room has woodland features and a spacious en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and roll-top bath.
Farm House King Room
Located on both the ground and first floor our Farmhouse king rooms are beautifully decorated for our customers to enjoy a relaxing overnights stay. All rooms have elegantly designed ensuite bathrooms with two of them boasting free-standing baths.

- Start by heading west on the road from Chathill.
- Continue on the A1068, passing through the village of Boulmer.
- Keep following the A1068 until you reach the A1 junction.
- Merge onto the A1 dual carriageway heading south.
- Stay on the A1 for a few miles until you see signs for Beal and the Holy Island (Lindisfarne) exit.
- Take the exit and follow the signs for Beal.
- Once in Beal, look for signs directing you to Charlton Hall Hotel.
- Follow these signs, and you will arrive at Charlton Hall Hotel.
