Very pleasant stay. This is a lovely small hotel with the main building dating back to the 1500s when it was a coaching inn. The bar and restaurant are both smartly decorated as are the bedrooms. Our room was large with a good selection of tea coffee and hot chocolate, and, biscuits which was a nice touch that even more expensive hotels seems to have largely stopped doing. There was a nice range of toiletries in the bathroom too. The staff were lovely and friendly. We had a meal in the evening which was excellent. Breakfast was great too. We spotted the Sunday carvery being brought out to the tables in the bar in the afternoon and they looked wonderful as well. We might even make a special journey to try it one Sunday afternoon. We booked the Sunday evening booking offer. Complete bargain for the price, We would thoroughly recommend and will certainly stay again in the future.

Stayed here for one night in a standard room. The room was nice and really clean and shower was lovely and hot. The garden to the back is nice and will be lovely on a nice day. Had a meal on the night that was good. The breakfast seemed disorganised only 1 member of staff and she was trying to.clear tables check people in get tea s and coffees and also take breakfast orders. Also not enough tables for the people waiting for breakfast. Alot of the juices and bread and other things were therefore not filled up. We would return but this did put us off a little.

Had a nice short break at the George . Very relaxing and a great place to base yourself for Bishop Auckland, Barnard Castle and the Dales. We had a superior room 102 which was massive and well appointed with a seating area coffee table and large bathroom inc bath and separate shower. The only minus point was the room was incredibly hot with no way of turning down the radiators. We ended up having to open the secondary glazing to allow access to the windows but this did mean we got some road noise in Breakfast was nice and appeared to use local produce. Staff v pleasant and helpful nothing to dislike Thank you and will book again

April 2023 : Great Break: Our 3rd trip to the George - always able to find a good value deal and well placed as a base to tour the Dales,North Yorkshire Moors and County Durham countryside. Rooms clean and tidy - bathrooms mainly have a shower but again clean and functional with plenty of on tap. 16th Century charm with open fires and a lovely snug. Menu and bar offerings are reasonable - prices competitive and I can recommend the Pave Rump Steak.Breakfast selection good with Full English cooked to order. Staff friendly and helpful with a shout out to Gemma and a special mention to Emma who's bubbly personality and willingness to go the extra mile to make your stay a happy one the real deal - what a star! Thank you. Mr & Mrs C - Kent (Review scores based on value for money - Feb stay at £20pppn B&B April stay at £27.50pppn B&B)

There was a leak in the bathroom of the room we were initially given but this was sorted out quickly and we were offered another room. This room was a bit tired looking and there were no batteries in the TV remote. However, this problem was again resolved fairly promptly. Overall, it was a good stay and value for money.

More a pub with rooms than an hotel but still provided a very pleasant stay. our room in the annex was clean and well equipped with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast and evening meals were served in the bar. Breakfast in particular offered a good choice and the food was freshly cooked to order. There was a touch of the Fawlty towers which only lent to the charm of the place. First morning gfruit and mandarin segments were on offer - both in bowls firmly sealed with cling film and placed in large wooden bowls, so making the removal of the cling film all but impossible. The following morning the bowls were lacking clingfilm but incorrectly labelled. And the toaster wasn't plugged in! All small details which made us smile. Evening meals in the bar were pretty good but not outstanding. Limited choice for vegetarians. Staf very friendly and helpful. Overall, a most enjoyable stay and ideally placed for visits to Richmond, Darlington and other local town. Good value for money. Would definitely stay again! Overall Staf very friendly and helpful. Would most definitely come again. Excellent value for money

Hotel was lovely, food was amazing. Will definitely return and have already recommended the hotel to friends. Only negative thing I can say is the fire alarm appeared to be really sensitive going off 3 times when we were waiting for our meals which coincidentally came out just after the fire alarm and also at 6.55am in the morning. This didn't spoil our stay but might be something needing looked at

We stayed at the George for 3 nights at the end of November paying a very good special offer rate. We also paid around £12 per night to stay in a superior room which proved to be well worthwhile as the room was one of the nicest and spacious, we have stayed in. The staff were friendly, and the public areas had a nice country pub atmosphere. The beer was fine as the food (we only used the bar menu). The setting on the banks of the river Tees is very picturesque. The hotel is larger than it looks as there are rooms in an annex and the can accommodate weddings. There are several places to visit within a 20-mile radius. Guests at the front of the hotel may notice some traffic noise early morning. I will certainly be returning.

Amazing bargain find. Booked a last minute overnight stay for me and my husband and loved it. We stayed in a standard room that way a really good size especially the large bathroom. We had our evening meal here and drinks and was very reasonably priced and a high standard of food. We will be booking to come back in the new year.

So after a month of staying here for 1/2 nights a week , I have to be the most satisfied guest ! I cannot fault the staff here . They are all working incredibly hard and customer service is excellent . The lovely lady on reception ) sorry i have forgotten your name ) is so friendly and chatty and constantly on the move ! The bar staff are polite and chatty too and the food is worth every penny ! Always hot and nicely presentable and I had trouble to finish my George Burger ! I have become an honoury member of the locals and it is lovely to chat with them in the cosy bar area . Breakfast is a lovely range of continental and lovely hot food - my omelette is always perfect ! The George has a lovely bar / dining area as well as lovely cosy comfortable rooms . Thank you as always for looking after me . See you next week ! Amanda x

Lovely little get away if you are wanting peace and quiet, food and service were brilliant and rooms were clean and had all the essentials (hairdryer, iron, kettle etc) Staff were very friendly and the cooked breakfast was very good. Not much to get up too in Piercebridge itself but dont let that put you off booking.

We upgraded and ended up in room 102, fabulous. £124 total for 2 nights B&B. Staff are lovely, breakfast is good. Already looking to return. Dog friendly too.

I love this gorgeous place. Its the 3rd time in 3 weeks I have stayed here for work and after trying several hotels and Air BnB's , this is the one I will continue to book. Staff are all very friendly and nothing is any trouble. The room I stay in is perfect for what i need for 2 nights a week, it is large and airy and has ensuite bathroom. I have eaten in the restaurant for dinner and although a small menu, there is something for everyone. ! I can recommend the pate and the scampi. Breakfast was continental and cooked and you can have both and anything hot that you would like. Some people were having full english, poached eggs or just bacon sandwiches ( which were yummy ). Such a convenient location just outside of darlington and very easy for me to travel around South Durham area with my job.
