Gorgeous country inn, seamless check in on arrival and a beautiful room with a lovely bottle of wine waiting 4 us. However the evening was disappointing we got all dressed ready 2 go down for what we thought would be a nice romantic meal. On entering the bar area it ws quite busy we had 2 ask where the resturant was we were guided 2 a room where the lights were switched on just as we entered the room was empty no candles no music and freezing cold. We decided that this was not very welcoming and said we would go back to bar however there were no free seats so had 2 return to resturant where a party of 4 people were now seated. We had 2 ask for some heating on the other party asked 4 the music to be turned up to try and at least create some atmostpher we were very disappointed putba real dampner on our night. The meals were nice but a starter that was suposed serve 2 people sharing was very sparce but very overpriced we ended up finishing our meal and returning to room at 9pm not the night we planned at all. We did however go down for breakfast next morning expecting the same but were pleasantly suprised as breakfast was amazing with wonderful views of the river very idilic. Could not help but wonder where these people had eaten night before. Gorgeous place evening meal let our stay down was like walking into a cold community centre instead of a lovley cosy resturant which it could hve been. The resurant should hve been all set up well before 7.30pm and i believe if we had not asked to eat in there the lights woukd have remained off. Such a shame.....

This hotel is in a beautiful setting but needs refurbishment in both the bedroom and public areas. Sadly the restaurant menu seems to be the beyond the capability of the kitchen staff who only seem able to cope with the 'simple' bar menu. The breakfasts were not good either. The service was generally poor and even off-hand at times. Maybe we picked a bad week?

food was really good, starters huge, they could cut them down a little so u can enjoy more courses Lovely view from bedroom of river.. Bedding and towel clean, but disappointed to see fingermarks all over patio windows in bedroom, bath had been badly repaired didn't look good, and no anti slip on bath or available to put in bath. Also at breakfast pastries and fruit not covered and flies all about. .Decoration in restaurant in need of update as was most of bar area. Staff very nice

Too many issues not to be disappointed. We're not normally excessively critical and do accept that there will be some mistakes but the basics are missing from this hotel. We ordered from the grazing menu when we arrived and had to chase up the olives. We paid extra and booked the bridal suite, ran the luxurious large bath and got a knock at the door to empty it as there was a leak. Unfortunate but one of the reasons we booked the bridal suite. On top of this the towel was shaped in a swan but unfortunately there was only one of them and we had to ask for a towel for myself. Got dressed expecting to dine in the restaurant but was told it would have no atmosphere as we would be the only one in there so ended up sat in the bar, along with a couple of lads in their work gear. Some of the tables aren't ideal for eating off. My wife returned the belly pork as it was way too tough, she's still waiting for some feedback. We were woken up at 06:10 with music from downstairs and contemplated leaving but decided to go to breakfast. My wife's bacon was only cooked on one side and my bacon could hardly be cut with a knife and the black pudding was stone cold. We gave our feedback at reception on leaving and was given a reduction in the price which was basically the extra we paid for the bridal suite but nothing for the food. We were told the manager would be in touch but we're still waiting for the phone call. I couldn't recommend this hotel due to our experiences and feel that describing it as a boutique hotel falls way short when comparing it to other places that we've stayed.

Ordered steak cooked rare on 1st night but when it arrived it was grey all through and tasted terrible - didn't look like it had seen the grill at all, and just been warmed through. Although we like crunchy vegetables the carrots were hard and had bad bits in them. We raised the matter with the staff who said sorry but didn't do anything about it. We asked if they had spoken to the chef and they said yes, but still nothing done. Also in our room there was a dud bulb in bedside lamp, no plug for the sink, and the shower was just a trickle so not usable. We reported this to reception before going out next morning. He asked if we wanted to move to another room, but we said we would be OK if they just sorted these things out. He wrote everything down and said they would deal with, but when we got back in the evening nothing had been done. The next day we went out early and returned about 2.30pm to find the room service hadn't been in yet. They didn't arrive until approx 3.15 pm. All in all a very disappointing experience and wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone. My score for the food is based on the fact that the breakfasts were all ok but as already said, the evening meal was the worst ever.

Really nice one night stay. Paid a bit extra for the bridal suite but it was well worth it, the room was huge and very nice throughout. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Our starter (scallops) was a bit disappointing being very small, but the main courses were very good and breakfast the next day was also very good and plentiful. Would definitely recommend and use again.

location of hotel is wonderful, We had a family room overlooking the river Tees. Lovely walks and places of interest. Food was really first class - ( evening meal and breakfast ). We would definitely stay again, thanks to all the staff !!

Spent Valentines night here on a very good value deal. Really loved the place, lovely spot, great staff and the food was excellent. The bar is cosy with a roaring fire and whilst the room was lovely it was very cold

Visited yesterday and i made a mistake on our booking. Not only did the staff help me sort it out they went out of their way to make our stay special. The room was out of this world, food amazing but the staff are what made it perfect. Thank you as well for my lovely birthday pudding!!!
